Let’s kick off our preview with our King George Stakes prediction ahead of the highlight of Glorious Goodwood King George Day 2026.

In such an open race for fans of horse racing betting sites, perhaps the best thing to do is look at course and distance form, and that is what we have done with our King George Stakes tips this year.

Our fancy for this race is another win for the John and Sean Quinn-trained Jm Jungle, who is looking for back-to-back victories in the race. No horse since Battaash, who won the race from 2017-2020 has won consecutive renewals, but we give Jm Jungle as good a chance as any to claim the spoils in this year’s King George Stakes. He has failed to win any of the six races he has run in since his victory in this race in 2025, but he has had a similar build-up by coming third in the John Smith’s City Walls Stakes at York. His course and distance form cannot be overlooked either, as he knows what it takes to win over the minimum distance at Goodwood. The race also means quite a lot to the stable, as Highfield Princess, a horse described by the stable as a ‘horse of a lifetime', never got the chance to defend the King George Stakes after her win in 2023.

The defending champion will, as expected, have plenty of competition in the race, with the likes of favourite Night Raider, Jakajaro, Rumstar and Rosy Affair all fancied to challenge at the head of affairs.

Jm Jungle’s odds of 17.00 make him a horse with lots of appeal for us, however, given his form at the track and the importance of the race for the trainers. With that in mind, he is our pick to claim the spoils in the 2026 King George Stakes.

As we have said, the King George Stakes headlines events on day 4 of the Glorious Goodwood meeting and is a race for some of the best 5f sprinters in training.

Charles Hills is the most successful trainer over the last 20 renewals of the race, winning the pot on 5 occasions. 4 of those wins came with 4-time winner of the race Battaash, while he also won with Khaadem in 2022. 5 of the previous 10 winners of the race had run in the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot in their last run, and of the horses heading the market when we look at the latest King George Stakes odds with many of the top Irish Online Bookmakers, only Night Raider had his last run back at Royal Ascot.

Jm Jungle may be our King George Stakes tip at appealing odds of 17.00 with our selected betting sites, but he will have plenty of rivals on July 31st. Below you can see three horses we think could prove the biggest challenge to our tip.

The current favourite for the 2026 King George Stakes is Karl Burke’s Night Raider. The five-year-old may have finished 10th in his last run at Royal Ascot, but he only finished two and a half lengths behind the eventual winner Mission Central. He has two Group wins this season, and this drop down in class from the King George Stakes may be what he is looking for. Given the competitive nature of the race, his odds of 5.00 may be short enough for many punters, but if the drop in class suits, he could be a worthy winner.

2️⃣ Cover Up/Simon and Ed Crisford

Another runner worth taking a look at is Cover Up. Simon and Ed Crisford’s horse has had two races on British and Irish soil this season, coming 13th in the Group 1 King Charles III at Royal Ascot before heading to the Curragh and winning the Group 2 Tulfarris Hotel Sapphire Stakes. This is another Group 2, and if the 6-year-old has recovered in time, another win at this level cannot be ruled out. Odds of between 11.00 and 13.00 make Cover Up an interesting option on July 31st.

3️⃣ Spicy Marg/Michael Bell

Alongside our tip for the race, Jm Jungle, Michael Bell’s charge Spicy Marg is the only horse in the field at this stage to have won over the course and distance. That win came over Revival Power, and even though Revival Power reopposes in this race at odds of around 41.00, the fact that Spicy Marg has won at Goodwood should stand to Michael Bell’s horse as they bid for another Glorious Goodwood win. Odds of between 13.00 and 15.00 make Spicy Marg an appealing each-way candidate in this year’s race.
