Louth and Monaghan kick off their All Ireland SFC 2025 round-robin group stage on Saturday, the 24th of May, when they face off at St Conleths Park in Newbridge. Throw-in for the match is 16:45 GMT, and for those curious about what TV channel Louth v Monaghan is on, GAA+ will be showing the match live as part of their Championship coverage.
Louth enter the group stage as Leinster champions after beating Meath in the Leinster Final to win their first provincial Championship in 68 years, while for Monaghan it will be their first competitive match since their Ulster quarterfinal defeat against Donegal on April 20th. In this preview of the match in Newbridge, we will give you the latest betting odds, projected team news and some betting tips that will hopefully steer you in the right direction.
🏆 Louth v Monaghan Prediction
Louth’s reward for winning their first Delaney Cup since 1957 is to earn a place in Group 3 of the 2025 All-Ireland SFC group stages alongside their May 24th opponents, Monaghan, Clare and 2024 Tailteann Cup winners Down. Ger Brennan’s side had victories over Laois, Kildare and Meath to win the Leinster Championship this year, and their Leinster win was impressive given the nervy and mistake-laden start to the match they had against their local rivals. A steeliness and ability to be hard to beat for opposition teams are hallmarks of this Louth side, and they showed it to its fullest in that Leinster Final win. We think Monaghan may be able to come up with the answers in Newbridge, however.
Monaghan got promoted from Division 2 of the League this year, a division that included Louth. In their League match back in March, Monaghan took the spoils by 6 points , in a match where Gabriel Bannigan’s men led by 17 at one stage after a blistering start before a second half fightback from Louth brought some respect to the scoreline. Monaghan faced Donegal in their opening Ulster Championship match, and despite coming out on the losing side by 2 points, 0-21 – 0-23 , there were plenty of positives the Farney management team could take from that match. Down 0-14 – 0-8 at half time, Monaghan fought back and got within one score of Donegal, with a late 2-point effort drifting just wide as Donegal held on.
It should be another exciting encounter when Louth face Monaghan in Newbridge, with plenty of scoring ability on both sides and a refusal to give in and lie down, a characteristic of both counties. Both teams will fancy their chances of getting out of this group, but our prediction is a win for Monaghan to get their group stage up and running.
OUR PREDICTION: 🏆 MONAGHAN TO WIN 🏆

✔️ Louth v Monaghan Betting Tips
At this stage of our Louth v Monaghan All-Ireland SFC prediction page, we will now give you 3 betting tips that may be useful for you if you are having a bet on the match.
- Tip 1: Monaghan to Win: As we have said, we believe Monaghan will take the 2 points on offer from Newbridge when these two sides clash in their first group stage match. Monaghan scored the most of any team in the National League this year and hit 0-21 points in defeat against Donegal, so they have shown their attacking strength already this year. They have been operating on a higher level than Louth all season, and although Louth entered the match as Leinster champions, Monaghan’s class should tell in the end. If you agree, you can get a *goto directionbet-sport [price of 1.61 with DirectionBet] * on Monaghan taking the win.
- Tip 2: Conor McCarthy to Score a Goal Anytime: McCarthy is without doubt one of the best-attacking wingbacks in Gaelic Football today. The Scotstown club man hit 2-21 in 8 League games this year as Monaghan won Division 2 of the League. He also chipped in with 0-3 points against Donegal and will be a vital part of Monaghan’s attacking strategy. If Monaghan can trouble the Louth goalmouth in this match, it will be no surprise if it’s McCarthy on the end of any goal chances Gabriel Bannigan’s team may have in Newbridge.
- Tip 3: Craig Lennon to Score a Goal Anytime : Another top-quality attacking half-back expected to feature heavily in this match is Louth’s All-Star Craig Lennon. Lennon hit 1-1 in the Leinster Final to show his attacking worth to his county, with his late point ensuring Louth’s win over Meath at Croke Park. Lennin also hit 4-7 from play in the 2024 Championship, highlighting the threat the St Mochta’s man is for Ger Brennan’s team. Keep an eye out for the goal scorer markets when the prices are available and be sure to shop around to get the best price on Lennon raising a green flag.
⚽ Louth Squad Form
Louth earned their 9th Leinster Championship and first since 1957 when they beat Meath in Croke Park on May 11th. Ger Brennan was able to rely on star men Sam Mulroy and Craig Lennon to step up, as both hit a combined 2-8 to help their county over the line. Ryan Burns and Tommy Durnin were among others to stand up for Louth when they were needed in the second half of that Leinster Final and will be needed once again if they want to get anything from this Monaghan match.
⚽Monaghan Squad Form
Monaghan shone in Division 2 of the League this year, beating Roscommon in the Final as they earned promotion back to Division 1 for 2026. Conor McCarthy, Mícheál Bannigan, and Rory Beggan have, as usual, stepped up for Gabriel Bannigan’s team in 2025, strongly contributing to Monaghan’s scores so far this year. Dessie Ward and Stephen Mooney also shone in that second-half comeback against Donegal, with Mooney looking to earn a place in the starting 15 for the game against Louth.
👕 Louth v Monaghan Predicted Lineups
Louth have played three matches already in this year’s Championship and have a settled panel of players to choose from now as they enter the group stages. Monaghan have had just one game in the Championship and will have had five weeks between their loss to Donegal and this game against Louth. Below we have selected two possible lineups both counties may line out with come throw-in.
