Another week, another bout of rugby action for the Principality Stadium as we see Wales vs Argentina. Given how the last few weeks of the Autumn Nations Series 2022 have played out, I think this is going to be a big result for both sets of fans. Who will ultimately claim bragging rights, though? I explain my thoughts and give a little insight into some potential ideas for rugby betting.

📜 History of Wales vs Argentina
There have been a total of 20 Wales vs Argentina tests to date. I have broken down who has claimed the crown the most often below.
Teams | Totals |
---|---|
Wales Wins | 13 |
Argentina Wins | 6 |
Draws | 1 |
With more than two-thirds of the matches going Wales' way, you would think that the Welsh are in a good position to grab another victory. Will we get a different picture if we look at more recent fixtures, though?
Match | Date | Venue | Score | Winner |
---|---|---|---|---|
Wales vs Argentina | 12th November 2016 | Millennium Stadium, Cardiff | 24–20 | Wales |
Argentina vs Wales | 9th June 2018 | Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario, San Juan | 10–23 | Wales |
Argentina vs Wales | 16th June 2018 | Estadio Centenario, Resistencia | 12–30 | Wales |
Wales vs Argentina | 10th July 2021 | Millennium Stadium, Cardiff | 20–20 | Draw |
Wales vs Argentina | 17th July 2021 | Millennium Stadium, Cardiff | 11-33 | Argentina |
The last five matches may still point to a win for Wales on percentage, given that they still have the lion's shares of victories, but with the last two tests, the tide seems to have shifted. Argentina grabbed the ultimate match in their 2021 series, leaving Welsh fans scratching their heads about whether this may be the case again. Whilst the bigger picture of history may point to a win for Wales, I think the smaller picture hints at disappointed fans in red at the 80-minute whistle.
🌏 Comparison of World Rankings Rugby Union
Looking at the rugby world rankings are a terrific way to help predict a match, as they help give data-backed insight into how teams may perform on the day. Let's see how the two teams stand compared to global competition.
New Rank | Shift | Country | Points |
---|---|---|---|
1 | 0 | Ireland | 90.63 |
2 | 0 | France | 89.41 |
3 | +1 | New Zealand | 88.64 |
4 | -1 | South Africa | 88.41 |
5 | 0 | England | 84.45 |
6 | +2 | Argentina | 83.01 |
7 | -1 | Australia | 82.08 |
8 | +1 | Scotland | 80.74 |
9 | -2 | Wales | 80.28 |
10 | 0 | Japan | 77.39 |
11 | +1 | Fiji | 74.84 |
12 | +2 | Italy | 74.71 |
13 | 0 | Georgia | 74.51 |
14 | -3 | Samoa | 74.33 |
15 | +1 | Tonga | 69.96 |
With Wales in ninth and Argentina in sixth, this is starting more and more to look like Argentina are going to spoil the party at the Principality.
✔️ Wales vs Argentina: Recent Form of the Teams
I believe the current form of both sides, based on the recent weeks of the 2022 Autumn Nations series, will reveal the most telling of clues of who is going to grab glory on the rugby pitch this Saturday.
🐉 Matches Recap: Wales Autumn Nations Series 2022 So Far
Wales have so far played only one game in the Autumn Nations - last week's Wales vs New Zealand test. Did the Welsh have something to sing about after full time? Not even close! The All Blacks were able to pick apart the Men in Red like tissue paper, delivering a decisive 23-55 clobbering, including eight tries, seven conversations, and a penalty. To say that Wales look in form after last week's dressing-down would be lunacy. Perhaps it will spark a fire in the belly of the Welsh dragon, but I don't have high hopes for that at this point.
🌞 Matches Recap: Argentina Autumn Nations Series 2022 So Far
On the other side, Argentina will be grinning from ear to ear after they despatched England last week. Los Pumas had already proved their underrated strength, having beaten the All Blacks previously in the year, but to beat England at Twickenham 29-30 only furthered their reputation on the world stage - the Argentinians are not to be trifled with. I believe the Welsh ought to learn from England Head Coach, Eddie Jones's mistake and make sure that they give Argentina the respect they deserve, going into this one.
🌦️ Weather Conditions at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff
If there is one thing that could give Wales the big advantage, it's the weather. All Wales rugby fans will be praying for rain, the murky pitch not favouring the travelling side's style of play. I imagine the roof will be left open on the Principality for this very purpose. It's a shame, then, that the forecast looks to be 16 degrees - sunny with light cloud. On that account, the Welsh will be hoping the weatherman is wrong.
🕵️ My Wales vs Argentina Prediction Winner
Wales will be looking for the big W from this match, and the fans will certainly be expecting their side to deliver. The problem for the Men in Red is that they seem to be lacking in squad depth and have a Head Coach that isn't gelling with the team. Wales will throw everything at this game, hoping to see a slither of a performance that may at least show hope for them as they build towards the Rugby World Cup. I think Argentina will have a lot to say on that matter, though. They are a more fluid entity than in the old days, able to play a free-flowing game whilst still battering opponents with their forwards' muscle. I think Los Pumas will grind down the Welsh and just about come away with a win by five points when the game dies a death.
💶 Wales vs Argentina Betting Tips
I believe Argentina to win at odds of 2.05 are pretty decent in themselves, offering just over double your stake in return if they win. You could try for a greater return with the handicap betting, but the odds are not that much longer considering the bigger risk. Another option to lengthen your odds is to consider an accumulator which combines some of the results from the other Autumn Nations Series matches from this Saturday: Ireland vs Fiji, Italy vs Australia, and England vs Japan. Whatever your preference, the key thing to remember is that you shouldn't bet the shirt off your back. Stranger things have happened at sea than Wales winning on home turf, so be responsible if you're betting on rugby this weekend.
