Match prediction 2 of 18 of our Summer Internationals 2023 betting series.
Steven's prediction accuracy 2023: ✔️ 94.12%.
Week two of the rejigged Summer Internationals pits New Zealand v Australia on Saturday, the 5th of August at 'The Glasshouse' (Forsyth Barr Stadium) in Dunedin, New Zealand. Old rivalry should flare, resulting in a bruising encounter between two nations and bragging rights to be claimed - even if debates over the origins of flat whites and pavlova dessert will still rage on. Kick-off will be at 2.35 p.m. local time, which will mean an early start for rugby fans in Ireland of 3.35 a.m. if they want to catch the game.
The man officiating in the match will be Karl Dickson from England. Dickenson is an ex-rugby player for Bedford Blues and Harlequins. He has been the man that calls the shots for international competitions such as the Six Nations Championship, and he will be making his Rugby World Cup refereeing debut later in the year.
There is a long history of rugby union between New Zealand and Australia, totalling 175 matches. In that time, the All Blacks have dominated 122 whilst the Wallabies have won 45 and there have been eight draws. Can the Kiwis claim another cool victory? Find out my thoughts as I delve into my New Zealand v Australia prediction.

🔍 New Zealand v Australia Match Winner Prediction
I believe the change of Head Coach so close to the start of the Rugby World Cup will have a detrimental effect on Australia, even in this warm-up test. Furthermore, Eddie Jones is a fiery character who believes only his way of playing rugby is the right way. This can be fine if you can get the players to believe in you and your system, but the pressure is on for Jones, and I think he would need more time to transfer his mindset to the player base. In comparison, the All Blacks are a much more settled team, and their recent domination of teams like the current World Cup champions, the Springboks shows that they could be on for another big W.
As said, I still think this will be a bruising encounter and that there will be plenty of entertainment for rugby fans, but New Zealand will most likely come out on top. I can see the All Blacks slamming a 23-point difference on the scoreboard come the end of play.
My New Zealand v Australia match winner prediction: New Zealand to win!
✔️ New Zealand v Australia Betting Tips
1️⃣ Match Winner: New Zealand to Win
I know that Australia have lost some of the sparkle from their green and gold glory days, but odds of 1.02 at BoyleSports, at best, seem far too short to bother considering unless you are a particularly big fan of the All Blacks. Personally, this bet isn't worth it for me, but it's up to you.
2️⃣ Handicap Winner: New Zealand to Win (-18.5)
I think this is where things get a lot more interesting. If you, like me, feel the match winner odds are not competitively short, you could opt for the handicap odds of 1.44 at Betway for New Zealand to win by 18.5 points. As I think the All Blacks are going to knock up 23 points difference over the Wallabies, you could see this as a bet worth consideration. Remember, however, that longer odds mean extra risk, so gamble responsibly!
3️⃣ Both Halves: New Zealand to Win Both Halves
The only proper both-halves bet is from TonyBet Sports at odds of 1.09. Given that this bet wouldn't even return 10% winnings on top of your stake back for the risk of the Wallabies ruining it with any slight score advantage at the end of the first half, I don't see the point. If this is the sort of bet you like, however, feel free to do as you please. Just remember to gamble wisely.
