german-masters-snooker-betting-guide-main-banner

As ranking snooker tournaments go, the German Masters is one of the most coveted and rewarding on the international calendar.

It also has a relatively interesting history, having started out life as the German Open before becoming a non-ranking tournament in 1998. It then enjoyed a 13-year hiatus, returning as a ranking event in 2011 and pitting the 32 qualifying players against one another over the course of five challenging days.

But who are the current favourites to lift the 2023 iteration, and what are the best betting markets associated with the German Masters? All will be revealed in this snooker betting guide!

🎱 German Masters Snooker Betting Markets

In addition to outright wagering on the German Masters, our listed sportsbooks also offer access to a diverse range of alternative betting markets.

We’ve outlined some of the most popular options below, so that you can make informed decisions and leverage your bankroll to good effect!

1️⃣ Accumulator Betting

We’ll start with accumulator betting, which is particularly viable during the early stages of the German Masters and the opening round of 32.

During this round, 32 players compete against one another in an open draw. The open nature of the event and its structure means that you may be able to identify several relative mismatches during the round of 32, such as Judd Trump matched against world number 75 Gao Yang and Kyren Wilson pitted against 40th-ranked Jimmy Robertson in the 2022 draw.

By selecting including four or more such selections in a single wager, you’ll be able to multiply relatively short odds together to create a more inviting price.

"What’s more, you can do this without overly compromising your chances of winning, creating optimal returns for your hard-earned stake money"

2️⃣ Over/Under Betting

There are several iterations of over/under betting in the German Masters, with the most popular seeing punters wager on the projected winning margin in a particular match.

This is especially popular during the final, which is a best-of-19 frames encounter. For example, you could wager on one player to win by a margin of 3.5 frames or more in this type of match, meaning that your selection will have to prevail by four frames for the bet to come in.

When betting on the earlier, best-of-11 frame matches in the semi-finals, you could also wager that the total amount of frames played will be under 8.5. So, if one player wins such a contest by the margin of 6-2, your wager will be successful and you’ll bank a return.

"The main advantage of this wager type is that you can bet on winning margins and the duration of particular matches without backing an actual winner, increasing your chances of success over time"

3️⃣ The Winner of the Next Frame

As we’ve already touched on, in-play and micro wagering is becoming increasingly dominant in snooker and German Masters betting.

One of the most popular in-play German Masters bets requires you to back the winner of the next frame, which will usually carry relatively short odds and represents a straightforward even money wager.

Popular among both casual and serious punters, next frame betting is ideal for people who like to wager while they watch matches and are able to follow even subtle shifts in momentum over time.

Certainly, when players like Judd Trump and Kyren Wilson get on a roll, they’re incredibly difficult to stop, and can often be backed to reel off several frames in succession when they’re confident and in form.

✅ German Masters Snooker Betting Tips

betvictor-german-masters-snooker-betting-banner

While recognising and understanding these betting markets is one thing, it’s quite another to leverage them successfully and make the most of your bankroll.

Fortunately, our expert team here at Betinireland have complied some helpful German Masters betting tips in time for the event, so you can hopefully make more informed and profitable decisions!

Be Careful and Selective When Build Accumulator Bets

As we’ve already said, accumulator (or combination) betting is incredibly popular during the early stages of the German Masters, but there are a couple of considerations when building this type of wager.

Firstly, you should strive to limit your acca bet to between four and six selections, especially if you want to strike the ideal balance between optimising your probability of winning and maximising potential returns.

Similarly, you’ll have to be selective when choosing individual matches for your acca bet, as it’s important to prioritise short-price and heavy favourites to ensure that every outcome is achieved, and your combination wager is successful.

📜 Don’t Overlook Past Performances at the German Masters

While form is a key consideration when betting on snooker matches and outright markets, they also say that class is permanent and a more important factor. This is certainly true at ranking events, for which the best players often reserve their very best form and focus.

On a similar note, this historical performance of players is also crucial at events like the German Masters. In this case, we see that current world number two Judd Trump had won two successive iterations of the tournament in 2020 and 2021, while he was also the losing finalist in the 2013/14 season.

"Welsh veteran Mark Williams is the only other player to win two German Masters titles (in 2011 and 2018), so Trump and the ‘Welsh Potting Machine’ may be worth additional consideration when punters place their bets in 2023"

🛑 Don’t Wager More Than You Can Afford to Lose on In-Play Betting

Typically, in-play bets offer small but incremental returns, meaning that punters tend not to wager much on individual wagers.

However, the scope for micro betting during the German Masters and its various matches is huge, creating a scenario where it’s possible to wager deceptively large amounts within a relatively short period of time.

With this in mind, it’s crucial that you manage your bankroll carefully and utilise relevant deposit limits during each day, week, or month (depending on the frequency with which you place bets).

Most importantly, you’ll need to understand precisely how much you can afford to lose when gambling during any given time-frame, before applying this across all verticals and betting markets.

📋 The German Masters Snooker Format

The German Masters that we know and love today began as the German Open, with John Higgins winning the first iteration of this ranking event in Frankfurt in 1995.

The event was renamed the German Masters in 1998 and became a non-ranking invitational tournament before being canceled at the end of the season and going on a 13-year hiatus.

The event was revived as a ranking tournament in 2011, with the same format that is still in use today. More specifically, all main tour professionals were required to compete in a qualifying tournament between October 18th and 26th, 2021, with those who won two of these matches earning a spot in the prestigious main event.

This is an unusual and open format, and players like John Higgins and Ronnie O'Sullivan (who was thrashed by the unheralded Hossein Vafaei in his opening qualifying match) have already been eliminated before the main draw.

The German Masters qualifiers 2023 have taken place in November 2022. However, a competitive field remains in contention for the title, with the 16 round of 32 matches scheduled to take place on the first and second day of the tournament (February 1st, February 2nd). The last 16 games will take place as part of a hectic schedule on the second and the third day (February 2nd, February 3rd), with the quarter and semi-finals scheduled on the third and fourth day (February 3rd, February 4th). The final will be played on the fifth day of the competition – February 5th.

📆 German Masters Snooker Tournament Schedule (2023)

The prospective dates for the 2023 German Masters tournament are from the 1st - 5th of February at the Tempodrom, Berlin. Tickets are available for fans wishing to attend the event in person.

The official list of participants, and subsequently the fixtures, are not available at this moment, however, we will continue to update this page when the information has been released.

🔝 German Masters Snooker Top Players

While we have yet to see the ante-post outright odds for the 2023 German Masters, we have reviewed the full list of competing players, their place in the draw and opening round matches.

So, here is a brief breakdown of the highest-ranked players that appeared in the last tournament, and a quick look at their chances of prevailing in 2023.

1️⃣ Jack Lisowski

He is an English snooker player who became a professional after he finished in first place in the PIOS ranking 2009/2010. He is a lefty who is known for his attacking style of play. In 2019, he made his debut in the Masters, managed to reach the final in the China Open, and was a runner-up in the Scottish Open. Lisowski played at the final of the World Grand Prix in 2020 and once again qualified for the German Masters in 2021. Last year, he reached the World Championship’s quarter-finals. Without any doubt, he is among the strongest players in the German Masters 2023.

2️⃣ Kyren Wilson

Kyren Wilson is among the four world’s top 26 players that are featuring the German Masters. He is a professional English snooker player that appears to be a five-time ranking event winner. He has finished second in two of the three Triple Crown events, reaching the finals of the 2018 Masters and the 2020 World Snooker Championship. In 2021, he won the Championship League for the second time in only one season and played in the World Championship’s semi-finals. When he ended up winning his fifth ranking title at the European Masters, he joined only 20 other players in snooker history to have won five or more.

3️⃣ Neil Robertson

If the 2023 German Masters is to be decided by form, there is no doubt that the Australian and world number four Neil Robertson will be the man to beat. Having won the English Open in November and reached the final of the prestigious 2021 World Grand Prix the following month, Robertson then stormed to his second Masters’ title at the beginning of January 2022. This form, allied with Robertson’s flamboyant style and prolific break-building skills, means that all eyes will be on him during the tournament in 2023.

🌟 German Masters Snooker Previous Winners

While Trump and Mark Williams are the only two players to have won the German Masters in its existing format, Ronnie Sullivan prevailed in the 2012 final and the 1996 German Open against Canadian Alain Robidoux. Scot John Higgins also won two German Open crowns in three years between 1995 and 1997, although he has failed to reach a final since.

But exactly which players have lifted the coveted German Masters title since its return to the tour in 2011? Here’s a look back at the tournament’s most recent finals.

Year Winner (Nationality) Runner-up (Nationality) Score
2011 Mark Williams (Wal) Mark Selby (Eng)9-7
