Louth and Laois are set for a Leinster SFC quarter-final showdown at Cedral St Conleths Park in Newbridge on Sunday afternoon, with the winners advancing into a provincial semi-final date with either Kildare or Westmeath later this month. Louth were mid-table in the Allianz League Division 2 this spring, while Laois had the same record of three wins and four defeats in the third tier.

Laois will be coming in with confidence after a strong 2-21 to 2-11 win over Wexford on Saturday night last in the Leinster Football Championship preliminary round.

Louth were beaten provincial finalists in the last two seasons, giving Dublin a solid game in the Croke Park decider last year before losing by four points in the end, while Laois last graced the Leinster decider in 2018. All eyes on Newbridge on Sunday afternoon then for what will be the last of the quarter-finals in Leinster.

🏆 Louth vs Laois Prediction

Laois come into this contest with a confident win under their belts. Justin McNulty’s men eased past Wexford last weekend, rushing into a 12-point half-time advantage and never being under any pressure thereafter at Chadwicks Wexford Park. This test in Newbridge will demand far more, however, but Laois should come in with their tails up after easily repelling a side that won all seven Division 4 games before losing to Limerick in the Croke Park decider.

Louth have been resting up since last month's 1-19 to 0-17 win over Meath in Inniskeen that completed their Division 2 run. They finished with six points and that win over Meath was enough to help them condemn Down to relegation in what proved a very tight section, with just four points splitting seven of the eight counties. That current Louth v Laois odds suggest the Wee County are going to canter onwards towards another potential Leinster final in May, but Laois could have something to say about that.

OUR PREDICTION: 🏆 LOUTH TO WIN 🏆

💯 Louth vs Laois Betting Odds

It’s going to be a busy weekend in Newbridge, with the St Conleths Park hosting Kildare and Westmeath on Saturday evening before this second provincial quarter-final on Sunday afternoon – this one of course as a neutral venue for these counties. There's lots of provincial action in store this weekend, so why not consult our sportsbook reviews for the best place to do your GAA betting. Louth, after reaching a Leinster final last season and giving the Dubs some food for thought, are the side with the potential for a big performance and manager Ger Brennan will have his eyes fixed intently on reaching Croke Park and contesting back-to-back Leinster deciders.

Whichever of the best betting sites we chose to consult ahead of Sunday's showdown in Kildare, it is Louth that are hefty favourites for this quarter-final. Laois, despite a confident win last weekend, are ultimately expected to come up short here against a team that went all the way to the All-Ireland quarter-finals last season.

✔️ Louth vs Laois Betting Tips

If you have any free bet offers, we share our top betting tips below. Louth should come out on the right side of this contest with plenty to spare. The handicap is set at 6 points in favour of the Wee County at around evens, but there's more juice in a price of 4.75 at BoyleSports for Louth to win by 7-9 points. Their Division 2 league form, mixing it with Monaghan, Meath and Cork along the way, is much stronger than anything Laois have encountered this spring. Wexford were brushed aside last weekend but their prior loss against Limerick was a strong hint they would come up short. Louth should win this and win it well, and a 7-9 point win is the first of our Louth v Laois betting tips.

Sharp shooting was key for Louth in last month's win over Meath in Inniskeen as they avoided relegation from Division 2 in the league. Ryan Burns was on free-tacking duties and he kicked over five scores from dead balls, including a pair of two-pointers, in a running tally of nine points. The Hunterstown Rovers clubman scored more from play than any other Louth star during the National League and is good value here to help himself to least six points. Goals were key for Laois last week, with Patrick O'Sullivan and Daniel O’Reilly raising green flags in the first half at Wexford Park. They were exposed at the back at times too, conceding two goals of their own. Louth should have talisman Sam Mulroy in their starting side here, and their prolific shooters can take advantage of some dodgy Laois defending to complete our Louth v Laois predictions.

  • Tip 1: Louth to win by 7-9 points: Louth are expected to prove too strong. Last year's All-Ireland quarter-finalists can overcome the handicap line in this game, with a couple of points to spare.
  • Tip 2: Ryan Burns to score over 5.5 points: Ryan Burns has been part of the Louth set-up for more than a decade and has rarely looked better than he did this spring in leading their scoring charts from play in the National League
  • Tip 2: Over 2.5 match goals: Laois hit the back of the net twice in the first half last week but they were opened up at the other end, too. They can contribute to a healthy goal tally in Newbridge.

📈 Louth Squad Form

Louth have had a couple of weeks to prepare for this assignment. Robbie Brennan’s side were minus talisman Sam Mulroy for the league finale but they still had enough in reserve to defeat neighbours Meath and secure their Division 2 status for next season. The free taking duties fell to Ryan Burns and the Hunterstown Rovers man delivered in good style. He hit nine points from dead balls, including two from outside the 40-metre arc for crucial two pointers. Conor Branigan came in for his injured club mate Andy McDonnell and hit two two pointers, putting his hand up for a Championship start now.

⚽ Laois Squad Form

Justin McNulty’s Laois were good winners last weekend against Wexford on the road. First-half goals from Patrick O'Sullivan and Daniel O’Reilly helped them into an unassailable lead at the interval and, in truth, much of the second half had all the intensity of a challenge match. Last year’s beaten Tailteann Cup finalists now step out against a Louth side that contested the Leinster final last summer for the second season running. Brian Byrne, Mark Barry, Ronan Coffey and wing-back Pa Kirwan all helped to keep the scoreboard ticking over for Laois in Chadwicks Wexford Park and that sort of ability will be key if they are stick with Louth in Newbridge.

👕 Louth vs Laois Predicted Lineups

Sam Mulroy has been an integral part of the Louth set-up over the past number of years, leader on the field and on the scoreboard, but he's currently on the sidelines and deemed unlikely to get back in time for this Leinster opener. Ryan Burns is filling the void, hitting nine points against Meath last time out. Conor Branigan has impressed this spring and could be rewarded with a Championship start. For Laois, boss Justin McNulty has not received any poor health reports in the wake of the win over Wexford and he's likely to stick to the side that ran out last weekend.

✒️ Louth vs Laois - H2H Stats

The Louth v Laois H2H stats are always intrinsically linked to the 1991 Leinster Championship, when their semi-final descended into a full on brawl in Croke Park. More recently, Louth were 10-point winners in a 2013 provincial clash and the Wee County looks best placed leading into this quarter-final tussle.

🎯 Updates from GAA Twitter (X)

Louth are aiming to contest a third straight Leinster decider this summer. They were hammered by Dublin in 2023, losing by 21 points, but closed that gap down to just four points last summer. Laois stand first in the path of the Wee County.
