The Premier League Darts is a long darts competition that was launched back in 2005. The league is played from the beginning of February until May, although it was originally a tournament that lasted just two weeks. There used to be just seven participants, but this has since increased to the top ten players on the PDC circuit. There is a prize fund of £855,000 up for grabs, with the winner walking away with £250,000.

Once upon a time, darts was seen by many as being nothing more than a pub game, but it is definitely fair to say that those days are long gone because darts has now become one of the most popular sports in the world. All of the biggest tournaments, and the Premiership Darts definitely fits into this category, are played in front of large crowds while thousands more watch from the comfort of their own homes.

Darts is now really popular among sports bettors, and all of the best sportsbooks will have great odds and a wide range of markets for Premier Darts. However, with regard to certain categories, some bookmakers are much better than their rivals, and this is what we shall look at now.

Best Premier League Darts Free Bet Offer - Bet365

Due to the fiercely competitive nature of sports betting, bookies are required to offer their punters regular free bets in order to keep them happy and to make sure that they stick around for a good period of time. It is all good enticing someone to sign up, but if they leave a week later, then it was a wasted effort. A bookmaker that does not offer regular free bets to their customers is one that will see their customer number dwindle quickly. With regard to bookies that offer great free bets, you will not encounter many that can hold a candle to Bet365. Not only does Bet365 offer regular free bets to their frequent players, but they also offer a €50 Welcome Bonus.

Premier League Darts Betting Markets

One of the best things about betting on darts is that no matter what event you are going to bet on, there will always be a nice variety of markets that you can place money on. Below you can find some useful information about the popular darts betting markets that you can bet on with regard to the Premier League Darts.

Match Winner

This is the most popular kind of darts market that you will find at bookmakers, and it is the type of market that all those who are new to betting on this sport should think about starting off with. All that you are required to do with this kind of bet is choose the player that you think will go on to win the game. If they are victorious, then you will win your bet. If they lose, however, you will lose your bet. In all honesty, things do not come much simpler than that.

Tournament Winner

Instead of putting money on the player that you think will go on to win a match, you can do some outright betting and put money on the player that you think will win the whole competition. If a player that you put money on goes on to lift the trophy and win the big cheque, then you will land a nice profit as well. With this type of market, we suggest that you place your wagers early since the odds will decrease as the event goes on.

Most 180s

With a single turn at the oche, the most that a darts player can score is 180, and the crowd often goes wild when they manage to do so. You can put some money on the number of 180s you believe a player will score in a game - the bookie that you have an account with will give you a number such as 7.5, and then you need to decide whether that player will land 7 180s or fewer (Under) or 8 180s or more (Over). In addition to this, many of the best sportsbooks will allow you to put money on the combined total of 180s scored in a game.

Nine Dart Finish

A hat-trick in football is a huge deal, while a 147 in snooker is also a huge deal. The equivalent in darts is a 9-dart finish, and this is something that you can put money on happening. If you are new to darts, then a 9-dart finish occurs when a player checks out from a score of 501 with only nine darts. This is very hard to do, so it is a market that will always come with high odds and you will make a nice profit if you bet on one occurring and it does.

Handicap Betting

In a game of darts, like in a football match or a horse race, there will always be the favourite and underdog, and the former will always have short odds. You would see this regularly when the likes of Phil Taylor was playing. When a favourite comes with low odds, you can increase them a bit by giving them some sort of handicap. For instance, if Michael van Gerwen is playing someone that he should easily beat, you could give him a 4-leg disadvantage. In other words, it means that the opponent, whoever it might be, would get a 4-leg head start.

Premier League Darts Tips

There are many great tips that you can use when you are betting on dart tournaments such as the Premier League Darts. We are not forcing you to make use of any of the following tips if you do not want to, but if your betting strategy happens to be just betting and hoping for the best, then please do not be that surprised when you end up losing more wagers than you go on to win. So, without further ado, let us take a look at some great darts betting tips that can improve your odds of landing a winner.

Do Not Select Just One Participant to Win the Tournament

Backing one player and hoping that they will go on to lift the trophy is a traditional way of betting on darts events. However, selecting a winner at the start of a tournament is a hard way to make a profit because one bad match can see a player eliminated from the competition, depending on the format. Therefore, we recommend that you do a bit of research before you go ahead and place an outright bet and then put your money on two to three players that you think could lift the trophy. Okay, you will make a smaller profit than you would from betting on one winner, but we feel that it is a lot better to win small amounts frequently than big amounts rarely.

There is Value in the 180s Market

With regard to proposition bets, darts is a really good sport. Prop bets, which are also known as side markets, include the nine-dart finish market and the highest checkout market, but we believe that there is more value available in the market where you have to predict the player that will score the most 180s in a match.

During a game of darts, there are only two options for this kind of bet - A or B. The sports betting site that you have an account with will often favour the player that is deemed to be stronger. However, the other player that is deemed to be weaker can still score the most 180s in the game and lose. Therefore, we recommend that you take a bit of time to do some research and search for those players that can score heavily, but fail when it comes to hitting the doubles with the pressure building.

The Accumulator Strategy

If you are considering sitting down and watching a number of matches in a tournament such as the Premier League Darts, but do not want to follow your chosen players all the way until the end of the event, then you can simply make use of the accumulator strategy. With accumulators, or accys as they are now commonly known, you will only win your bet and make a profit if you manage to predict the outcome of all the games that you selected.

Sometimes, it will definitely not be worth betting on one game because the odds on offer are too low. There really is little point in betting on a player to win a match if you have to place high stakes in order to make a little profit. However, when you are betting on the winner of a number of matches, then your odds will be multiplied, which can lead to really high odds and plenty of profit if your predictions were right. Even if your predictions were wrong, at least you would have been thoroughly entertained.

Top Premier League Darts Free Bets Offers

The sports betting world is a really competitive one, and this is the main reason why sports betting sites have to come up with a variety of ways that they can appeal more to punters than their main rivals. If there is something about a rival that is more appealing, then you do not need to be a rocket scientist to know that more new players will sign up with them instead. In a really competitive industry, it is important that sports betting sites attract as many customers as they possibly can.

One of the major ways that sportsbooks try to outdo all of their rivals is to offer bonuses that punters will find it really hard to walk away from. In the table below, you can find five sports betting sites that we feel are currently offering some of the best bonuses at this moment in time.

BookmakerOfferClaim
Bet365€50 worth of bet credits Claim Now
William HillMake a €10 Bet and receive €30 of free bets Claim Now
888sportWager €10 and receive a free bet that is worth €30 Claim Now
BetVictorPlace a €5 bet and recieve €30 worth of free bet bonusesClaim Now
UnibetReceive up to €40 back if you lose your first bet and €10 casino bonusClaim Now

N.B. With regard to bonuses and promos, there is something that we have to stress, and this is that bookies are continuously changing their bonus offers in order to stay fresh and a step ahead of all their main rivals. Therefore, there is the possibility that the offers you have just read in the above table are not the same when you go to register. If this happens to be the case, then do not worry since the replacement bonus will be as good, if not better. Also, when it comes to bonuses, you should take the time to read the various T&Cs that are in play before making use of them since this ensures that you will not make an error that sees you lose your bonus.

The Tournament Format

There are ten participants in this competition, and these are the top four players in the PDC Order of Merit and six wildcards that are selected based on their overall performance over the year or how they played in the previous edition of the Premier League.

There are three different phases of this competition, and we have outlined them below for you.

Phase One

In every round, the 10 players play one match against one of the other nine opponents, meaning that each round is made up of five matches. There are nine rounds in Phase One, and it is the best of 12 legs, although a six-six draw is allowed. Once all the matches have been played in this stage, the two players that sit at the bottom of the table are eliminated from the competition - a win is worth two points and a draw is worth one point.

Phase Two

In each round, the eight remaining players play one match against one of the other 7 opponents, which means that each round is made up of four matches. There are seven phases in Phase Two, and the games are the best of 14 legs, so the winner is the first to 8 legs or their can be a 7-7 draw. At the end of this phase, the four players that sit at the bottom of the table will be eliminated from the tournament.

Play-Off Night

The top four players will take part in the semi-finals with the player who finished first playing the player that finished fourth and the second placed player taking on the third placed player to see who will battle it out in the Premier League Darts final for the right to lift the trophy. The semi-final matches are the first to ten legs, while the final is the first to 11 legs.

Premier League Darts Players

Logo of Unibet Premier League and a photo of all the players in the tournament gathered around the trophy on the Unibet stand

Below you can find the ten players that are participating in the 2022 edition of this competition. Once the full line-up is known, we will add the list below for you:

Although, we cannot give you a confirmed line-up, we are pretty sure that the top three in the PDC Order of Merit are all but assured a place, since they are that far ahead of their fellow players. These three, in descending order, are Gerwyn Price, Peter Wright, and Michael van Gerwen. Not only are they all but guaranteed to be playing at the 2022 Premier League Darts, but they also have a good chance of winning the title. Below we are going to take a closer look at them.

Gerwyn Price

Gerwyn price used to be a rugby player before he opted to switch sports, and it turned out to be a wise decision for him as he has shown the darts world that he has a lot of talent. In 2021, he claimed the PDC World Darts Championship, becoming the first man from Wales to do so. His victory also saw him jump to the top of the world rankings. In addition to this win, he also played in the semi-finals of the UK Open, The Masters, as well as the PDC World Cup of Darts.

Peter Wright

Peter Wright is known for his character and bravado, but he backs it up with his darts. In 2021, he has won the World Matchplay and the PDC World Cup of Darts, while he was also the runner-up in the Grand Slam of Darts. He also made it to the semi-final of The Masters. He will be pretty content with the year that he had, and will be looking to get his 2022 off to a flyer by winning the Premier League Darts.

Michael van Gerwen

Michael van Gerwen has been one of the world's best darts players for a number of years now, and he spent seven long years at the top of the rankings. However, due to the high standards that he has set over the years, he will be the first to admit that he had a relatively poor 2021.

He did not win a title this year, having been defeated in the semi-finals of the World Matchplay, UK Open, World Series of Darts, and Premier League Darts. While he has definitely had a poor 2021, it is always foolish to rule the Dutchman out of any competition because he is that good when he is on form. He will be hoping to put a poor 2021 behind him and start his 2022 with a win in the Premier League Darts.

Previous Winners

It is always wise to take a look at previous winners of a particular tournament as this gives you a really good idea as to who you are going to put your money on when the next edition of the same tournament rolls around again. Therefore, below we have provided you with a table that shows the winners from previous versions of the Premier League Darts.

So, as can be seen from the table above, Phil Taylor is the most successful player in the Premier League Darts with six trophies to his name, while Michael van Gerwen sits in second place with five titles under his belt. Michael van Gerwen might have had a poor 2021, but he has shown over the years that he knows how to win this competition, so we would not recommend that you bet against him.
