Leitrim will host Mayo when the two counties clash in the first of the 2025 Connacht Football Championship Semi-Finals on April 19th at 16:30 GMT. For fans of both counties wondering what TV channel Leitrim v Mayo will be on, new streaming service GAA+ will be showing the match as part of their 40 live games during this year’s Championship.
Leitrim have had a rotten year thus far, and it is not expected to get any better when Mayo come to town looking to make another Connacht decider. In this preview to the match, we will look ahead to this year’s clash, giving you the latest odds, as well as providing you with our prediction.
🏆Leitrim v Mayo Prediction
Mayo kicked off their 2025 Connacht Championship with a 2-20 – 2-17 win over Sligo. In truth, it should have been a bigger winning margin for Kevin McStay’s team, but they got the job done. An easier match should await them in this Semi-Final clash with Leitrim, with Mayo fans expecting a big win when the sides clash on April 19th.
Leitrim have had a bad start to 2025, losing all their Division 3 League games, resulting in their relegation back to Division 4 for 2026. Steven Poacher has had a tumultuous season as manager also, with the decision to forfeit a League game against Fermanagh attracting flak for the county.
This will be Leitrim’s first Championship outing of the year and in all probability their last, but they will have the Tailteann Cup to prepare for after this match. This match should result in a comfortable victory for Mayo, and that is what we predict for the first of this year’s Connacht Semi-Finals.

✔️ Leitrim v Mayo Betting Tips
At this stage of our prediction, we will guide you through some Leitrim v Mayo betting tips. These tips may prove useful to those with free bet offers or those that just fancy a bet on the match on April 19th.
- Tip 1: Mayo to win:
Mayo may have let Sligo off the hook a few times in their first match of this year’s Connacht Championship, but it’s hard to see anything other than an easy Mayo win against Leitrim. Leitrim may make a fist of it at home but given the problems they have had this year; it really would be a shock to see Leitrim get within 15-20 points of a Mayo side looking to make an 83rd Connacht Final. If you agree, you can get a price of 1.01 on Mayo making another Connacht Final.
- Tip 2: Ryan O’ Donoghue to score a goal anytime:
Given the control Mayo should have on this match against a struggling Division 4 team in Leitrim, it could be a great chance for Mayo manager Kevin McStay to get some rest into key players, such as marquee forward Ryan O’ Donoghue. The Belmullet man might just be too key a player to rest however, as so much of Mayo’s good forward play goes through their top scorer. If he does play, expect him to add a considerable amount to his season’s tally in this match. He has already found the net against Sligo, so don’t be surprised if he does so again, if he plays.
- Tip 3: Mayo -20 Handicap betting:
The last time these two sides met in the Connacht Championship, Mayo won by a whooping 24 points, 5-20 – 0-11. A repeat of that kind of scoreline is more than likely on the cards if Mayo tighten up on their finishing a bit and keep the defensive lapses witnessed against Sligo to a minimum. Sligo have better forwards than Leitrim however, so it’s hard to see Leitrim worrying the Mayo backs enough to hinder them in any serious way. If you think that Mayo will beat the handicap, you can get a price of 1.91 on McStay’s team winning by more than 20 points.
📈 Leitrim Squad Form
Leitrim had an awful National League campaign, finishing bottom of Division 3 with 0 wins from their 7 games. That run is made worse by the fact that they failed to turn out a team for their Round 6 game against Fermanagh, citing a lack of available players to manager Steven Poacher. They also finished with a scoring difference of -99, the worst of any of the four Divisions.
⚽ Mayo Squad Form
Mayo turned around a slow start to their National League campaign which saw them lose their opening two games, before claiming 9 points from their remaining 5 matches. That meant they reached their 3rd League Final in 4 years, but a diminished performance allowed Kerry to emerge victorious on a scoreline of 1-18 -1-12.
Mayo then kicked off their 2025 Connacht championship with a 2-20 – 2-17 win over Sligo on April 6th. They always appeared in control of the game against Sligo but lapses in concentration meant they never pulled away from their Division 3 opponents, with Sligo managing to pull it back to a one score game by the end.
👕 Leitrim v Mayo Predicted Lineups
Below, we have put together a possible starting 15 for both Leitrim and Mayo ahead of the first of this year’s Connacht Semi-Finals. Given the gulf in class between the two teams, and the prospect of a Connacht Final against Galway or Roscommon on May 4th it could be an ideal opportunity for Mayo manager Kevin McStay to rotate his team and give a break to the likes of Aidan O’ Shea, Matthew Ruane and Ryan O’ Donoghue.
