📈 Gaelic Football Betting Markets

I found plenty of betting markets to choose from at the top Gaelic football betting sites. Whilst some of the markets are common across most of the sportsbooks, some sites offer some quite complex and unique betting lines. Usually, these specials are available for major competitions such as the All-Ireland Football, or big matches.

Match Betting

When it comes to GAA, whether it be Gaelic Football, the most popular market to be on is match winner. This is a popular market for games that are considered to be tight as the odds will be favourable. When it comes to the provincial championships, particularly the Leinster and Munster football championships they are often mismatched games where match betting would not be favourable due to one of the teams being overwhelming favourites. This is seen when Kerry or Dublin play provincial matches in the Munster and Leinster championships respectively.

Outright

Outright betting is available for all GAA inter-county competitions both in football. Odds for every county in each competition will be available pre-tournament and will change as the competitions develop with the All Ireland championships the most popular outright betting market. In football the favourites are often Dublin and Kerry.

Total Points: Over/Under

Another popular market in GAA betting is total points. Punters can choose if there will be over or under a certain amount of points. The better quality teams involved the more the over/under points there will be in the market. For example in the All Ireland football semi-final between Limerick and Cork, the over/under points tally was 56.5 points, with the end result being over 56.5 points.

Scorer Bets

When it comes to both Gaelic football matches, you can often bet on a certain player from either team scoring a goal, or even over a certain amount of points. You can also bet on them to score from play in each half. The country's best players are usually the ones most available in these markets, such as David Clifford and Rian O’Neill in football and Shane O’Donnell and Patrick Horgan in hurling.

Player of the Year

This is a self explanatory market and it has become more popular in recent years. In this market you pick which hurler or footballer or both, that you believe will be the player of the year at the end of the GAA season.

📌 Gaelic Football Betting Strategy

There are many different strategies that you can use when betting on GAA. Below, I will point out 3 potential strategies you can use for when you bet on GAA.

Handicap Betting

A good strategy to use when betting on either Gaelic football is to utilise the handicap markets. As mentioned earlier in the provincial championships, particularly in Dublin and Kerry’s matches in the Leinster and Munster championships, we get quite a few mismatch encounters that result in comfortable wins for Dublin and Kerry. An example of this was when Dublin took on my native Offaly in the Leinster Quarter final. Dublin were low odds of 1.05 to win this one, and they ran out 20 point victors. Their handicap on this day by bookmakers was -19 and came in at odds of 1.90. The handicap betting was close but did provide punters with a better return than if they just bet on Dublin to win outright.

Over/Under Points

This would be a strategy that I would use as we reach the latter stages of an All Ireland football championship, and the match is too close to call. If you’re struggling to decide who will be the potential victor in a match then I would suggest the strategy of betting on over or under the amount of points in a game. This is a strategy I used when betting on the Limerick vs Cork game and using statistics from points scored by both teams in the championship to that point I was able to successfully predict that there would be over 56.5 points.

Utilise Draw No Bets

I believe this is a good strategy to use because we have seen on quite a few occasions in recent years in both the football championships, especially when it comes to the knockout stages, that games end in a draw and then either go to extra-time or a replay. If you utilise a draw no bet strategy you often get similar odds on picking a team to win but then are covered if the game ends in a draw, and you get your stake back.

⚽ Gaelic Football Tournaments to Bet On

When it comes to Gaelic football tournaments to bet on, look no further than the All Ireland football championship. As well as that you have the 4 provincial championships which are always an intriguing prospect.

Leinster Championship

The Leinster SFC is one of four provincial championships in Gaelic football and is contested annually as 11 counties in the province bid to win the coveted Delaney Cup. Dublin, the most successful Gaelic football team this century, are Leinster's dominant force, winning all but one of the Leinster crowns from 2004-2024. Our Leinster Championship homepage has an in-depth look at the competition.

Munster Championship

The Munster Football Championship is an intriguing competition that has often been between two footballing powerhouses Kerry and Cork, although in the past decade Kerry have shown utter dominance over their rivals and claimed a 85th Munster Championship in 2024 defeating Cork in the semi finals and Clare in the final. Kerry have won all but one Munster Championships since 2013, with Tipperary shockingly claiming the 2020 title defeating Cork in the final.

All-Ireland Football Championship

The All Ireland Football Championship is the pinnacle of Gaelic football. The goal for every team at the beginning of the year is to claim football immortality by lifting the coveted Sam Maguire cup. Kerry are the most successful team in All Ireland history winning 38 with Dublin in second on 31. Dublin are the only team to win 6 All Ireland titles in a row, achieving this from 2015-2020.

Connacht Championship

The Connacht Football Championship is yet another provincial championship that has been secluded in who wins it. Galway and Mayo are the dominant forces in Connacht throughout history, with Roscommon showing they have the quality to put it up to them, especially in recent years. A fascinating part of the Connacht championship is that overseas teams, London and New York compete, although neither side have ever won it. London reached the final in 2013, but New york are yet to.

Ulster Football

The Ulster Football Championship is widely considered to be the most competitive of all the provincial championships, with 9 teams competing in it who most of the time have a realistic chance of being successful in the championship. Cavan are the most successful Ulster team with 40 titles, although they have only won 1 this century, in 2020.

🏁 Gaelic Football History & Evolution

Gaelic football commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or football, is an Irish team sport. A form of football, it is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goal (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goal and over a crossbar 2.5 metres (8 ft 2 in) above the ground (1 point).

Gaelic football is one of four sports (collectively referred to as the Gaelic games) controlled by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), the largest sporting organisation in Ireland. Along with hurling and camogie, Gaelic football is one of the few remaining strictly amateur sports in the world. Gaelic football and the GAA was formed in 1884 with rules widely distributed in 1887. The rules were first drawn up by Maurice Davin in 1884 and published in the United Ireland magazine on February 7th 1887. The games were invented as a way to promote Irishness as Ireland was under British rule at the time.

Gaelic football and GAA has become immensely popular with the All Ireland finals being viewed in the millions on tv both in Ireland and abroad and Croke Park hosting full capacity crowds of 82,300 for the big games. The GAA has stayed to it’s roots and still remains an amateur sport.
