They will face plenty of competition especially from tournament favourites France.

🏆 Six Nations Betting Odds - Outright Winner (2025)
The 2025 Six Nations will run from January 31st 2025, until the final round of matches on March 15th, 2025. In the table below I have listed the latest betting odds for the main challengers for the title.
N.B. Six Nations odds are subject to change, so I will keep them updated for you.
France
France are marginal favourites with bookies to win the 2025 Six Nations, after an underwhelming 2024 campaign. The French have only one Six Nations title to their name over the last 15 years, but with the returning Antoine Dupont aided by the likes of Gregory Alldritt, Louis Bielle-Biarrey and Thomas Ramos, the French public must be confident another one can be added in 2025.

Ireland
Ireland enter the Six Nations Championship bidding to make history as the first team to win the title three years in a row. They will have to do it without the services of their Head Coach Andy Farrell, as he takes a sabbatical from coaching Ireland to prepare the Lions tour to Australia during the summer of 2025. Simon Easterby steps into an interim Head Coach role for the event, and Irish fans will hope that this does not disrupt their chances. Many questions have been asked of the Irish since the Autumn, but led by new captain Caelan Doris, and the likes of James Lowe and new star out half Sam Prendergast, Ireland will be confident of putting in a bold bid for their three-peat.

England
England have had a poor time of it since the Six Nations last year. The brilliant performance they put in at Twickenham to halt Ireland’s Grand Slam bid in 2024 was very much an outlier compared to the rest of their performances and results. Defeats to South Africa, Australia and New Zealand meant Japan were the only team England beat in their seven matches after the Six Nations event. Selection dilemmas await Steve Borthwick ahead of the 2025 Championship, such as can he fit both Marcus and Fin Smith into his starting 15, as well as who he should play in the back row moving forward in the Championship.

Scotland
Scotland have never finished higher than third in a Six Nations Championship, so, Gregor Townsend and his players will hope that 2025 is the year they can break that hoodoo. An impressive Autumn has led to some confidence about the Scottish team’s chances of really making an impact in this year’s tournament. As well as never finishing above third place the Scots will also hope to end their barren run against Ireland on Game Day 2. The Scots have not beaten the Irish in any competition since the 2017 Six Nations, the longest current losing run they have against any of their Six Nations rivals. Team captain Sione Tuipuloto’s injury is a big loss, but in his absence Finn Russell and Rory Darge will lead the team.

Wales
Warren Gatland’s second spell in charge of Wales has not exactly gone to plan for him or the team so far. Wales are on a 12-game losing streak heading into the Championship and Gatland is under severe pressure to end the losing run sooner rather than later. Despite their issues, Gatland will still be able to rely on quality performers like captain Jac Morgan, Dafydd Jenkins in the second row and will hope Liam Williams and Josh Adams can recapture some of their old form. Their Game Day 2 fixture against Italy in Rome looks like being a pivotal fixture for the Welsh as they look to avoid a second successive Wooden Spoon.

Italy
Gonzalo Quesada’s Italy enjoyed their best Six Nations performance in 2024. They beat Scotland and Wales as well as drawing with France, coming mighty close to beating the French but for a missed goal attempt. They struggled in the Autumn only beating Georgia but will once again look to the likes of captain Michele Lamaro, Toulouse Full Back Ange Capuozzo and 2024 Six Nations Player of the Tournament Tommaso Menoncello to help them build on what they achieved in the 2024 Championship.

🪄 Six Nations Betting Tips
At this stage of my 2025 Six Nations betting guide, I am going to give you some Six Nations betting tips ahead of the big tournament, which will hopefully prove useful to you as on your betting journey throughout the Championship.
- Tip 1: Ireland to Win the Six Nations
Ireland may have had many questions to answer after a somewhat underwhelming Autumn International Series, but I think they can put it right and achieve an historic three in a row of Six Nations Championships. No nation has done the three-peat of Six Nations, and it would be a fitting achievement for an Irish side that has been the best Northern Hemisphere side over recent years, to do it.
Their World Cup failures may have continued in the 2023 World Cup in France, but in the Six Nations they have proven they can beat anyone. England and France go to Dublin in 2025 and that is always looked at as a positive for Ireland’s chances. A Grand Slam might be a reach too far, but the Championship is certainly possible for Ireland. To back Ireland to do the three-peat you can get a price of 2.36 with TonyBet on that happening.
- Tip 2: Antoine Dupont to be Player of the Championship
The Toulouse star took a year out from the 15-a-side game in 2024 to chase a Gold Medal for France at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He achieved that feat and was named the 2024 Sevens Player of the Year for his exploits in that discipline. Without him, the French did not look the same outfit, as they seemed to suffer from a World Cup hangover during the 2024 Championship.
It also more than likely had a lot to do with the fact that Dupont was unavailable, so to have him back in 2025 is huge for the French as they chase a first Championship since 2022. Dupont is such a difference maker for France that if Les Bleus can manage to have success this year, their generational No 9 is going to play a leading role in it. To back Dupont to be the Player of the Championship you can get a price of 2.25 with BoyleSports.

🛍️ Six Nations Betting Markets
I am now going to take you through the various markets that you will find when it comes to placing bets on big rugby events such as the 6 Nations.
Outright Winner
With this market, what you are doing is placing a bet on the team that you think will go on and win the competition. The earlier you place your wager, the better the odds will be since they will decrease with each passing match.
Match Winner
With this type of bet, you are putting your money on the team that you think will go on and win a particular match. In rugby, you do have the option of betting on a draw, but bear in mind that draws are not that common in this sport.
Handicap Betting
Sometimes, there will be such a discrepancy in class between two teams that it really is not worth betting on either to win. The odds for the favourites will be too low, meaning that you will need to put down a big stake for any decent potential return. On the other hand, if you bet on the underdog, your chances of winning will be pretty slim. In such a case, you can give a team a points disadvantage or advantage in order to level the playing field.
Half-Time/Full-Time Result
If you want to bet on the result of a match but are looking for some higher potential odds, then you could opt for the half-time/full-time market. With such a bet type, what you need to try and do is predict the team that will be winning at the half-time interval and the team that will be winning when the referee blows the final whistle.
First Tryscorer
As you can tell from the name of this market, what you are tasked with doing is trying to predict the player that will go on to score the first try. It does not matter if their team does not win the game, so long as the first try is scored by them. There is also the option of betting on no tryscorer, but this is a rare feat.
Total Points Over/Under
You can also bet on the number of points that will be scored. Your bookmaker will give you a figure, such as 35.5, and then you need to decide whether the final total points count will be Over or Under this figure.

📜 History of the Six Nations
The first Six Nations took place in 1883, which was 12 years after Scotland and England played the first ever international Rugby Union match. This championship included just England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland, which, at the time, was part of the UK. It was called the Home Nations, and it was won by England.
In 1910, France officially joined the competition - I say officially because they had competed in four previous tournaments. Thus, the tournament changed its name to the Five Nations. They won their first title in 1959 and then dominated in the 60s and 70s. In the year 2000, the tournament became known as the 6 Nations when Italy were added to the mix. The Italians have not come close to winning the title, and have finished at the bottom of the table no fewer than 18 times.
🏉 Six Nations Competition Format
The 6 Nations has a Round Robin format, meaning that each team will play everyone once, with home advantage alternating each year. The team that finishes with the most points will claim the title. In 2017, a bonus point system was introduced. Nowadays, 2 points are awarded for a win, 1 for a draw, and 0 points for a defeat - if a team scores four tries in a match, they get a bonus point, while a team that loses by no more than seven points will receive a losing bonus point. A team that wins all five games will be granted an additional three points to ensure that they cannot lose.
🎆 Past Six Nations Winners
When you are doing a spot of outright betting, it is always a wise move to check out previous winners as winning is something that breeds success. Teams that have won in the recent past will know what it takes to win once more. Below you can find the winners of the 6 Nations from 2016 onwards.
Out of the last eight tournaments, England and Ireland have had the most success as they have each won the title three times. Overall, England are the most successful team in the history of this tournament, securing a total of 29 titles. Wales are in second place with 28 titles, while France have 18.
