The 16th game of the 2023 Cricket World Cup sees New Zealand take on Afghanistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, and it might not be the routine result that many would have been expecting a few days ago. The Black Caps enter this match having won all three of their matches so far, while Afghanistan will be full of confidence as they picked up a shock win against England on Sunday. Will the Kiwis keep their 100% success rate, or will the Afghans pick up another unexpected scalp? Check out my predictions below as well as the competitive odds from my favourite betting sites.

💯 New Zealand v Afghanistan Betting Odds

Sports that have plenty of different betting options are ones that Irish bettors love to bet on as they provide plenty of entertainment value, and cricket is a sport that certainly slots into such a category. However, like with everything in life, some markets are better than others, and below I have given you betting odds for three of my favourite cricket betting markets:

Match Winner Odds: New Zealand v Afghanistan

Below you can find the match winner odds for this New Zealand v Afghanistan game:

Team
New Zealand1.151.181.201.191.17
Afghanistan4.004.334.604.503.75

Top Batsman Odds: New Zealand v Afghanistan

One of the top cricket betting markets in my opinion is the top batsman market - here you are tasked with trying to predict the player who will score the most runs for their country. Now, it is not an easy bet to get right since one mistake can see your selected player taking an early shower, but it is a really entertaining one, and sports betting should be about the entertainment value more than anything else.

Below I have provided you with the top batsman odds for three batsmen from each team that I feel have the potential to do well in this game.

New Zealand:

Player
Devon Conway2.75TBA2.74
Will Young4.50TBA4.70
Daryl Mitchell4.50TBA4.40

Afghanistan:

Player
Ibrahim Zadran4.00TBA3.80
Rahmanullah Gurbaz3.80TBA3.95
Hashmatullah Shahidi6.00TBA6.00

Top Wicket Taker Odds: New Zealand v Afghanistan

Another market that offers its users plenty of entertainment value is the top wicket taker market, which is where you have to try and guess the bowler that will have the best bowling figures for their team at the end of the innings. This is probably slightly easier than the top batsman market since one mistake does not see the bowler walking back to the shed. Below I have chosen three players from each team and given you their most recent top wicket taker odds:

New Zealand:

Player
Trent Boult3.25TBA3.25
Matt Henry3.50TBA3.55
Mitchell Santner5.50TBA5.60

Afghanistan:

Player
Rashid Khan2.75TBA2.74
Mujeeb Ur Rahman4.33TBA4.30
Fazalhaq Farooqi4.00TBA4.10

The above odds were correct at the time of writing. For updates, head to the bookmakers' sites.

🔍 New Zealand v Afghanistan Match Winner Prediction

Some teams seem to keep their best performances for big competitions, and the New Zealand cricket team happens to be one of those. They have been one of the best teams in the tournament so far, hardly breaking a sweat on their way to three wins out of three. Their opening-day thrashing of England was, in my opinion, their most impressive performance in the competition so far.

Afghanistan, on the other hand, have just one win from the three matches that they played, but that win came against England in their last match, meaning that they will enter this game against New Zealand full of confidence. They will be telling themselves that if they can beat the reigning champions, then they have what it takes to beat any team in the competition.

While Afghanistan are improving all of the time, I do not think that they have what it takes to knock over a quality New Zealand team. The only thing that could lead to another shock win for the Afghans is Kiwi complacency, but I do not see the Black Caps taking their eye off the ball. As a result, I think Afghanistan will give New Zealand a good match, but I see the latter making it four wins out of four.

✔️ New Zealand v Afghanistan CWC Betting Tips

I shall now give you some useful betting tips for this New Zealand vs Afghanistan match:

Match Winner: New Zealand to Win

Afghanistan do not play many ODI matches against the big boys, so it will not come as much of a surprise to hear that these two teams have only played each other twice - the Black Caps have won both of those games. So, heading into this third match between these two countries, history, and form are firmly on the side of New Zealand, and this is reflected in the odds that the top bookies are offering.

While New Zealand are the overwhelming favourites to win this game, Afghanistan showed in their win against England on Sunday that they have the skills to overcome the top teams in the world. When they play at the top of their game, they are a match for any of the teams in this competition as they have a very decent bowling attack, while their batsmen are used to playing on such wickets.

While New Zealand will be wary of the threat that Afghanistan can pose, I do not expect to see any upset in this match as the Black Caps are too on the ball at the moment. However, I would not recommend betting on the match winner since the odds for a New Zealand win are only 1.20 at LegendPlay, and even lower at other top bookies.

New Zealand's Top Batsman Winner: Devon Conway to Win

New Zealand's batting unit has been more or less faultless in their first three matches, and the one man that has stood out to me is Devon Conway. After three rounds of games, he is currently the second-highest run-scorer in the competition with 229 - only Muhammad Rizwan has scored more. Everything just seems to be coming out of the middle of his bat at the moment, and I can see him getting New Zealand off to a flier.

If you want to back Conway to top score for the Kiwis, then Dachbet Sports are currently offering odds of odds of 2.75

Afghanistan's Top Batsman Winner: Rahmanullah Gurbaz to Win

Afghanistan have some raw and talented batsmen in their ranks, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz definitely fits into this category. The 21-year-old has been in fine form for his country, and his blitz against England at the weekend set them up for what would turn out to be a match winning total. On these pitches that do not offer much movement for the bowlers, he is very dangerous and exciting to watch. The New Zealand bowlers will know that if they bowl poorly at him, then he will punish them and hit them for countless fours and sixes.

If you want to put money on Gurbaz to be Afghanistan's top batsman once again, then TonyBet Sports currently have odds of 3.95 on offer.

New Zealand's Top Wicket Taker: Mitchell Santner to Win Top Wicket Taker

New Zealand's bowling attack has been at the top of their game throughout this competition, which is highlighted by the fact that two Kiwis, Henry and Santner, have taken the most wickets so far with eight apiece. It was a toss-up between these two for the top wicket taker, but I have decided to go for Santner because the Afgha batsmen seemed to struggle more against England's spinners than their pace bowlers. Santner is one of the best spinners in the world at the moment, and I can see him getting Afghanistan's batsmen into a bit of a spin.

Those who want to back Santner to pick up the most wickets against Afghanistan can find odds of 5.60 at TonyBet Sports.

Afghanistan's Top Wicket Taker: Rashid Khan to Win Top Wicket Taker

If you are looking for the X-factor within the Afghanistan bowling unit, then you need look no further than Rashid Khan. Whenever he steps up to the crease to bowl, there is a sense of anticipation that reverberates around the stadium. The opposing batsmen know that he is the dangerman in the Afghanistan attack, so they usually try to just see out his overs without attacking too much. However, anyone who knows anything about cricket will know that being overly cautious is something that can lead to a batsman losing his wicket. I can see Khan getting in among the wickets against New Zealand.

If you also want to put your cash on Khan to be their top wicket taker, then Dachbet Sports are currently offering odds of 2.75.
