Munster Championship Format

The Munster Football Championship often starts in May, but this year it has been delayed a few months due to the current pandemic issue. There are six counties in Munster, and all have a Gaelic football team that play in the Munster Senior Football Championship. Overall, there are four provincial championships, with the other three being Connacht, Leinster, and Ulster.

This is a straight knockout competition. A draw is done to see which teams will play against who, with four of the teams being drawn against each other in the quarter-finals, while the remaining two teams enter straight into the semi-finals. Tipperary were put straight into the semis due to the fact that they won the trophy in 2020, while Cork were also put through because they were runners-up in 2020.

The winner of the Munster Championship goes into the quarter-finals of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, while the rest of the teams go into the All-Ireland qualifiers. However, because of the current pandemic, there has been a change in the competition format and the team that wins the Munster Championship qualifies for the semi-finals of the All-Ireland Championship. Here they will play against the team that wins the Ulster Championship.

Munster Championship Betting

Gaelic football is gaining popularity even outside of the Emerald Isle, and this is something that bookies are certainly aware of. This is why you will now find a variety of betting markets for Gaelic football at sports betting sites, When it comes to Munster Championship betting, there are more than enough markets for you to bet on, and below we have taken a look at some of the popular ones you can place your money on.

Match winner: This type of bet is one of the simplest out there as what you are trying to do is predict the winning team. If you feel that the game will end in a draw, you have the option of betting on that too. Since these matches are knockouts, there is the possibility that it will go to extra-time if it is a draw. Any bet that you make will only be valid for the normal time of the match - if the team that you bet on to win goes on to win in extra time, you will not win your bet.

Handicap: A handicap wager is pretty similar to the above match winner bet, apart from a couple of quirks. If you place a handicap bet, you give one of the participating teams a challenge that they are going to have to overcome in order for you to win your bet. For example, you could give a team a -5-point handicap to give them better odds, which means that they then have to go on and win the match by at least 6 points.

First scorer: This is not an easy bet to get right, but if you happen to get your prediction right then you will be saying hello to a lovely bit of profit. If you do not know much about the teams that are playing each other, then the only chance you will have of winning is if Lady Luck is smiling down upon you. You can also make a bet on the team that you think will score the first points, but because you have a higher chance of winning the bet because you are not relying on one particular person to score first, you will find that the odds will be much lower.

Munster Championship Tips

When the GAA Munster Football Championship gets closer to starting, we will give you some tips that we hope will help you earn yourself a profit.

Free Bets Offers

So, we have taken the time to look at the fixtures, format, and odds for the Munster Championship, and the next thing we are going to look at is free bets. It is always entertaining to bet on Gaelic football games, but it is even better for you when you get to bet on Gaelic football without having to put any of your hard-earned money on the line.

Nowadays, bookmakers will offer potential new players free bets to try and entice them into opening an account. Free bets are great since they allow you to place wagers without risking your own money, but not all free bets are the same, which means that you need to do a bit of research to make sure that you are claiming the best offer possible when registering with a bookie. You do not want to be in a scenario where you sign up with a sportsbook in order to place bets on Gaelic football and then come to realise they have sub-standard odds and a poor Welcome Bonus.

You will actually be happy to hear that you do not have to do any research of your own in this case as we have taken the liberty to do it for you. In the following table, you can find what we feel are some of the best bookmaker deals on offer at the moment. You can obviously use these bonuses on any sporting event you like, but if the Munster Championship is on when/if you decide to open an account with the bookies below, we really do recommend you make a bet on one of the fixtures using the bonus money.

Unfortunately, we do not have the spare time to constantly check if bonuses have been updated. However, we do check every now and then, and if we will fix any discrepancies that we notice.

Previews

Below we have provided you with some useful information regarding the Munster Championship.

Kerry Will Be Looking to Win Their 82nd Title

When it comes to Munster Championship trophies, Kerry leads the way by a country mile thanks to their 81 titles. They have finished in the second position for 24 times, which just goes to show how well they perform in this competition. Over the last two decades, they have completely dominated this tournament. Since the year 2000, they have only failed to win the competition six times, and two of those times they finished as runner's up.

Tipperary Will Be Looking to Retain Their Title

Tipperary won the 2020 edition, which was the first time they had lifted the trophy since 1935. Before that, they had only made it to the final two times in the 21st century, which was back in 2002 and 2016. So, it is safe to say that they have not had a lot of success before the win in 2020. We can imagine that the bookmakers were very happy at the end of the 2020 Munster competition.

Conor Sweeney Will Be Looking for the Top Scorer Accolade Once Again

During the 2020 competition, Conor Sweeney, who plays for Tipperary, scored 21 points to finish at the top scorer by quite some distance. The closest to him was Mark Collins (Cork) and Cillian Fahy (Limerick), who both scored 8 points. Sweeney will fancy his chances of coming out on top once again, and if you are going to place a bet on a top scorer, then you will certainly not be doing yourself any harm if you bet on Sweeney.
