May 9th will bring us the 74th edition of the enthralling Waterford v Cork hurling rivalry when the two sides lock horns once again in Round 3 of the 2026 Munster Senior Hurling Championship. This year’s game takes place in Walsh Park, with referee Sean Stack due to throw the sliotar in at 18:00 GMT.
In our preview to what could be a vital match for both teams, we will give you the latest Waterford v Cork betting odds. We will also share our own Waterford v Cork prediction, so read on as we look forward to another Waterford v Cork Munster Championship clash.
🏆 Waterford vs Cork Prediction
As has been mentioned this could be a huge match for both teams. The Cork team knows a win guarantees them a place in the 2026 Munster final, with a game to spare, while for Waterford, it’s hard to see them advancing from the round-robin format for the first time without a win in Walsh Park. That is a huge prize whichever way you look at it for both, but we feel Cork’s want will be greater in the end, so our Waterford v Cork prediction is for an away win for Cork, which will see them into another Munster final.
That would be an important result for Cork and allow them time to prepare for a Munster decider without the pressure of any last round drama. Cork have some defensive issues to cope with against Waterford with both Ciarán Joyce and Robert Downey out, but this is why squads are now developed to such an extent, so Ben O’Connor will be hoping a couple of players can step up in the absence of Downey and Joyce.
Cork have had 2 wins over Tipperary and Limerick to date, but they have not had fast starts in either of those matches. We expect Waterford to come out and have a go at Cork right from the off in front of their home fans, but whether Waterford will be able to keep it up for the full 70 minutes remains to be seen.
Peter Queally’s team have scored well so far, hitting 7-45 over their two matches. That makes them the highest scorers after two rounds, but they also have the leakiest defence, conceding 3-63 up to now. Stephen Bennett has been a major part of that scoring, contributing 4-22, but if Cork can limit his influence and keep the free count low like they did against Limerick, they can go a long way to halting Bennett’s momentum.
Cork know the prize of another Munster final is there for them with a win in Waterford, while Waterford know their chances of qualification may rest on them beating Cork.
OUR PREDICTION: 🏆 CORK TO WIN 🏆

⚡⚡Waterford vs Cork Betting Tips
At this stage of our Waterford vs Cork preview, we are going to give you 3 Waterford v Cork betting tips that might be useful if you have any free bets to use.
Remember, before having a bet on this, or any match throughout the season, why not check out our brand reviews page? Here, you can find out lots more about any of the betting sites listed.
- Tip 1: Go Waterford/Cork in the HT/FT Market: Cork have not been in front in either of their matches so far before turning it around in the second half. Waterford haven’t been either, but we expect them to come out all guns blazing against Cork in front of their home fans and really bring the fight to Cork, especially in the opening 35 minutes. Waterford are fighting for their survival in this year’s Munster Championship, but we still fancy Cork to make their move in the second-half and come out on top in the end.
To back Waterford/Cork in the HT/FT market, you can currently get a price of 6.00 with BoyleSports ahead of the match on May 9th.
- Tip 2: Cork to win by 4-6 points: Cork’s last two wins over Waterford have been by 6 and 9 points, respectively, and we fancy it may be something similar on May 9th. Cork actually lost to Waterford the last time they visited Walsh Park in the Munster Championship, but Ben O’Connor’s team looks focused on reaching another Munster final this year, and we expect them to come away from their trip to Waterford with the win.
If you share our prediction, you can currently get a price of 5.00 with BoyleSports on Cork getting the win in Waterford by 4-6 points.
- Tip 3: Stephen Bennett to be an anytime goal scorer Bennett has already hit 4 goals in Waterford’s opening two Munster Championship matches. If his side are to have any chance of beating Cork and maintaining their hopes of qualifying from the round-robin format for the first time, they may need the Ballysaggart man to work his magic yet again.
✔️ Waterford Squad Form
Waterford have failed to win any of their opening 2 matches in this year’s Munster Championship. They lost 2-33 – 4-21 to Clare in Round 1, before an injury-time goal from Kevin Mahony saved Waterford’s hopes against Tipperary. Peter Queally was able to call on Austin Gleeson and Tadhg de Búrca from the bench against Tipperary, while Seán Mackey and Conor Keane both made their championship debuts.
📈 Cork Squad Form
Cork have begun the defence of their Munster Championship with two wins over Tipperary and Limerick. They will be forced into changes from the team that beat Limerick, however, after the crushing news that Ciarán Joyce and Robert Downey will miss the Waterford game, and in Joyce’s case, the rest of the 2026 championship.
