With only days to go before the start of the Rugby World Cup 2023, fans are gearing up for the opening match - France v New Zealand. The match will take place on Friday, the 8th of September and will kick off at 20.15 IST. As France are hosting the World Cup, I expect to see incredible scenes at the Stade de France for this Pool A game - especially as both teams are seen as favourites to win the group.
In terms of match officials, we will see the big guns of referees in full force, with South African Jaco Peyper taking charge and Karl Dickson and Christophe Ridley assisting. The TMO will be Tom Foley.
Les Bleus and the All Blacks have been playing each other for over a hundred years. To date, the All Blacks have come out on top, with 48 wins to 13 and one draw. This might, at first glance, look like New Zealand will dominate, but the All Blacks see France as their bogey team, as they have been stopped by them twice in Rugby World Cup campaigns - in 1999 and 2007 respectively. France and New Zealand are both strong favourites to win the Rugby World Cup, but Les Bleus have two key advantages. France will be the hosts for 2023, and the French always do well with the 16th man backing them. They have also come off the tail end of their Summer Internationals campaign with a decisive win against Australia compared to the All Black's shock drubbing from South Africa. For these reasons, despite the fact this will be an electric game in which New Zealand will put up a strong fight, I can see France grabbing glory by five points.

1️⃣ Match Winner: France to Win
I've established that I think France are going to be my winners for this one, but do I think France to win at 1.95 at LeoVegas Sports is a good bet? If Les Bleus do the business, you would get a return of just shy of twice your money, which would be a nice chunk of change. I would be tempted by this. Having said that, however, there are no guarantees in sports, so remember to gamble responsibly.
2️⃣ Handicap Winner: France to Win (-1.5)
The handicap options are low for what is expected to be a close game between France v New Zealand, with most bookmakers offering odds for a 1-point or 1.5-point handicap. There isn't a lot of movement in the odds between this market and that of the match winner, but you could still stretch your odds with France to win (-1.5) at 2.08 at LeoVegas Sports. Do I think that's worth it? Well, I would make the argument that it's a slightly greater return for not much extra risk - France would need only to win by two points or more for your bet to be successful - so I think it could be worth it. Again, however, just because I think France will manage this does not mean this will definitely be so. As such, think before you bet, and make sure you only gamble what you are willing, potentially, to lose.
