Galway will play host to Kildare on May 23rd as the sides meet in their Round 1 match of the newly revamped 2026 All Ireland SFC. Galway enter the All-Ireland series after a gut-wrenching defeat to Roscommon in the Connacht final which stopped their bid for a record-equalling 5th title in a row, while Kildare suffered extra-time heartbreak in their Leinster semi-final loss to Westmeath.

In this preview to the Round 1 clash, we will look at the latest Galway v Kildare betting odds as well as some Galway v Kildare betting tips. We will also offer up our very own Galway v Kildare prediction, so read on as we look forward to the start of the 2026 All-Ireland series.

🕹️ Galway vs Kildare

Kildare qualified for this year’s All-Ireland series off the back of winning the 2025 Tailteann Cup but will certainly face an uphill struggle when they travel to Salthill to take on Galway. With that in mind, our Galway v Kildare All-Ireland SFC prediction is for a comfortable win for Padraig Joyce’s Galway side.

Galway are just operating on a higher level than Kildare these days, and it would be a major shock if Kildare could claim an away win on May 23rd. Galway will be disappointed with the way the Connacht final got away from them down the stretch in their loss to Roscommon, but for large patches they had looked the likely winners of this year’s Connacht final. Joyce will have to work on the fact that they conceded eight unanswered points over the closing stages to turn a six-point lead into a two-point loss, but a home tie against a Kildare side searching to find a way back to the top of the game could be the perfect game for the Tribesmen to reset.

Galway’s inside scoring threat and power around the middle third should be too much for Kildare in Salthill with the return to form and fitness of Damien Comer and Shane Walsh adding even more ability to an already stacked forward line.

Kildare, for their part, will be massive underdogs heading to Galway and will probably need a performance their fans haven’t seen in many years to claim a win. In Darragh Kirwan, Ben Loakman and Eoin Cully, they have forwards who can score on a consistent basis, but the issue against Galway may be getting enough ball to their danger men. Galway’s strength and power around the middle and their ability to win the ball may prove too much of a stumbling block to Kildare winning enough primary possession to really hurt Galway.

As we have said, however, Galway should be on another level for their visitors on May 23rd. Their recent experience of big championship games, their superior squad depth and their home advantage should make it a comfortable enough Round 1 win for Galway, as they bid to reset their 2026 All-Ireland hopes.

⚡⚡ Galway vs Kildare Betting Tips

For those of you looking for the best bets in the Galway v Kildare match or those of you with free bets to use on the match, we will now give you three Galway v Kildare betting tips that may come in handy ahead of the match.

Remember, before placing any bet, why not check out our bookmaker reviews service? Here, you can get lots of extra information about many of Ireland’s top betting sites.

  • Tip 1: Galway to win by 7-9 points: Galway will be eager to move on from their Connacht final defeat and re-establish themselves amongst the top All-Ireland contenders when they take on Kildare, and we think they can do it quite comfortably. Their forward power and scoring threat should be too much for a Kildare side looking to climb the ladder once more, and if they can get on top early, it could get away from Kildare rather quickly.

To back Galway to win by 7-9 points, you can get a price of 4.75 with BoyleSports.

  • Tip 2: Over 47.5 Total points Both of these sides are capable of hitting big scores on their day, with Galway hitting 2-22 in defeat in their last match against Roscommon. If the weather holds up, we could be in for a scoring treat on May 23rd, especially with the calibre of scorers that will grace the field in Salthill. Paul Conroy, Damien Comer, Rob Finnerty and Darragh Kirwan are just some of the players capable of hitting big scores, so keep an eye out for the Total Points market ahead of the game.

  • Tip 3: Back Galway HT/FT: If Padraig Joyce’s team can get a fast start and not hold any hangover from that Connacht final defeat, they could impose themselves very quickly on a Kildare side that have not been used to playing at this level in recent times. Galway’s strength in the middle third, allied with their scoring prowess, could make it a very difficult evening for Kildare if they build any early momentum, and that is what we think may happen in Salthill on May 23rd.

If you agree, you can currently get a price of 1.22 with BoyleSports. On Galway HT/FT.

✨ Galway Squad Form

Galway may have lost the Connacht final, but as they head into the All-Ireland series, the fact that their squad is starting to come together should be some solace to Padraig Joyce and his management team. Shane Walsh started in Roscommon and hit 0-9 points, while Damien Comer had a huge impact off the bench, scoring 1-2, not forgetting his late intervention which resulted in a two-pointer for Roscommon. Padraig Joyce could also bring on the likes of Matthew Tierney, John Daly and Shane McGrath, highlighting that even though they lost in Roscommon, if they can keep their squad fit for the remainder of the championship, they could still have a major say this year.

🎈 Kildare Squad Form

Kildare may have been relegated from Division 2 of this year’s National League, but they have earned their spot in this year’s All-Ireland series by virtue of winning the 2025 Tailteann Cup. They looked for all the world like the side that was going to reach the 2026 Leinster final as their semi-final with Westmeath went to extra time, but they couldn’t sustain it, ultimately losing by 4 points. If Kevin Feely can win enough primary ball in the middle to feed the likes of Darragh Kirwan, Alex Beirne and Eoin Cully, they could make an impact in Salthill, but if the match goes to form, it should be Round 2B for Kildare.
