📝 Leinster Football Betting Tips

The 2026 Leinster Senior Football Championship is the most competitive it has been in over a decade. Louth are the title holders, with Meath having reached last year's final, and Dublin returning with something to prove after their shock 2025 semi-final exit. Here are 5 Leinster GAA betting tips for the 2026 championship.

Tip 1 - Dublin to Win the 2026 Leinster Championship

Dublin were knocked out by Meath in the 2025 semi-final, a result that sent shockwaves through the county. However, writing off a Dublin team motivated by that humiliation would be a mistake.

They retain senior quality throughout the panel and have a favourable quarter-final draw against Carlow or Wicklow. Plus, this was Dublin’s first Leinster Championship exit since2010, so a run to the Leinster football final is very much on the cards. You can back Dublin at 1.73 at BoyleSports.

Tip 2 - Louth to Win the 2026 Leinster Championship

Louth won the Delaney Cup for the first time since 1957 in 2025 and arrive in 2026 as back-to-back contenders. The squad is settled, the management team is experienced, and the belief throughout the county is real after ending decades of hurt. Their quarter-final draw sees them face Wexford, which is very manageable. Back them to go all the way at 7.00 at BoyleSports.

Tip 3 - Meath to Win the 2026 Leinster Championship

Meath reached the 2025 Leinster final and enter 2026 with confidence and momentum. They knocked Dublin out at the semi-final stage last year, which showed the gap between the counties is now marginal. With a quarter-final against Westmeath or Longford, Meath at 2.88 represents solid value for punters who believe the Royal County can back up last year's run. Back Meath at 2.88 at BoyleSports.

Tip 4 - Kildare to Reach the 2026 Leinster Final

Kildare have been building steadily for several years and enter 2026 with a quarter-final against Offaly or Laois, a draw that suits them well. If they come through that, a semi-final against either Meath or Louth awaits, and on form Kildare can cause a serious shock. At 15.00 odds, Kildare to win the Leinster Championship is worth a look, but backing them for a final appearance offers better value. Check BoyleSports for the latest markets.

Tip 5 - Louth to Win the 2026 All-Ireland Championship

Having ended their Leinster drought in 2025, Louth now have their sights on the Sam Maguire. They showed in last year's All-Ireland series that they can compete at the highest level. If they successfully defend the Delaney Cup, the confidence within the squad will be formidable and a deep All-Ireland run looks possible. You can back Louth to win the 2026 All-Ireland SFC at 12.00 at BoyleSports.

💯 Leinster Football Betting Markets

leinster-football-betting-logo-2025

Here are the most popular Leinster football betting markets available at the top sportsbooks.

Outright Betting

Outright betting is the most straightforward market in the Leinster Senior Football Championship. Pick the team you think will lift the Delaney Cup. If your selection wins the championship, the bet wins. If they do not, it loses. The top bookmakers offer ante-post outright odds from well before the first round, right through to the final stages. For example, you can back Louth to defend the 2026 Leinster title or take Dublin at a bigger price if you believe they will bounce back strongly.

The Over/Under Market

This wager focuses on the number of goals scored in a match. Bookmakers set a goal line, typically starting at over/under 1.5, and adjust based on the teams involved. For example, if Dublin play Kildare and the final score is Dublin 2-16, Kildare 1-12, a bet on over 2.5 goals wins, as 3 goals were scored across both teams.

Odd/Even Final Points Total

Bet on whether the total number of points scored in a match will be an odd or even number. It’s one of the simpler markets available and works well for punters who want a different angle on a game. Odd/Even betting is available at half-time and full-time at the top sites. For example, if Louth finishes with 1-17 and Kildare with 1-14, the combined total is 37 points. An odd total bet wins.

Handicap Betting

There are 3 possible outcomes in a Gaelic Football game: a home win, an away win, or a draw. For example, in a Laois (+15) vs Dublin game (-15), the former team is given a head start (with +15) whilst the latter is handicapped (with -15). Dublin will have to win the game by at least 16 points for your bet to succeed if you picked them to win.

Again, if you bet on the game to end in a draw, Dublin must win the match by 15 points for your wager to win. However, if you bet on Laois to win, they would only have to avoid a defeat by less than the handicap amount for your bet to win. This type of bet is best in situations where there’s a gulf in class and quality between the two teams.

Total Points Over/Under

You place a wager that the total number of points to be scored in a game or to be scored by a specific team will be more (over) or lower (under) than a certain figure which is usually set by your chosen sportsbook. For example, if a sportsbook sets total points of 31.5 for a Dublin vs Offaly game, you can bet that the total points to be recorded in the match will be over or under 28.5. You can also bet on the total points to be scored by Dublin to be over or under a given figure, say 19.5.

📌 Leinster Football Championship Format

Eleven counties compete in the Leinster Senior Football Championship in a straight knockout format. The 4 semi-finalists from the previous year receive byes into the quarter-finals. In 2026, those 4 are Louth, Dublin, Meath, and Kildare. Of the remaining 7 teams, 6 are drawn against each other in 3 first-round ties, while the 7th receives a bye directly to the quarter-finals.

That produces 3 first-round games, 4 quarter-finals, 2 semi-finals, and the final, 10 matches in total. The winners of the Leinster football final and the runners-up both qualify for the new-format GAA All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.

🏁 History of the Leinster Senior Football Championship

The Leinster Senior Football Championship is organised by the Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and has taken place every year since 1888. In 1884, after the GAA was formed, new GAA football and hurling rules were formulated and published in the nationalist weekly newspaper, the United Irishman.

The inaugural Leinster Football Championship in 1888 was won by Kilkenny as they defeated Wexford in the final. Eight Leinster football Championship teams participated in this maiden edition, including Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Meath, Queen's County (Laois), and Wicklow.

Dublin dominated the competition in the modern era, setting a record of 14 consecutive titles between 2011 and 2024. In 2025, Louth ended that run, with Meath eliminating Dublin in the semi-final. Dublin remain the most successful county in the competition's history with 63 titles, followed by Meath with 21.

🏆 Leinster GAA Senior Football Roll of Honour

Below is the full roll of honour for the Leinster Senior Football Championship. Every county in Leinster has won the title at least once, except Wicklow. Even Kilkenny, who no longer compete in Gaelic football, have been provincial champions on 3 occasions. Louth's 2025 victory was their first since 1957, bringing their total to 9 titles.
