Glorious Goodwood looms large on the racing horizon as one of Britain's strongest summer traditions takes centre stage with July giving way to August. There will be plenty of Group-race quality action to savour over the five days at Glorious Goodwood, and we’re marking your card with our King George Stakes prediction for day four of the meeting.
Big Evs claimed victory in this race 12 months ago for trainer Mick Appleby, and the same connections could have a major 2025 King George Stakes contender in Big Mojo. As we begin the countdown to Glorious Goodwood King George Day, why not take some time to check out our bookmaker reviews, featuring the latest news and offers on the best places to bet?
🏆 King George Qatar Stakes at Glorious Goodwood Prediction
Ed Walker's mare Mgheera has enjoyed an impressive season since arriving from France, and connections shouldn’t be overly concerned about her recent second behind Arizona Blaze in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes at the Curragh. That race was something of a home fixture for Adrian Murray’s winner, and Mgheera came through strongly to claim second.
It was her first defeat since joining Walker's yard. She won a Group 3 at Longchamp in May over 5f on good to soft ground, then followed up with victory in the Temple Stakes at Haydock just 13 days later.
The 13-day turnaround from the Curragh to Goodwood, identical to her previous schedule, shouldn’t pose a problem. On current form, the Zoustar mare has solid claims, and she’s well-priced at 13.00 at William Hill to lead our Glorious Goodwood King George tips.
OUR PREDICTION: 🏆 MGHEERA TO WIN 🏆
🏇 King George Qatar Stakes at Glorious Goodwood Betting Preview
Our King George Day prediction wouldn’t be complete without a proper look at our contenders. The favourite has won five of the last seven renewals of the King George Stakes, making it a reliable guide for punters who follow the market leader in horse racing betting. This year, Asfoora is the expected favourite, but the Aussie ace could be vulnerable on her second trip to Goodwood after narrowly missing out last year to Big Evs.
Read on as we highlight three other contenders worth watching as King George Day 2025 approaches at the iconic South Downs venue. Their King George Stakes odds are listed for quick comparison:

1️⃣ BIG MOJO / MICK APPLEBY
Trainer Mick Appleby returns with another strong contender in Big Mojo, who lines up in this year’s King George Stakes after winning the Molecomb Stakes here last summer over the same course and distance, just as Big Evs did the year before.
After that success, Big Mojo went on to post strong efforts at York and Doncaster, capped by a superb fourth-place finish at the Breeders' Cup. This year, he landed the Commonwealth Cup Trial at Ascot, and though beaten in the main race, he rebounded with a runner-up finish in the July Cup at Newmarket.
He’s clearly at home at Goodwood, and he’s a serious player at a price of 7.00 at LeoVegas.
2️⃣ TOWN AND COUNTRY / HENRY DE BROMHEAD
Our next value pick in the King George Stakes preview is Town And Country, representing shrewd Irish trainer Henry De Bromhead, who won with his only previous Goodwood runner.
This lightly-raced Earthlight filly impressed in the Listed Scurry Stakes over 5f at Sandown in June, producing a late surge to deny Hold A Dream and Star Of Mehmas.
Her record over 5f reads two wins and two seconds, and there’s likely more to come. Our King George Stakes tip? Back her at 26.00 at William Hill for each-way value. Here are your other options:
3️⃣ LEOVANNI / KARL BURKE
Our final pick in this King George Stakes prediction is Leovanni, a Karl Burke-trained filly who made her name by winning the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot last year. She held her own in the Lowther Stakes at York, though she struggled in her Group 1 debut in the Cheveley Park at Newmarket.
After a 245-day break, she returned with a fourth-place finish in the Achilles Stakes at Haydock in May, a run that should have sharpened her fitness. That race was franked when No Half Measures beat Big Mojo in the July Cup. If Leovanni builds on her seasonal debut, she could outrun her odds of 34.00 at William Hill.
