Galway take on Monaghan in the preliminary Quarterfinals of the All-Ireland championship. The match takes place this Saturday 22nd June at 16:00 GMT. The match takes place in Galway’s home ground of Pearse stadium due to the fact that Galway finished 2nd in their group behind Armagh on goal difference, whereas Monaghan finished 3rd in their group behind Louth and Kerry. The match will be refereed by Tipperary man Sean Lonergan. Galway are unbeaten in the championship to this point winning 3 Connacht championship games to London, Sligo and Mayo and won 2 of their 3 ‘All Ireland’ group games beating Derry and Westmeath and drawing with Armagh, although they did not look convincing in games against supposed lower teams Sligo and Westmeath. Monaghan have slightly recovered from a 8 games losing streak that started during round 2 of the Allianz league in February and continued until they drew with Louth in round 2 of the All Ireland at the beginning of June. They got their first win since the last weekend in January last time out against Meath but they were not convincing even in victory. This Saturday's game will be an interesting knockout match as Galway are stronger on paper, but previously in the same scenario against Sligo and Westmeath, they struggled.
🏆 Galway vs Monaghan All Ireland Championship Prediction
If this game was played at the beginning of the year, it would be a tough one to call, and I might even favour Monaghan. In 2023 Monaghan got to an All Ireland semi-final for the first time since 2018 having previously been on a 30 year drought of not being in an All Ireland semi-final since 1988. Monaghan looked in the perfect position to have a strong 2024 and even started their league campaign by beating All Ireland champions Dublin, getting revenge on the team that beat them in the 2023 All Ireland semi-final. However, since then it has been a rough road for Monaghan.
They lost their remaining 6 league games and were relegated from Division 1 in last place. They suffered a shock defeat to Cavan in the preliminary Quarter finals of the Ulster championship and started off the group phase of the All Ireland championship with a 10 point defeat to Kerry, extending their losing streak to 8 games. In their last two games they have drawn to Louth and beaten Meath but have not looked convincing either. They were behind for most of the Louth match before rallying at the end, and in the Meath game, they were 5 points up with 5 minutes to go, but the lead was cut back to 2 in stoppage time before a Conor McManus point gave Monaghan a 3 point victory. The confidence levels have to be low. Galway are unbeaten in the championship to this point and are Connacht champions. They looked much improved versus a strong Armagh side and were unlucky not to get the win that would’ve taken them straight to the quarter-final. I expect them to book that place in the quarter-final this time around with a victory over Monaghan.
🔎 Galway vs Monaghan Performance Analysis
This season in the championship, across 6 games Galway have scored a total of 9-91. This is an average of 1.5-15.16 which can be rounded to 2-15. Across 4 championship games this season, Monaghan have scored a total of 5-50 which is an average of 1.25-12.5 which can be rounded to 1-13. Using these averages as a guide, we can guess that the game will finish 2-15 to 1-13 to Galway, which is a margin of victory of 5 points. Galway have conceded 1-76 which is an average of 0.16-12.66, which can be averaged to 0-13 per game. Monaghan conceded 6-60, which is an average of 1.5-15, which can be averaged to 2-15, the same average per game as Galway's score. Monaghan are conceding more than they are scoring, whereas Galway are conceding less than they are scoring, only conceding 1 goal across 6 games, which is very impressive.
💯 Galway vs Monaghan All Ireland Championship Odds
Galway are very much the favourites for this one, and with good reason. They are unbeaten in the championship to this point, getting 5 wins in a row over London, Sligo, Mayo, Derry and Westmeath and drawing last time out to a strong Armagh side in a game they led for a long period of time. Galway are coming in at odds of around 1.28 for this game versus Monaghan on Saturday. Monaghan have been very poor this season. Between league and championship, they went on a 8 game losing streak. They have responded slightly by being unbeaten in their last two draws with Louth in a game they trailed for most of the game and beating a poor Meath side, nearly blowing a 5-point lead with 5 minutes to go. They looked edgy against Meath due to the fact they had not been in a winning position like that in so long, they certainly struggled to get over the line. Galway are the favourites for this one, and this can be seen on the best Irish betting sites.

✔️ Galway vs Monaghan - Betting Tips
Galway and Monaghan is an intriguing game due to the fact we are now in knockout football and here are some tips if you are unsure how the game will transpire.
Tip 1: Galway to Win in an accumulator
Galway come into this game in great form, unbeaten in their 6 championship games to this point with 5 wins and 1 draw. They missed out on the top spot and a place straight into the All Ireland Quarter finals on a score difference to Armagh by only 7 points. In the group game, Galway looked strong against supposed strong opposition Derry and Armagh getting a 5 point win versus Derry and a draw versus Armagh. They were excellent in the Connacht final against Mayo being victorious against Mayo. This season in games versus Sligo and Westmeath Galway were the heavy favourites but were not very convincing only beating Sligo by 2 points and Westmeath by 4 points. They are the heavy favourites versus Monaghan this time out, so they will need to be more assured this time around, as Monaghan will have more quality than Sligo and Westmeath. Galway are high scoring at the moment and are strong defensively and if they combine these again this weekend victory should be theirs. Monaghan are conceding quite a bit and will need to be stronger defensively to deal with Galway’s quality. I am tipping Galway to win this one, but their odds are more suited to an accumulator than a stand-alone bet. The best price for a Galway win is at BoyleSports where they are priced at 1.29.
Tip 2: Galway Handicap -3
As mentioned before Galway have been very strong in both attack and defence this championship this season. They have scored a massive total of 9-91 across 6 championship games, an average of 2-15 per game. They have conceded an average of 0-13 per game. They will make it very difficult for a mOnaghan team who will be low on confidence, having only 1 win in their last 10 games, losing 8 times and drawing once in the other 9 games. In the championship they have scored an average of 1-13 per game and conceded an average of 2-15. On paper, based on these guides, this game looks like Galway should win with a few points to spare. Boylesports are offering 2 handicaps a -3 handicap and a -4 handicap priced at 1.73 and 2.00 respectively. Based on averages Galway are going to have a 5 point victory so you could take a chance on the -4 handicap but I think -3 is safer and more likely because Monaghan will want to keep it tight because it is a knockout match. A handicap of -3 for Galway seems like a good bet, especially if you want bigger odds than just a Galway win with BoyleSports pricing it at 1.73.
Tip 3 Galway Half-Time/Full Time
Galway have held the half time lead in 2 of their 3 All Ireland group games, and in their 6 championship games, they have held the lead at half time on 3 occasions. They were behind at half time to Westmeath, Sligo and Mayo but went on to win all 3 of those games. They were ahead at half time versus Armagh, London and Derry and went on to win against London and Derry and drew with Armagh. Monaghan were behind at half time in 2 games versus Kerry and Louth. They went on to lose both these games. They were ahead at half time versus Meath and Cavan and went on to beat Meath but lost to Cavan. Galway have been strong this season, whereas Monaghan have struggled to get ahead in games and if they do they struggle to get over the line. I expect Galway to start the game well because they will be full of confidence, unlike Monaghan and will lead at half time and go on to win the game. This will be a good bet if you have any free bets and is priced at 1.57 on BoyleSports.
