Limerick will entertain Waterford at the TUS Gaelic Grounds on Sunday, May 17th. This is one of the fourth round of fixtures scheduled for the 2026 Munster Senior Hurling Championship.
The Shannonsiders are the overwhelming favourites according to the latest Limerick v Waterford odds, despite their National League defeat to the Déise back in February. We’ll preview the match in more detail below while offering our own Limerick v Waterford prediction.
🏆 Limerick vs Waterford Prediction
Waterford edged Limerick by four points in their 2026 National League clash, defeating the Shannonsiders for the first time in nearly five years. Star forward Reuben Halloran struck 0-11 for Waterford, while he contributed 1-45 (48 points) in total for Peter Queally’s men overall and was the second top-scorer in Division 1A.
However, this was one of just two League victories in six attempts for the Déise, who finished in sixth and were relegated to the second tier. Conversely, Limerick topped the table and ultimately won the Division 1A final against Cork, while Aidan O'Connor topped the scoring charts and contributed an impressive 1-63 (66) during the campaign.
Limerick have also reached the previous seven Munster Championship finals, winning six before losing on penalties to Cork in 2025. They’ve defeated Waterford in eight of their previous 10 clashes since June 2018 too, while the Déise haven’t overcome Limerick in the provincial championship since the Munster semi-final in June 2011.
The Shannonsiders may also be boosted by the return of prolific forward Aaron Gillane, who is recovering from a calf injury and has a career provincial scoring record of 12-217. John Kiely’s team have no fresh injury concerns either after the recent victory at Clare, so we’re picking Limerick to win comfortably here.
OUR PREDICTION: 🏆 LIMERICK TO WIN 🏆
💯 Limerick vs Waterford Betting Odds
According to the latest Limerick vs Waterford betting odds, the Shannonsiders are priced at around 1.10 to defeat the Déise. These odds imply a 90.9% probability of a victory for Limerick, and reflects their superior individual quality and excellent provincial pedigree.
Conversely, you can back Waterford to win at odds as high as 8.00 with BoyleSports. This means that they only have a 12.5% chance of winning at the TUS Gaelic Grounds, where Limerick have only lost twice provincially since 2020.

✔️ Limerick vs Waterford Betting Tips
Outside of the win market, our recommended bookmakers have published a diverse selection of markets. These include handicaps, player props and half-time/full-time lines. Below, we’ve prepared some Limerick v Waterford betting tips based on the most popular markets available at the brands featured in our bookmaker reviews.
- Tip 1: Back Waterford With a +9 Point Handicap: Despite Limerick’s provincial and h2h dominance, the Shannonsider’s last four victories over Waterford have been achieved by a combined margin of just 21 points (5.25 per game). They also lost by four points at Walsh Park in the recent Division 1A clash, while the Déise boast a relatively strong attack and have scored seven goals in this season’s Munster campaign so far. Because of this, there may be value in backing Waterford with a +9 point handicap at odds of 2.05 with BoyleSports.
- Tip 2: Back Stephen Bennett as an Anytime Goalscorer: Waterford’s full-forward Stephen Bennett has gone 4-24 in just three provincial appearances in 2026, including a thrilling hattrick in the opening round defeat against Clare. He also contributed 1-10 as Waterford held Tipperary at home, while he has scored seven goals in his last seven Munster Championship appearances overall. He’ll definitely offer value as an anytime scorer against Limerick, although BoyleSports have yet to release the odds for this particular market.
- Tip 3: Back Limerick to Win by Between 4 and 6 Points: If you have any available free bets, you could also engage in winning margin betting. Limerick’s previous five home wins against Waterford have produced a combined winning margin of 34 points, equating to an average of 6.8 points per game. The potential return of Gillane will also pose a problem to Waterford’s occasionally porous defence, so pick Limerick to win by between 4 and 6 points at enhanced odds of 6.00 with BoyleSports.
🪄 Limerick Squad Form
The Shannonsider’s form has been slightly mixed since the beginning of 2025, with the side winning 11 of their 20 league and championship matches (55.0%) and losing seven. However, they did win the NL Division 1A title this season and lost narrowly in the 2025 Munster final.
Aaron Gillane has missed the previous provincial matches against Cork and Clare with a calf injury, but he’s expected to be fit to start against Waterford.
Otherwise, Limerick have no new injury concerns, although Seamus Flanagan remains excluded from the panel for 2026.
✨ Waterford Squad Form
Since January 1st, 2025, Waterford have won nine of the 20 league and championship matches they’ve contested (45.0%). They’ve been defeated on 10 occasions too, while suffering relegation to Allianz Division 1B after a disappointing league campaign.
They also have some injury concerns ahead of the trip to Limerick. Stephen Bennett, Iarlaith Daly and Ian Kenny were all withdrawn against Cork due to injury, although the former is expected to be fit in time for the weekend.
Austin Gleeson is available too after recently returning to the county panel, although it has yet to be seen whether he starts the game.
