We have completed the pool stages of the 2023 Rugby World cup, and we now enter the 'do or die' knockout stages.

On Saturday the 14th of October, we have the first quarter-final at the Stade de Marseille of Wales v Argentina. Kick-off for the match is 4 p.m. IST. Having been privileged to have been in Marseille this week, I can say that there is a real electric atmosphere around the city, and I expect this to carry over to the game.

Jaco Peyper will be taking up refereeing duties for this game, with assistance from Karl Dickson and Andrea Piardi on the touchlines. The TMO will be another South African in the form of Marius Jonker.

Wales first played Argentina in 1968. Including this first outing, the two teams have met 21 times, Wales winning 14 to Argentina's 6. There has also been one draw. In their last match in November 2022, Wales won 20-13 at the Millennium Stadium. Will the Welsh manage to drum up another win in this crucial stage of the RWC 2023? Let's dig into my Wales v Argentina prediction.

🔍 Wales v Argentina Winner Prediction

Both teams will go into Saturday's match missing star players. Wales will miss Taulupe Faletau for the rest of the Rugby World Cup and Argentina will be without Pablo Matera after a significant hamstring injury.

If we look at how both teams did in the pool stage, Wales were able to win all four of their matches compared to Argentina's three. That data points to a Wales win.

The 16th man could help with a result in the favour of Wales, but as we saw against Japan, the Argentinians do not stop singing and shouting support for their side. The Welsh are known for their harmonic voices, but can they last the whole 80 minutes like Los Pumas do?

Lastly, whilst there is not much of a gap between the two nations, the world rankings does put Wales in seventh and Argentina in ninth, appearing to side with the former. For all of what that's worth, it seems the key indicators are predicting this match will be won by Wales. I don't disagree with those ideas. Even though the Welsh started the year awfully, here they are at the top of Pool C and ready to prove the Pumas growl as more of a whimper. I think they have updated their act and that they should be able to win this one by 20 points.

✔️ Wales v Argentina Betting Tips

1️⃣ Match Winner: Wales to Win

It's going to be a good game, but I don't see anything but a good win for Wales happening. In that line of thinking, I think I would be tempted to have a flutter on Wales to win at 1.57 at BoyleSports.

2️⃣ Handicap Winner: Wales to Win (-8.5)

I'm predicting a 20-point game, so if I'm anywhere near right - and only if - Wales to win (-8.5) at 2.40 at Betway should look like a good bet. Just remember, however, to gamble responsibly in case things don't go according to plan.
