Louth To Win!

Louth begin the defence of their Leinster Senior Football Championship crown when they play Wexford in Dr Cullen Park, Carlow, on Sunday, April 19th, at 14:30 GMT.

The 2025 Leinster champions narrowly missed out on promotion to Division 1 of the National League but are in good form heading to Carlow to face Wexford. Wexford, for their part, had a great league, winning promotion to Division 2, which they will play in for the first time since 2013, next year.

In this preview to this Leinster SFC quarter-final, we will offer up our thoughts on the match, including the latest Louth v Wexford betting odds, as well as some Louth v Wexford betting tips. We will also share our Louth v Wexford prediction ahead of the match, so read on, as we look forward to Louth vs Wexford.

🎯 Louth vs Wexford Prediction

Louth had a great 2025, winning the Leinster Championship, where they beat Meath in the final. They then qualified for the All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final, where they were soundly beaten by eventual finalists Donegal. They have shown they are capable of backing up what they did last year by displaying some good form in the league, finishing 3rd in Division 2, only losing to promoted teams, Meath and Cork.

They beat Derry and Tyrone along their league campaign and will be in a confident mood of making it through to another Leinster semi-final against either Dublin or Wicklow on May 2nd. Wexford have had a great year and will play Division 2 football next year after securing back-to-back promotions in the league. They narrowly lost the Division 3 final to Down after extra time in March, despite being 3 points up with 8 minutes of normal time to go. Their form so far this year should give John Hegarty’s team confidence that they can make their presence felt against Louth in Carlow, but Louth are currently playing at a higher level than the Slaney-siders and should be more than capable of booking their place in a semi-final.

Louth will feel another Leinster title is within their capabilities this year, so our Louth v Wexford prediction is for a Louth win.

OUR PREDICTION: LOUTH TO WIN

🕹️ Louth vs Wexford Betting Odds

Louth are now an established Division 2 team, and though Wexford will be joining them in Division 2 next year, there is currently a gulf between the two teams that can be seen when we look at the current Louth v Wexford odds. Louth are comfortable favourites for this one and justifiably too, with their Leinster win last year and their strong showing in the league earlier this year.

⚡⚡ Louth vs Wexford Betting Tips

At this stage of our Louth v Wexford prediction, we are now going to share some Louth v Wexford betting tips that may prove useful for those that fancy a bet on the match, or those with any free bet offers to use on the game.

Before having a bet on the match, however, why not check out our bookmaker reviews page? Here, you can find even more information about any of the betting sites listed.

  • Tip 1: Louth to win: Louth are just operating at a higher level than Wexford at the moment and should back that up when they meet on April 19th. Gavin Devlin looks to have continued the great work of Ger Brennan, and Louth cannot be ruled out when it comes to defending their Leinster title. Wexford is the first step on that journey, however, and Louth should be too strong for what is an ever-improving Wexford team.

If you agree and fancy Louth to justify favouritism against Wexford, you can get a price of 1.20 with BoyleSports on Louth winning through to another Leinster SFC semi-final.

  • Tip 2: Sam Mulroy to score a goal anytime: There is no doubt that Sam Mulroy is one of the best footballers in Ireland these days, with the Naomh Máirtín star hitting 4-37 in last year’s Championship as his County won their first Leinster crown in 68 years. He has continued that form into 2026, hitting 2-43 during the league, with 1-15 of that tally coming from play. If Louth are going to raise any green flags against Wexford, expect Mulroy to play his part.
  • Tip 3: Louth -6 Handicap: Louth should be too strong for a Wexford side hoping to cause a shock in this Leinster quarter-final. Louth nearly gained promotion to Division 1 and will be eyeing up another tilt at the likes of Dublin and Meath later on in the Leinster Championship. To do that, though, they must get through Wexford. Louth will be confident of doing that and will hope to replicate the 7-point win they had over Wexford back in 2024. If they do, they will beat the handicap.

To back Louth -6, you can currently get a price of 1.91 with BoyleSports.

🪄 Louth Squad Form

Louth narrowly missed out on promotion from Division 2 of the National Football League, finishing in 3rd place behind the two promoted teams, Meath and Cork. A slow start is what ultimately cost the Wee County, with Gavin Devlin’s team losing 2 of their first 3 games before winning their last 4 matches in a row. That winning run should see the defending Leinster champions head to Dr Cullen Park in a confident mood of dispatching Wexford.

A number of players missed the last league game, with the likes of former All-Star Craig Lennon, Padraic Tinnelly, Conor Grimes and Ryan Burns all missing from the win over Kildare.

🥇 Wexford Squad Form

Wexford had a very good National League, winning promotion from Division 3 alongside Down. They won 5 of their 8 games overall, losing to Limerick and twice to Down, including in the Division 3 decider after extra time. Many of the Wexford panel stood up heroically during their great league run, with Darragh Brooks, Eoin Porter, Páiric Hughes, Mark Rossiter and Seán Nolan among the team’s top performers. John Hegarty will need big performances from them once again to get through the challenge of an in-form Louth side.
