A huge game takes place on Sunday afternoon as Ulster champions Donegal take on Louth in the All-Ireland Quarterfinal. The match takes place in Croke Park and is part of a doubleheader, with the game being followed by Kerry vs Derry . The match throws in at 13:15 GMT and will be refereed by Cavan man Joe McQuillan. The match will be live on RTE 1 for Irish viewers and will be available on GAA Go for viewers outside Ireland. Louth have been on an upward trajectory the last few years. They finished bottom of their All Ireland group last year and were hammered in the Leinster final of 2023. This year, they took Dublin to the limit and even led the game at half time, eventually losing by 4 points. They finished 2nd in their All Ireland group this year, winning once, drawing once and losing to Kerry by 14 points, although they went into that game having already qualified for the preliminary quarter final. Donegal have also improved this year after the return of Jim McGuinness as manager. They look like ‘All Ireland’ contenders after winning the Ulster championship, and then they finished top of the group in the group phase on score difference. They did suffer a shock defeat to Cork, but they did respond by beating Clare on a scoreline of 2-23 to 0-5.

🏆Donegal vs Louth All Ireland SFC Prediction

Donegal will be full of confidence because of their championship campaign to this point. They won the Ulster title, defeating league champions Derry in the quarter final before beating Tyrone after extra time in the semi final and Armagh on penalties in the final. This was a tough route to an Ulster title for Donegal, coming up against 3 teams who all made it out of the group and Armagh and Derry making it to the All Ireland quarter final just like Donegal. Louth were impressive in the Leinster championship, but their victories came against sides playing in the Tailteann Cup, Wexford and Kildare. They fell short in the final versus Dublin, but they were very impressive and took Dublin to the limit. In the group stages of the All Ireland they beat Meath in the opening game before drawing with Monaghan and losing to Kerry. Their preliminary quarter final versus Cork was a tight and tense affair and was a low-scoring encounter, winning 1-9 to 1-8. Louth have been impressive this season, but most of their victories have come against teams who have had poor seasons, Wexford, KIldare and Meath, while Cork have had a decent year. Louth will find it difficult against Donegal, who have had an impressive year suffering 1 defeat in league and championship in 2024, a total of 14 matches, a very impressive record. As a result of this I am going for Donegal to get the victory Sunday, in a tight game, and my verdict is Donegal to win.

🔎 Donegal vs Louth Performance Analysis

In the All Ireland championship group phase, Donegal scored a total of 2-60 across 3 games, which is an average of 0.66-20, which can be rounded to 1-20 per game. Their lowest points total was 0-16 versus Cork, and their highest was 2-23 versus Clare. In their 3 group games and in the preliminary quarter final, Louth have scored a total of 7-39 across 4 games, which is an average of 1.75-9.75, which can be rounded to 2-10. Their highest points tally was 3-10 versus Meath, and their lowest was 1-9 versus Cork last time out, although they were victorious in both those games. Louth have scored an average of 7 points less than Donegal, and their points tally have been low although they only conceded 0-9 versus Meath, 2-10 versus Monaghan and 1-8 versus Cork. They did concede 2-21 versus Kerry although they were already through to the next round going into that game. Donegal conceded 3-9 versus Cork, 0-14 versus Tyrone and 0-5 versus Clare, although Clare had no chance of qualifying out of the group going into that match. Louth have conceded an average of 1-12 per game while Donegal have conceded an average of 1-9 per game. Donegal conceded 1-1 less than Louth average scoring, while Louth conceded 8 points less than Donegal average scoring.

My Prediction: 🏆Donegal to win!

💯 Donegal vs Louth All Ireland Championship Betting Odds

Donegal are the clear favourites amongst the bookmakers for this one and this is slightly surprising. Donegal have been in good form this year but did suffer defeat in the group phase versus Cork but responded with a huge victory over Clare. Louth have been on an upward trajectory for the last few years and will be a blueprint for a lot of teams about what can be achieved with patience and hard work. They beat Cork last time out which makes it a surprise that they are coming in at odds of around 5.50 whereas Donegal are coming in at odds of around 1.20. Donegal are the clear favourites for this one, and this can be seen on many Irish betting sites.

✔️ Donegal vs Louth Betting Tips

Donegal versus Louth is an intriguing All ireland Quarter final match, and here are some tips if you are unsure how the match will transpire.

Tip 1: Donegal to Win in an accumulator

Donegal are the favourites for this one and all signs point to their victory this Sunday. Louth have improved over the last few years, but this game may be a step too far. If Louth are victorious on Sunday, they will be into their first All Ireland semi final since 1957. This is Louth’s first ever All Ireland Quarter final as there was no Quarter final stage until 2001. This will be a big step up for Louth, who have improved, but this will be their 3rd game in consecutive weeks, and it may be a bridge too far. Donegal have had a 2 week break since their last game against Clare where they were victorious on a scoreline of 2-23 to 0-5. Louth have nothing to lose on Sunday because they have exceeded the public’s expectations of them but they would no doubt have believed they could make it this far. Donegal have been excellent this year losing once in twelve games and have already two trophies in their cabinet, the Division 2 league title and the Ulster championship. Louth will make it difficult for Donegal but DOnegal should have enough quality to win on Sunday. Their odds are too low for a standalone bet best priced at Betalright Sport at a price of 1.20, but if you have any free bets including Donegal in an accumulator could be fruitful.

Tip 2: Louth Handicap +6

By using the scoring averages outlined in the performance analysis section, we can guess the margin of victory that either team could have. Donegal have scored an average of 1-20 per game and conceded an average of 1-9 per game in the All Ireland championship. Louth have scored an average of 2-10 and have conceded an average of 1-12. Louth scored 1 point higher than what they conceded, while Donegal scored 11 points higher than they conceded. If we look at what both teams scored, Donegal would win the game by 7 points on a scoreline of 1-20 to 2-10. If we look at what they concede, then Donegal would win by 3 points on a scoreline of 1-12 to 1-9. The latter scoreline is important because Louth conceded 8 points less than what Donegal average, whereas Donegal conceded 4 points less than what Louth scored. If we take this from each other, we can guess that Donegal will win this game by a margin of 4 points. Louth will no doubt make it difficult for Donegal and are brilliant at staying in games, as seen in the Leinster final, where they lost by only 4 to Dublin. The handicap for Louth on DirectionBet Sport is +6, coming in at odds of 1.82, and the averages point to this happening.

Tip 3 Sam Mulroy to score a goal anytime

Sam Mulroy has been Louth’s star man for a number of years now and whichever Donegal defender or maybe even defenders that is tasked with marking the Louth forward on Sunday will be in for a long afternoon. He carries Louth in some games, being their main score threat, and in any game he is on form in, Louth has a chance of winning. Louth have scored a goal in all 4 of their All Ireland final matches, scoring 3 goals versus Meath, 2 versus Monaghan and 1 versus Kerry in the group stage and scoring 1 last week versus Cork. They have scored in their last 5 games, scoring 2 goals in the Leinster final versus Dublin. This is a total of 9 goals, which is an average of 1.8 goals per game, so there is a good chance they will score a goal this weekend, and who better to get that goal than star forward Sam Mulroy, who is priced at 2.40 to score a goal anytime.
