Match prediction 15 of 15 of our 2023 Six Nations betting series.
Prediction accuracy from rounds one to four: ✔️ 91.67%.
Here we are for the last match of the last round of the Six Nations 2023 - probably much to the delight of partners of rugby fans, considering normality will return next weekend. Ireland vs England will kick-off at 5 p.m. GMT on the 18th of March, and scenes at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin are expected to be electric for St Patrick's Day weekend. The Irish have taken on the English in a total of 139 tests since 1875, with history showing dominance from England at 80 wins to 51 - eight matches ending tied. With the Millennium Trophy at stake, along with the possibility for Ireland to secure their first Grand Slam title since 2018, this year's result may very well fly in the face of the history books - a triumphant step for the Men in Green as they continue their season as one of the favourites for the Rugby World Cup 2023. Before we get ahead of ourselves, however, let's first see how this crucial test will play out.
Jaco Peyper will be the referee for this one. Peyper has a wealth of experience as the man in the middle, having officiated a plethora of test matches, the Rugby Championship, Super Rugby, Currie Cup, and two Rugby World Cups. He also serves on the elite panel for the International Rugby Board.
There's still all to play for in this match, but before I reveal my Ireland vs England winner, let's see a few odds from the best betting sites.
💯 Ireland vs England Betting Odds Six Nations
Below, I have included the meat and potatoes of any best rugby betting site: match winner odds and those for Asian handicaps.
🥇 Ireland vs England Odds: Match Winner
Ireland may not have the same sort of slim odds as the favourites of the other two games on Super Saturday, but odds around the 1.10 mark tell you all you need to know about whom the bookies think will win.

➕ Ireland vs England Handicap Odds
Ranging from 11.5 to 19.5 points, the Asian handicap odds tell us that the bookies don't think this is going to be a smooth ride for the away side in this year's Ireland vs England Six Nations finale.

🏆 Six Nations 2023 Standings before Round Five
Four wins from four matches is a strong record from the Irish. England, on the other hand, have only half that success, accompanied by two losses. The full Six Nations table is below.
Rank | Team | Played | Wins | Draws | Losses | Points For/Against | Points Difference | Bonus Points | Total Points |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Ireland | 4 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 122/56 | +66 | 3 | 19 |
2 | France | 4 | 3 | 0 | 1 | 133/97 | +46 | 2 | 15 |
3 | Scotland | 4 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 92/84 | +8 | 2 | 10 |
4 | England | 4 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 84/106 | -22 | 2 | 10 |
5 | Wales | 4 | 1 | 0 | 3 | 56/106 | -50 | 1 | 5 |
6 | Italy | 4 | 0 | 0 | 4 | 75/123 | -48 | 1 | 1 |
With Ireland leading the pack in 1st place and England trailing in what the former England Head Coach, Clive Woodward has dubbed the second tier of the Six Nations, in 4th, the standings tell us that the Irish should smash the living daylights out of the Men in White and Red.
🌏 Current Rugby World Rankings
A solid year last year has also put Ireland first in the world rankings, with England falling out of the top five to sixth. The full table follows.
Rank | Shift | Nation | Points |
---|---|---|---|
1 | 0 | Ireland | 91.82 |
2 | 0 | France | 90.47 |
3 | 0 | New Zealand | 88.98 |
4 | 0 | South Africa | 88.97 |
5 | 0 | Scotland | 82.77 |
6 | 0 | England | 82.12 |
7 | 0 | Australia | 81.80 |
8 | 0 | Argentina | 80.72 |
9 | +1 | Wales | 78.08 |
10 | -1 | Japan | 77.39 |
11 | 0 | Samoa | 76.03 |
12 | 0 | Georgia | 75.94 |
13 | +1 | Fiji | 74.84 |
14 | -1 | Italy | 74.63 |
15 | 0 | Tonga | 71.21 |
The great oracle of world rugby, the rankings, tells us that 1st-place Ireland should easily overpower the lowly 6th-place England. I think this is starting to look easy to pick an Ireland vs England winner.
☘️ Ireland Overview
✔️ Ireland Form
⏪ Ireland Six Nations 2022 Form
Ireland would have been gutted not to grab the top spot in last year's competition, but they held their own throughout the tournament and claimed four impressive wins from five, still putting questions to the French in their only loss. Based on last year's standing and the fact the Irish were able to overturn England at Twickenham, 15-32, last year's form points towards a happy home crowd at the Aviva when the final whistle blows.
▶️ Ireland Six Nations 2023 Form
In the first week, Irish fans could already see the sort of Six Nations their side was going to have when Wales buckled to Ireland's might, 10-34. Fortress as Welsh fans would like to believe the Principality is, Ireland were able to storm the castle and outclass the Men in Red in physicality, set pieces, fitness, skills, and much more.
Week two saw a continuation of Ireland's good form as they took on France, kicking the visitors in the teeth, 32-19, after Les Bleus had deprived Andy Farrell's men of a Six Nations Grand Slam title in last year's competition. Despite the flair of the French, Ireland kept the game tight and showed no weakness in their defensive line, also capturing an all-important bonus point for four tries.
To be honest, week three was a closer game for the Italy vs Ireland match than I expected. The Men in Green were down eight of their starting XV and still came away with a dominant win of 11 points, however, so that tells you enough about the depth of the Irish set-up.
Finally, dark horses, Scotland welcomed Ireland to Murrayfield in what seemed a promising challenge to the so far undisputed power of the table leaders. Even Scotland were swept aside, however, in a textbook 7-22 win, leaving Ireland with only one last piece of the puzzle to solve in order to coronate themselves in 2023.
What else can you say about a four-from-four record? Ireland's form has been fantastic this year. Can we call our Ireland vs England prediction this early? Perhaps, but let's still be thorough and have a quick look at England's form this year and last.

✔️ England Recent Form
⏪ England Six Nations 2022 Form
Many an England fan had a lot to say about how the Men in White and Red performed in last year's Six Nations, with a lot of frustration directed at the mismatched coaching style of the former Head Coach, Eddie Jones. Two wins from five was not seen as a typical England outing in the competition, and the side seemed to be taking backwards steps compared to the leaps-and-bounds progress of teams like France and Ireland. Based on last year, alone you would be forgiven for thinking England aren't going to be up to par in this final test of the 2023 Six Nations.
▶️ England Six Nations 2023 Form
Week one started off as a disaster for Steve Borthwick in his new tenure as Head Coach of the English, seeing as England took a beating from Scotland on home turf. Yes, it was a relatively close score, but the Red Rose never seemed as if they were going to get into the game. 23-29, therefore, may have been a bit of a let-off.
If there was disappointment in the first week, at least England vs Italy churned out a more typical score for fans of the home side, the final whistle heralding Borthwick's first managerial win, 31-14.
What highlights there were in the previous week seemed to fade away in a scrappy match for Wales against England in week three. England did not look comfortable in the least, but a win is a win, and they came away with the four points after 80 minutes that ended 10-20.
Steve Borthwick said during the tournament that there would be no quick fixes for England, and never more was that proved true than for the England vs France test in week four. The away side embarrassed England, 10-53, gifting them their worst ever loss at home and in the Six Nations. It was plaudits all around for the French and a harsh look in the mirror for the Red Rose.
Will England be able to muster any kind of confidence on the pitch on Saturday? Not a chance. Eddie Jones may be long gone, but the senior management that propped up his poor results are still oozing around the RFU backrooms, and it's my opinion that Borthwick will never be able to get the England wagon's wheels rolling till he finally has a clean break from the old ways. On the form that we have seen so far, I think this key indicator has put the last nail in the coffin for England in my prediction.

Tweets by England🕵️ Ireland vs England Prediction Six Nations (2023)
This is Ireland's year, and they have everything to win. England, on the other hand, are having a nightmare of a year, and it seems very little will wake them up from their sleeping curse any time soon. The Irish are physical, have true 80-minute stamina, have strength in their squad depth, and play with the fire in their bellies that you need to win championships. The same can not be said of the English, given their disorganisation, lack of discipline, and inability to defend at the back, letting slip silly line breaks.
I have no doubt in my mind that Ireland will win this match and claim the Grand Slam title and Six Nations 2023 championship. The question is by how much. I can see Ireland getting two converted tries and two penalties over their counterparts, so I'm going with Ireland to win by 20 points.
Prediction for the Ireland vs England winner? Ireland to win.
💶 Ireland vs England Betting Tips
Given how poorly England played last week, I think the bookies' odds of Ireland to beat England at 1.11 are generous, indeed! Nevertheless, I like my betting odds with a little more bite, so I would look towards the handicaps. For me, Ireland to beat England (-19.5 points) at 2.05 offers the best value, albeit bringing in a lot more risk than just having a go on the match winner.
Remember, as always, that gambling should be a bit of fun, though, so whatever your bet, be sensible.
