Armagh and Derry find themselves in the perceived 'group of death' as the All Ireland SFC moves into the round robin phase. The Ulster pair are housed with Dublin and Galway, with the Dubs off to a flyer after downing the Tribe in Salthill last weekend. These Ulster rivals will do battle at the Box-IT Athletic Grounds in Armagh on Saturday evening and Kieren McGeeney knows his Sam Maguire winners of 2024 cannot afford to slip up against the visiting Oakleafers.
It has been a miserable campaign for Derry, relegated from Division in the Allianz League and then sent packing from the Ulster Championship by Donegal at the first hurdle. They will attempt to spring a major surprise in Armagh and below you will find our Armagh v Derry betting tips from some of the best betting sites ahead of this monster showdown.
🏆 Armagh vs Derry Prediction
For the third year running, Armagh have to try and pick themselves up from heartache in the Ulster final at Clones. After penalty shootout defeats against Derry in 2023 and Donegal a year ago, they lost out in extra-time against the Tir Conaill side this year. There were plenty of positives from that game, however, and boss Kieran McGeeney will be reminding his players they got up from the canvas last season to drive on and win the All-Ireland.
As the group stages get going, there are plenty free bets on offer and a wise investment could be on Armagh as their odds to retain Sam Maguire are starting to look generous with some of our recommended betting sites following the Clones loss to Donegal.
They may not have landed the Anglo Celt cup but Armagh showed plenty positives in defeat. Derry were handed a 15-point hammering when these sides clashed in the National League in March and our top Armagh v Derry All Ireland SFC prediction is for McGeeney's side to win again.

We've scoured some of leading online sources for the latest odds on this All-Ireland series clash and you can find out more about the best options for betting in our bookmaker reviews. Armagh won't be too disheartened despite losing another Ulster decider, their performance was strong on the day, and they know that the battle was lost but the war is still to be won as the race for Sam Maguire now starts in earnest.
It's been a difficult start for Paddy Tally as Derry boss, with relegation from Division 1 in the Allianz League swiftly followed by a hefty Ulster exit at the hands of Donegal. The latest Armagh vs Derry betting odds look about right for this Ulster derby with the home side expected to come out on top.
Armagh v Derry Betting Tips
Armagh contributed hugely to a high-octane and high-quality Ulster final in Clones a fortnight ago. Despite twice falling 7pts behind against Donegal, their resolute nature was there to see and they forced extra-time. Derry were blown away by that same Donegal side in the Ulster opener. There have been whispers of Derry going well in challenge games but that won't wash against the All-Ireland champions in their own backyard. The Armagh vs Derry odds show the hosts at a price of 1.30 at DirectionBet and they should oblige.
Oisin Conaty was excellent in the Ulster final, contributing six points from play. The forward has the skills to worry Derry's defence and should match that haul now. Armagh had 10 different scorers in the first half when these sides met in the Athletic Grounds in league action. They carried threats from everywhere and then rattled in four goals in a thrilling seven-minute spell at the start of the second half put Derry to the sword as they ran in a tally of 4-24. Derry also conceded 1-25 in the Championship to Donegal last month. There should be plenty scoring at both ends.
- Tip 1: Armagh to win: This 'group of death' means both these sides can ill afford an early slip-up. Armagh have to make their home game pay off, and Derry might have half an eye on Galway at Celtic Park in round two.
- Tip 2: Oisin Conaty Over 5.5 points: Conaty was the best player on the field in the Ulster final. He kicked six points from play – three in each half and Donegal couldn’t handle his movement.li>
- Tip 3: Over 2.5 goals: Armagh scored four goals in a second-half blitz in the league meeting here in March.
⚽ Armagh Squad Form
Oisin Conaty was forced off in extra-time in the Ulster final but the Tír na nÓg forward is expected to make the starting line-up here. Kieran McGeeney will likely resist the urge to start Rian O'Neill. The 2024 All-Star has not been involved with Armagh so far in 2025 but he arrived on the team bus carrying a gear bag for the Ulster final and in the pen pics submitted by Armagh for the match programme, O’Neill was also included. His availability for this Armagh v Derry All Ireland Football H2H could be key.
⚽ Derry Squad Form
Captain Conor Glass is one of the few Derry players to be getting a pass mark consistently this season. He hit six points in the league defeat here in March. He was, though, kept scoreless by Donegal in the Ulster Championship loss. Brendan Rogers fill some of the void there, hitting 0-05 including a couple of two-pointers. Shane McGuigan failed to score from play in Ballybofey. A hefty contribution from him and Glass will surely be needed if Derry are to prevail.

📈 Armagh v Derry - H2H Stats
Derry won a historic Ulster final in Clones in 2023, the first time ever the provincial decider went to penalties, but Armagh have overtaken them since. This is the second successive year the counties have clashed at the group stage. Travelling to Celtic Park to face Mickey Harte’s men was certainly a daunting task last season but Armagh made it look easy as first half goals from Ross McQuillan and Conor Turbitt made life hard for Derry.
