Kerry welcome Roscommon to Fitzgerald Stadium on May 17th, with the throw-in for the game in Killarney set for 14:30 GMT. GAA+ will be showing the match live, so fans at home and enjoy watching as both sides kick off their 2025 All Ireland SFC round robin Group 2 campaigns.
Kerry enter the Group Stages as Munster champions after dismantling Clare 4-20 – 0-21 in the Munster Final on May 4th. Roscommon, meanwhile, lost their Connacht semi-final to Galway in rather disappointing fashion, failing to show up on the day to trouble Galway. In this match preview, we’ll give you everything you need to know — from the latest odds to our prediction.
🏆 Kerry v Roscommon Prediction
Kerry are heavy favourites to kick off the group stage with a win in Killarney, and that is our prediction ahead of the game. Kerry should be far too strong for a Roscommon side that has looked below par in a couple of their recent big games. Roscommon tamely surrendered against Monaghan in the Division 2 Final back in March to lose in the end by 10 points and once again failed to put in a performance in their Connacht semi-final against Galway.
They may have hammered London between those two bad defeats, but heading to Kerry in poor form with question marks around your team is never a good place to be going to. Jack O’Connor’s team struggled themselves to get over the line against Cork in their Munster semi-final, needing extra time to get the job done, but that game against Clare looks like it was what they needed to get some form and confidence back.
The likes of Paul Murphy, Diarmuid O’Connor and Shane Ryan may have been missing, but Sean O’Shea returned to the lineup and hit 0-8 points, which should be a boost to Kerry’s chances of success this summer. With everything considered, we just can’t see any way in which Roscommon can go down to Kerry and pick up a win. Kerry will hope to have some players back for the clash and should prove far too strong for Davy Burke’s team, and that is what we predict for this All-Ireland SFC game, a comfortable Kerry win.
OUR PREDICTION: 🏆 KERRY TO WIN 🏆

✔️ Kerry v Roscommon Betting Tips
Next in our Kerry v Roscommon All-Ireland SFC prediction, we are going to give you three betting tips, essential for this match up.
- Tip 1: Kerry to beat the Handicap: Kerry are deserved favourites to beat Roscommon, and we predict that they could beat their Connacht opponents quite comfortably. With that in mind we advise looking at the handicap betting market for this match. Some of the top sportsbooks around are offering Kerry -8.5 for this match, and we believe Kerry can beat that. Given the questionable form Roscommon are in and the scoring prowess that Kerry possesses in Sean O’Shea, Paul Geaney and David Clifford, we just can’t see how Kerry won’t win this match with a bit to spare come the end of the 70 minutes.
If you agree, you can get a price of 1.80 with DirectionBet on Jack O’Connor’s men beating the -8.5 handicap in Fitzgerald Stadium.
- Tip 2: David Clifford to score a goal anytime: Clifford is already the most feared inside forward in Gaelic Football, and he seems to be hungry for success this year in a Kerry jersey. In his last 3 games, against Mayo in the League Final, Cork in the Munster semi-final and Clare in the Munster Final, Clifford has hit 2-22, and he looks primed to add heavily to that total when he faces Roscommon.
- Tip 3: Sean O’Shea to score a goal anytime: The Kenmare man made his return in the win over Cork, hitting 1-1 after coming on at half-time. He then followed that up with 0-8 points in the Munster Final to firmly re-establish himself as a key part of Kerry’s forward line once again. If O’Shea is played close to goal, he can be a huge goal threat for Kerry, and with Paudie Clifford back in the team for the Roscommon game, that is where he can be utilised. If he is, combined with David Clifford and Paul Geaney, Kerry could have a potentially devastating goal threat against Roscommon.
⚽Kerry Squad Form
Kerry were crowned Divion 1 champions back in March with an easy win over Mayo at GAA HQ. They then began their Munster Championship with a semi-final clash against old Munster rivals Cork. A back-and-forth match which Kerry were fortunate to get out of was ultimately settled in extra-time, with the Kingdom advancing 3-21 - 1-25. A more routine 4-20 - 0-21 win over Clare means Kerry enter the round-robin stage as first seeds in Group 2, which also includes their May 17th opponents Roscommon, Cork and Meath.
⚽ Roscommon Squad Form
Roscommon managed to get promotion from Division 2 of the League but then disappointed in their Division 2 Final against Monaghan in Croke Park. They began their 2025 Connacht Championship with a 2-26 – 0-13 win over London, before a very disappointing 1-24 - 0-18 loss to Galway in the semi-final. As ever, if they are to trouble Kerry, they will need big performances from midfielder Eddie Nolan and star forwards Enda Smith, Ben O’Carroll and Diarmuid Murtagh.
👕 Kerry v Roscommon Predicted Lineups
Kerry were missing Shane Ryan, Paudie Clifford, Diarmuid O’Connor, Paul Murphy and Graham O’Sullivan through injury or suspension for their Munster Final. Clifford should return, but how many of the injured players that return could determine how strong the Kerry panel is going to be moving forward. They should have enough for Roscommon, but to win the All-Ireland, Kerry may need their full complement back as soon as possible.
Roscommon have not played since that Connacht defeat to Galway on April 20th, so Davy Burke will have had four weeks between that match and this opening group game against Kerry to try and put his Roscommon team back on a positive footing.
