Waterford entertain the defending All-Ireland champions, Tipperary, in their second round-robin match of the 2026 Munster Senior Hurling Championship at Walsh Park on Sunday, April 26th, at 16:00 GMT. GAA+ will be covering the match as part of their coverage, with Chris Mooney the referee for what could be a crucial match for both sides.

Both sides began their championship with defeats, Tipperary losing 0-29–1-22 to Cork, while Waterford went down against Clare on a scoreline of 2-33–4-21.

In this Waterford v Tipperary preview ahead of what could essentially be a knockout blow for the loser, we will give you the latest Waterford v Tipperary betting odds. We will also offer our own Waterford v Tipperary prediction, so read on as we look forward to another round of pulsating Munster hurling action.

🏆 Waterford vs Tipperary Prediction

This is a pivotal match for both teams after their losing starts to the championship. Waterford certainly showed more in their defeat against Clare than Tipperary did in Thurles against Cork, but Liam Cahill will surely have his team in better order for the visit to Waterford.

The 2025 All-Ireland winners looked flat in their first championship game and didn’t seem to have an answer for the 2nd-half move Cork made in seizing control of the match. In fact, in the second half Tipp were held scoreless from play until the 64th minute, while they conceded 11 points in a 15-minute spell after the break.

Waterford, for their part, hung in right until the end against Clare before succumbing to a 2-33 – 4-21 loss in Ennis. At various stages they looked likely to fall away against Clare, but time and time again Peter Queally’s team found a way back into the match, with Stephen Bennett hitting 3-12 for his team. That reliance on Bennett for scores may hurt Waterford in the long run, but the return of Austin Gleeson could be massive for a team searching to end a 4-match losing streak in the Munster Championship.

Tipp were heavily reliant on frees in their match against Cork, with 0-13 points coming from placed balls, and if Waterford can manage their discipline and stop the Tipperary forwards from getting on top, they are in with a great shout of picking up what could be a crucial win.

Roared on by the home crowd and with that hunger to get a win under their belts, our Waterford v Tipperary prediction is for a Waterford win, which could have ramifications for Tipp and their bid to qualify from this year’s Munster Championship.

⚡⚡Waterford vs Tipperary Betting Tips

At this stage of our Waterford v Tipperary prediction, we are going to show you some Waterford v Tipperary betting tips that may prove useful to those with any free bets to use.

Remember, before having a bet on this Waterford v Tipperary hurling match, why not check out our sports brand reviews page? Here, you can find out lots more about any of the betting sites listed.

  • Tip 1: Waterford to win: Tipperary may be favourites to go to Walsh Park and win, but we think there may be a slight surprise in store, and the Deise are going to pick up the 2 points on offer in this round-robin match. They showed enough fight and courage against Clare to suggest that they won’t be found wanting if the match is there to be won with 5-10 minutes to go, and given how flat Tipperary looked in Thurles, it might just be Waterford’s day on April 26th.

To back Waterford, you can currently get a price of 2.90 with DirectionBet.

  • Tip 2: Stephen Bennett to score a goal anytime: Bennett was in great goal-scoring form against Clare, hitting 3-12 in his team’s loss in Ennis. They will probably need to hit a couple more to beat Tipperary in Walsh Park, but Bennett has made a great start to his Munster Championship and will be looked upon again as his side’s main threat to Tipperary’s defence.
  • Tip 3: Waterford +3 Handicap: We fancy Waterford to get the win against Tipperary, but for those that are unsure of Waterford’s ability to get over the line in Munster, why not check out the handicap betting market? If they show the same fighting spirit they showed against Clare, they should at least give the All-Ireland champions a run for their money and get within the handicap mark of 3 points.

To bet on Waterford +3, you can currently get a price of 1.73 with BoyleSports.

✔️ Waterford Squad Form

Waterford opened their 2026 Munster season with a narrow 6-point loss to Clare, 2-33 – 4-21. While their 4-21 was a decent return, they will be concerned by the scores they gave away and the fact that Billy Nolan produced a couple of moments of real quality in goals to stop more green flags being raised. Stephen Bennett hit 3-12 while Austen Gleeson returned to the field for the first time since May 2025, in what could be a huge boost if the 2016 Hurler of the Year can recapture some of his old magic.

📈 Tipperary Squad Form

Stefan Tobin made his championship debut against Cork, while Oisin O’Donoghue was rewarded with his first start in the Munster Championship. Liam Cahill’s team succumbed to a 4-point loss to Cork, and it would have been more only for a late flurry of scores to aid the scoring difference.
