And then there were four. After a slow burn of a hurling championship we are down to our final four in the 2026 All Ireland SHC, with Cork taking on Leinster champions Galway in the first of the semi-final matches on Saturday, July 4th. A huge crowd will be expected at GAA HQ, with the throw-in set for 15:30 Irish time. The match will be broadcast live on RTÉ and BBC, with Cork, the beaten All-Ireland finalists in 2024 and 2025, the favourites with many of Ireland’s top bookmakers.
In this preview to the first of this year’s All-Ireland semi-finals, we will give you the latest odds, team news and highlight for you some Cork v Galway tips ahead of the match. We will also give you our own Cork v Galway All-Ireland semi-final prediction, so read on as we look forward to the 2026 All-Ireland hurling championship catching fire over this year’s semi-finals weekend.
🥇 Cork vs Galway Prediction
Cork’s greater scoring threat, their squad depth and their greater experience of high-stakes, knockout hurling gives them the slight edge over Galway in the first of the 2026 All-Ireland semi-finals. Those reasons are why our Cork v Galway prediction is for a Cork win, but it should be close.
Galway have really established themselves again this year. Under Micheál Donoghue, now in his second year of his second spell in charge, they have unearthed some new stars to go along with the likes of the Mannion brothers, Padraic and Cathal, Conor Whelan and Daithí Burke. Rory Burke, Jason Rabbitte, Aaron Niland, Cian Daniels and Cillian Trayers have all been key to Galway making their way into the last 4, and that combination of youth and experience certainly has the potential to trouble Cork in this semi-final.
The way they dealt with Dublin will give them confidence, but they are facing another level of opposition when they face Cork.
Bar the Munster final, Cork have been one of the most consistent sides this year and look to have added more depth to their squad than they have had in recent seasons. Brian Hayes is in form, alongside Alan Connolly, and fans will hope Darragh Fitzgibbon can stay fit for the remainder of the championship as Cork bid to finally land that first All-Ireland win since 2005.
It should be a close match, with both sides capable of racking up big scores, but we think Cork’s greater depth at this moment in time, coupled with the experience they have of these big knockout matches, should see them through in the end against Galway.

- Tip 1: Cork to Win: It could be a classic in Croke Park on July 4th. We just fancy Cork to get over the line and book their spot in their third consecutive All-Ireland final against an emerging Galway side that have certainly left their mark on this year’s championship. The question for Galway is whether it is a season too early, maybe for some of their new players, to lead them into an All-Ireland. They definitely have the ability to knock Cork out, and it should be a close game, but Cork’s experience and their depth should be enough.
To back Cork, you can get a price of 1.32 with Festivalplay on Cork sealing their place in the All-Ireland final.
- Tip 2: Rory Burke anytime goalscorer: One of the new stars of this Galway side that has delivered their first Leinster title since 2018. Rory Burke has been a revelation and, along with Jason Rabbitte and Aaron Niland, has added a new dimension to Galway’s attacking play. He has scored 4-8 already this season, and if he has gotten over the injury that forced him off in the Leinster final, he could be vital to Galway’s chances of making the 2026 All-Ireland final.
- Tip 3: Brian Hayes anytime goalscorer: An all-star in 2025, Brian Hayes has once again been lethal up front for Cork this year. He has amassed 5-13 already in this year’s championship and is such a vital part of Cork’s forward line. He is not just a scorer but a brilliant link man as well, but if Cork are going to raise any green flags in Croke Park, it won’t be a shock if it is the Barr’s man that is doing it.
🎰 Cork Squad Form
Cork well and truly got the disappointment of the Munster final out of their system with their 6-25 – 2-11 win over Offaly in their quarter-final clash in Thurles. After not scoring from play in the second half of the Munster final against Limerick, Cork had 14 different scorers against Offaly, with Brian Hayes and Alan Walsh leading the way with 5-1 between them.
Ben O’Connor made four changes from the Munster final. In came Brian Roche and Hugh O’Connor, after injury ruled out Tim O’Mahony and Tommy O’Connell. Team captain Darragh Fitzgibbon returned at wing-forward, while Alan Walsh was handed his first championship start.
🥇 Galway Squad Form
Galway saved their best performance of the year for their Leinster final win over Dublin. Micheál Donoghue’s team had lost to Dublin during the round-robin phase, but whatever questions the Dubs asked of Galway’s combination of new stars and battle-hardened veterans, they had the solutions, as they coolly and calmly took home their first Leinster since 2018. Up front Tom Monaghan, who has been excellent this year, shone again, as did Conor Whelan.
That duo hit 0-12 points between them from play, while one of the new stars, Aaron Niland, was once again to the fore also, scoring 1-8. The loss of Rory Burke was a slight concern, but another of the new generation of Galway hurlers has had plenty of time to recover, and Galway fans will hope he is fit to start on July 4th.
🧨 Cork vs Galway Predicted Lineups
Cork’s last match was their 6-25 – 2-11 hammering of Offaly in Thurles in their All-Ireland SHC quarter-final match on June 21st, while for Galway their last outing was their victorious Leinster final with Dublin on June 6th.
Below you will find the teams both Cork boss Ben O’Connor and Galway manager Micheál Donoghue sent out in both those games.
