DirectionBet

DirectionBet is one of the top-rated Irish golf betting sites and is an excellent bookmaker for pre-tournament golf wagers. The site does not offer live streaming, but you can place pre-game and in-play bets for several golf tournaments. DirectionBet does not let you down with the odds and markets on offer for the most prestigious golf events. They offer a wide range of different markets for you to bet on, including popular golf markets like outright winner, leader after round 1, top 5 position, and top 20 position. With regards to the 2024 Open Championship, they are going in-depth into what markets you can play. They are offering top nationalities and even who will win out of multiple golfers from their selections.

If you decide to register with DirectionBet, you can claim a €100 match bonus, which you can use on any sport, including golf. Have a look at our comprehensive DirectionBet review to learn more.

20BET

20Bet might not be as popular as other Irish bookies, but it's one of the best betting sites for golf. The site understands just how popular golf is, so they a great welcome bonus you can use to bet on golf and other sports. Once you join 20Bet, you will receive a 100% match bonus of up to €100. What I like about this bonus is that it only requires a €10 minimum deposit to unlock it. Plus, the wagering requirement of 5x is quite low, which is one of the best I have seen in Ireland. They also offer several ongoing sports promotions to keep things interesting.

Want to learn more about this bookmaker? I recommend you check out our in-depth 20Bet review.

Sportaza

Sportaza is the best bookie to use if you are looking to place live bets on golf events. The site offers live streaming for a variety of sports, including golf, and you can place in-play bets while following the events live on the platform. Apart from live streaming and live betting options for golf, Sportaza offers several golf markets for a wide range of events like the upcoming Open Championship. It also offers early prices for some of the top golf events, including the Ryder Cup and the US Masters.

The site is offering a 100% welcome bonus of up to €100 for all new players which can unlocked with a €20 deposit. If you would like to find out more before you fully commit, read our comprehensive Sportaza review.

Betalright

While Betalright Sports only recently launched in 2024, the site is among the top golf betting sites in Ireland, featuring over 300 monthly golf events. When betting on golf, punters like to get the best out of the odds for each player. If you pick a player to bet on, the bookie will give you a chance to improve your odds by using their 'Boosted Odds' feature. For example, in the 2024 Open Championship, you can boost the odds on Irishman Rory Mcilroy to win at 3.00 with Betalright. When placing your bet, you will be able to accept the higher odds offered, considering you activated the 'Boosted Odds' feature.

New bettors can claim a 100% match bonus of up to €250 which can be used to bet on several sports. To learn more about this bookie, check out our Betalright review.

GoldenBet

Most Irish bookies offer a bet builder feature for punters, and GoldenBet is one such bookmaker. Their bet builder feature allows you to combine multiple bets within one golf event. While some sites limit the number of markets or have specific markets you can select from, I like that GoldenBet allows you to combine as many as ten markets. For example, I was able to combine an outright winner, top Irishman, top LIV golfer, and several other markets from the Open Championship using the bet builder tool.

If you decide to join GoldenBet Sports, you can claim a 100% bonus of up to €500. Find out more about this bookmaker in our Goldenbet review.

💸 Golf Betting Markets

golf-betting-logo golf-betting-logo

Golf is one of those sports with many different betting markets you can choose from. In this section of my golf betting guide, I shall take a look at some of the most popular markets for golf bettors and give examples of odds for these markets at this week's Open Championship.

Outright Winner

This is an uncomplicated bet where you put your money on the player you think will win the event. Due to the competitiveness of most big golf events, even the outright odds for the favourite will be quite high. A potential outright winner for the Open is Rory Mcilroy who is priced at 8.50 with DirectionBet.

Place Finishing: Top 5/10/20

This market is perfect if you believe a player will not win the tournament but they have the potential to have a high finish. You can bet on a player to finish in the top 20, top 10, or top 5 with odds being better, the higher you think the player will finish. For example, Irishman Shane Lowry is priced at 2.60 to finish in the top 20, 4.50 to finish in the top 10, and 8.50 to finish in the top 5, all with DirectionBet.

Hole-In-One Betting

Even if you are not a big fan of golf betting, I am pretty sure that you are aware of what a hole-in-one is. For those who do not, it is when the ball lands in the hole with the first shot from the tee. This is the equivalent of a hat trick in football, a 147 in snooker, or a nine-dart finish in golf. The odds for a hole-in-one with DirectionBet is 1.55 because there is a field of 156 players.

Over/Under Props

In golf, there are not many markets that you can bet over or under in. One potential one for 2024 is the winning margin. In recent years, the Open Championship has been won comfortably. In 2023, Brian Harman won by 6 shots, while Shane Lowry also won by 6 shots in 2019. The odds of a winning margin of over 4 strokes with Sportaza Sport is 4.00.

Live Bets

If you are unsure before the tournament who you think will win, you can wait to see how the championship develops and maybe place a better wager after rounds 1, 2, or 3. The odds for players will change as the tournament develops, so there can be a chance to get one of the favourites at a larger price if they have ground to make up.

Make/Miss Cuts

In the Open Championship, there are 156 players competing and the cut after Friday will see the top 70 players and ties make it to the weekend. There is the possibility that over half the field will be gone for the weekend, so there is potential money to be made there. A player with experience and a major pedigree is Adam Scott. He is coming off a great week in Scotland and is priced at 1.34 to make the cut in the Open.

Nationality Props

With the majority of big golf events, you will have the option of betting on the player that you think will perform the best from a particular country. For instance, in the 2024 Open Championship, there are 6 Irish players and you if put your cash on Rory McIlroy to finish in the highest position out of the six, then all he has to do is finish in a better position than his compatriots to land you a profit. This is priced with GoldenBet at odds of 2.20.

Round Finish Position

You can also bet at the start of each day who you believe will be the leader after the round. The first-round leaders' odds will be better as everyone will start at the same score but as the tournament develops, players’ odds will reduce depending on how they are positioned on the leaderboard. For example, world number 1, Scottie Scheffler, is priced at 15.00 with DirectionBet to be leading after Round 1 of the Open Championship.

Favourite Bookmarker: BoyleSports

When it comes to betting on golf in Ireland, BoyleSports is my favourite bookie. They are not just one of the largest bookmakers in the world but also offer more than 30 betting markets for golf, a number very few bookies come close to. BoyleSports golf betting odds are among the best I have seen in Ireland, and I like that they offer early pay-outs if your selection is the sole leader at the end of round 3 in The Open. They also offer an odds boost specifically for golf markets and a special offer paying up to 12 places in The Open Championship. Read more about this bookie in this BoyleSports review.

What are the top tips for betting on golf?

The 2024 Open Championship is an intriguing prospect with loads of different markets. Here are 4 tips to keep in mind before wagering:

  • Colin Morikawa to Win - Odds 17.00: Morikawa has been in brilliant form in the majors this year with a 3rd place at the Masters, 4th place at the PGA Championship, and 14th place at the U.S Open. Is it time for him to claim his 3rd major and his 2nd Open Championship?
  • Ludvig Aberg as Top 5 - Odds 4.30: Aberg has been in great form and hopes to continue his meteoric rise in the game of golf. He had a strong showing at the Masters and the U.S. Open and does not look out of place at all even at his young age.
  • Top LIV Golfer - Tyrrell Hatton - Odds 5.40: The controversial LIV Golf is still very much a thing and while only a selection of them will compete in the Open, they all have the potential to have a strong showing. Tyrrell Hatton will be eager to have a strong showing as an Englishman in the British Open and he is in good form after winning LIV Golf Nashville a few weeks ago.
  • John Rahm to not make the cut - Odds 3.75: Since moving to LIV Golf, Jon Rahm has struggled to make his mark when he returned to play the majors. He finished T45 when he defended his Masters title, missed the cut at the PGA Championship, and withdrew from the U.S Open through injury. He could struggle again.
