Connacht Championship Format

The GAA Connacht Championship usually takes place in May, but it has been put back a number of months this year because of the pandemic. Overall, there are four provincial championships with the other three being the Ulster Championship, Munster Championship, and Leinster Championship.

This tournament is a straight knockout, meaning that once a team loses, they are out until next year. As we mentioned in the introduction, a team from London and a team from New York usually compete in this competition to make it seven teams, but they will not be allowed to take part this year because of the pandemic. As a result, there are five teams that will play in Connacht Football Championship this season.

There will be one quarter-final, with the other three teams going straight through to the semi-finals. A draw was done in April to see who would be playing who and in what round. The winner of the Connacht Championship goes into the quarter-finals of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, while the other teams go into the All-Ireland qualifiers.

However, because of the pandemic, there has been a change in the format and the team that goes on to win the Connacht Championship will enter the semi-final stage of the All-Ireland Championship. Here they will play against the team that wins the Leinster Championship.

Connacht Championship Odds

So, we have shown you what the dates and fixtures are for this year's competition, and there are bound to be a number of fascinating matches that Gaelic football fans across Ireland and the rest of the world can thoroughly enjoy. However, there is one way that you can improve the excitement levels drastically, and that is by doing some Connacht Championship GAA betting.

Gaelic football is not one of the most popular sports for people to place bets on, but any sportsbook that accepts Irish punters will provide Connacht Championship odds for their players to use. Thanks to how competitive the tournament is, the odds that you will find for each match are often very enticing.

Later in this review, we are going to provide you with some tips that will hopefully be very helpful when it comes to placing bets on the Connacht Championship. However, before we go and give you some useful tips, we are going to provide you with two tables that indicate the odds of winning that are being offered by top sportsbooks for each team participating in the tournament and the top scorer.

The latter is a really entertaining market to bet on as the betting odds are always attractive due to how hard it can be to get your bet right. After all, you are picking one player from an extensive list. Despite the trickiness of such wagers, we really do recommend that you give it a go because even if your chosen player does not go on to be the top scorer, you can still have plenty of fun cheering them on whenever they are playing.

Since we are still some time away from the commencement of this tournament, bookies are yet to give their odds for the teams as well as the top scorers. When they do so, we will update the following tables for you, so you know what kind of odds to expect when you are betting on these outcomes.

Connacht Championship Betting

Gaelic football is growing in popularity, even outside the Emerald Isle, and the top bookies are becoming increasingly more aware of this, which is why you can now find a good variety of Gaelic football betting markets. When it comes down to placing bets on the Connacht Championship, these are some of the most popular bet types that you can place your hard-earned money on.

Match winner: This type of bet is pretty simple as all you are tasked with doing is trying to guess the team that will go on to be victorious in the match. If you have a feeling that the game will end in a draw, you can place a bet on that if you wish. Since these are straight knockout games, you need to remember that the bet you place is only valid for normal time. If you put money on a team to win and they do so in extra time, you will not win your wager.

Handicap: This type of bet is quite similar to a match-winner wager, apart from the fact that there are some conditions attached to it. If you place a handicap wager, what you are doing is giving one of the participating teams in the match a challenge that they have to overcome in order for you to win your bet. For example, you could give a team a -4-point handicap to increase their odds, which means that they are going to have to win the game by at least five points.

First score: Betting on the player that will score the first goal is no easy task, but if you get your prediction correct then the profit margins can be pretty high thanks to the enticing odds on offer. You need to do your research with this type of bet because if you do not know anything about the teams that are competing, the only way you are going to win such a bet is if Lady Luck happens to smile upon you. There is also the option of betting on the side that you believe will score the first points, but we must highlight here that since the chances of winning are much higher, the odds are lower.

Connacht Football Tips

As the Connacht Championship draws closer, we will start providing you with some data-driven useful tips that we hope will help you make a profit when placing bets.

Free Bet Offers

So, we have taken a look at the format, fixtures and odds for the Connacht Championship, and the next thing we will move on to discuss is free bets. Betting on Gaelic football games is always very good fun, but it is always better when you can place bets on some Gaelic football games without putting your own money on the line.

Nowadays, bookies will offer new customers awesome free bet promotions in the hope of enticing them to open an account. However, like everything in life, all free bets have not been created equally, which means that you should do a bit of research before accepting one to make sure that you truly are getting the best deal available, The last thing you want to happen is that you open an account with a bookie so that you can start betting on Gaelic football games and then you realise that they have low odds and an average Welcome Bonus.

You will actually be happy to hear that you do not have to do research this time around as we have done that for you. The table below shows some of the best bonus offers you will find at sportsbooks at the moment. These bonuses can be used on whatever sports events you like, but if the Connacht Championship is on when you decide to register, we really recommend that you put some of the free bets on some matches from this competition.

N.B. When it comes to their bonuses, bookmakers change them all of the time as they have to stay ahead of their main competitors. This is great for sports betting fans as it means they get bigger and better bonuses to make use of, but it also means that the above bonuses might be inaccurate when you come to sign up on their websites. We do check every now and then and update as necessary, but we do not have the time to constantly do it.

Previews

Below we have provided you with some useful information regarding the Connacht Championship.

Mayo Will Look to Continue Their Dominance

When it comes down to Connacht Championship wins, Mayo sits at the top of the tree with 47 wins in their history. Out of the last ten competitions, Mayo has won the title six times - 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2020. Every time they have reached a final in the last ten years, they have gone on to win and lift the trophy. In their history, they have come in second place on 34 occasions, which goes to show just how often they manage to make it to the final. There are some who call this the Mayo Connacht Championship and although they say it tongue in cheek, there is a reason behind it.

Roscommon and Galway Will Have Something to Say About That

Roscommon won the title in 2017 and 2019, while Galway lifted the trophy in 2016 and 2018, so Mayo has not had it all their own way. While many sports betting fans will probably put their money on Mayo to lift the trophy for the 48th time, these two teams will be quietly confident about being able to cause an upset.

Cillian O'Connor Will be After More Points

If there is one player who knows how to score points, it is Cillian O'Connor. At the time of writing, he is the leading scorer in the history of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. Therefore, it will not come as much of a surprise to hear that Gaelic football betting fans usually put their money on him to be the top scorer whenever he plays. Despite the fact that he is the leading scorer in the All-Ireland Championship, he is yet to win it.

A Look Back at the Previous Year
