Roscommon and Galway will do battle at Hyde Park on Sunday May 10th at 16:15 for the right to be crowned the 2026 Connacht Football Championship champions. Galway struggled past Leitrim in their semi-final to make the final, while Roscommon put in a brilliant second-half performance to hammer Mayo in their last-four clash to set up this repeat of the 2022 Connacht final.
In this Roscommon v Galway preview, we will highlight some Roscommon v Galway betting tips. We will also highlight the latest Roscommon v Galway betting odds ahead of the match. On top of that, we will also provide our very own Roscommon v Galway prediction, so read in as we look forward to the 2026 Connacht Senior Football final.
🥇 Roscommon vs Galway
What a Connacht final we could potentially have on our hands on May 10th. Roscommon will go into the game full of confidence after their sublime win over Mayo, while Galway have some things to work on after their struggles to get over the line against Leitrim.
Roscommon made light work of the absence of Daire Cregg and the fact that they were outsiders heading to Castlebar to hand out a beating to Mayo very few teams have been able to do in recent years. They cruised through the second half to record a 2-25 – 1-18 win over their neighbours and book their first Connacht final appearance since 2022. Their hunger and ferocity around the middle third were exemplary, as was their attacking play, especially in the 2nd half. They had their struggles in the first half with Mayo getting a lot of attacking opportunities, but Mark Dowd and his coaching team were able to rectify that in the 2nd half. The pace and power which they displayed were a sight to behold for many, and Roscommon must now be taken seriously as we move towards the All-Ireland series.
Galway are back in another Connacht final, their 11th in a row, while they are bidding to win their 5th title in a row and join the Galway side of the late 1950s as the only side from the county to do so. They made hard work of their win over Leitrim, and even though they possess brilliant players such as Cillian McDaid, Dylan McHugh, Paul Conroy and Shane Walsh, it’s hard to gauge if they are going to be able to cope with what Roscommon are going to bring to the party on May 10th.
If Roscommon play like they did against Mayo, especially in that second half, it's hard to see how Galway will cope. Galway are a better side defensively than Mayo, but Roscommon really sent out a statement with that Mayo win, and we think they can do it again. Therefore, our Roscommon v Galway prediction is for a Roscommon win which will earn them their first Connacht title since 2019.

- Tip 1: Roscommon to win: They may be underdogs, but it’s hard not to be impressed by what Roscommon did in that semi-final win over Mayo. The pace and power they displayed as well as the ruthless efficiency in front of goal means it is going to take Galway’s best performance in some time to stop what now looks like a Roscommon juggernaut from claiming their first Connacht win in 7 years. We don’t think they can, and we fully expect Roscommon to be lifting the Nestor Cup on May 10th. To back Roscommon, you can currently get a price of 2.40 with Festivalplay on Mark Dowd’s men winning the 2026 Connacht Championship.
- Tip 2: Diarmuid Murtagh to score a goal anytime: Murtagh looks in flying form if his performance against Mayo is anything to go by. In the absence of fellow star forward Daire Cregg, Murtagh stepped up when his side needed him, scoring 1-10 to help his team book their place in the final. If Cregg returns to take some of the burden off Murtagh, we could be in for another virtuoso display from the forward, so keep an eye out for Murtagh in the goalscoring markets as we get nearer to the throw-in.
- Tip 3: Galway HT/Roscommon FT: To back a carbon copy of Roscommon’s semi-final, when Mayo led at the break before Roscommon took over, you can currently get a price of 5.50 with BoyleSports. The manner of the turnaround in this game will probably not be as pronounced as it was in the Mayo game, but we still think Roscommon can take over in the second half and seal the win over Galway.
🔮 Roscommon Squad Form
Roscommon looked sensational in that second-half demolition of Mayo and will surely be in a buoyant mood heading into a Connacht final on home soil. Diarmuid Murtagh was brilliant in that win over Mayo, hitting 1-10, while he was ably assisted by the likes of Colm Neary, Enda Smith and Ronan Daly. Like Galway, Roscommon have depth to their squad this year, with star forward Daire Cregg, who missed the Mayo game, ready to return from suspension, and the likes of Ruaidhri Fallon and Brian Stack ready to return after sitting out the semi-final.
🧨 Galway Squad Form
Galway struggled to get over the line against Leitrim, but the sight of Shane Walsh and Damien Comer in Galway jerseys once again must have excited Galway fans ahead of this Connacht final. The fact that Padraig Joyce was also able to spring the likes of Sean Kelly and Shane McGrath from his bench emphasises the strength in depth the Galway boss has in his ranks this season.
