The second game on Saturday, the 7th of October will be the Pool D match of England v Samoa at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. The first whistle will be at 4.45 p.m.

Taking up the helm will be Andrew Brace of IRFU fame, assisted by Niki Amashukeli and Chris Busby. Our TMO in the bunker will be Brian MacNeice.

The Red Rose has battled with the Samoans on eight previous occasions, with the history books celebrating English wins on all outings. England are also already top of their pool, so things may not be looking good for Samoa. Is there any chance the Pacific islanders can pull off the win, ninth time lucky? We will see with my England v Samoa prediction.

🔍 England v Samoa Winner Prediction

Based on what happened with England before the Rugby World Cup, you would have been forgiven for thinking that they did not stand a hope in hell during the pool stage. They were defeated in three out of four matches in that time and seemed lost in the wilderness under Steve Borthwick's management. Since the start of the competition, however, the team seemed to have turned around their act, albeit playing against teams not in the top tier of world rugby. Nevertheless, they were still convincing against Argentina and against Japan, winning 27-10 and 34-12 respectively, before handing out a hammer blow to opponents Chile in their third match, 71-0. Samoa, in contrast, have only managed to scrape one win from three against Chile in their first match, 43-10 before stalling against Argentina, 19-10 and against Japan, 28-22.

To say that England have yet to be at their best in the Rugby World Cup 2023 is an understatement, and I suspect they will likely play down to their opponents this round. They will want to enter the knock-out stages with another win and garner the confidence that an undefeated status brings with it, but I can see Samoa making the most of their big units and not being push-overs for England. I believe this will be a difficult, physical encounter if the English do not properly sort out their game management, but I can only see the end result bringing in waves of Swing Low, Sweet Chariot around the Stade Pierre-Mauroy from a 12-point difference in favour of the Red Rose. The real question that follows is whether the wheels of the chariot will fall off in the long run.

✔️ England v Samoa Betting Tips

1️⃣ Match Winner: England to Win

I am confident that England should come out of this game with a much-needed win, but do I think it is worth a bet? If the best option is England to win at 1.07 at Betway, it's going to be a pass from me.

2️⃣ Handicap Winner: Samoa to Win (+14.5)

I feel this will be a closer game of the weekend, and I am predicting only 12 points will divide the teams at the final whistle. On that basis, I would be confident having a go on Samoa to win (+14.5) at 2.80 at TonyBet Sports. Is that result guaranteed? Of course not! This is rugby after all and anything could happen. For that reason, be smart, remember to gamble responsibly, and only bet what you are willing potentially to lose.
