Meet Enda McElhinney

Enda McElhinney has more than 10 years' experience previewing and analysing major sporting events for a range of publications, including The Telegraph and Planet Sport, with a bank of knowledge spanning GAA, football, horse racing, and snooker.

Enda graduated from Leeds Trinity University with a degree in Media and English and has found a niche providing sports previews with a strong focus on betting outcomes.

He's a keen follower of the GAA. Based in Donegal, his leanings tend towards Gaelic football and the pursuit of the Sam Maguire Cup, though he also follows the hurling scene closely.

From a young age, Enda's love of sport has gone hand in hand with an interest in the odds behind every event. That interest started with horse racing and has grown to take in sport more broadly. He's an avid follower of horse racing in both Britain and Ireland, with a strong connection to jumps racing, and provides regular racing tips with a particular focus on the Cheltenham Festival and the National Hunt season around it.

In recent times Enda has become a regular contributor at BetinIreland, providing horse racing and GAA previews alongside weekly columns on Irish sport, both domestically and internationally.

GAA sports

Gaelic games are central to almost every aspect of Irish culture, and the national sports are rightly treasured. Born and raised in Co Donegal, Enda has always maintained a strong interest in the GAA, despite, by his own admission, a far from distinguished playing career in his youth.

Football is his first love within the GAA, hailing as he does from a county with deep ties to the game. He covers the new rules for the modern game and what they mean for a sport working to recapture neutral fans, as hurling has rightly grabbed headlines in recent years.

Football

Football is another key area of knowledge for Enda. He regularly covers League of Ireland action and follows English and Scottish football closely, alongside the top European club competitions, providing stats-based analysis and tips on the biggest games.

Horse racing

Horse racing is a real passion for Enda, who has spent more than a decade as a regular racing contributor across a range of publications. Jumps racing is to the fore, with the Cheltenham Festival among his most eagerly anticipated events of the year, alongside the major spring festivals at Leopardstown, Aintree, and Punchestown, before turning to the Flat and summer fixtures like Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood.
