European Championship Betting Markets

cazoo-european-championship-of-darts-logo

The awesome thing about placing bets on darts is that there will always be plenty of markets that you can place your money on, no matter what the tournament happens to be. Below we have taken a close look at the main markets that you will be able to place bets on when it comes to the Darts Championship.

Match Winner

This is the most popular type of darts market that you will come across and if you happen to be new to betting on darts, then this is the kind of market that you should start off with. With this kind of market, all you need to do is select the player that you feel will win a match, and if they go on to do so, then your bet will be a winner. If they lose the match and get eliminated from the competition, then your bet will be lost. It does not come much easier than that.

Tournament Winner

Instead of putting your money on a particular game, you can place your money on the participant that you believe will go ahead and win the trophy. If the player that you bet on is lifting the trophy at the end of the competition, then you will make yourself a nice profit. When it comes to this market, we suggest that you place your wagers early since the odds will get lower as the competition wears on.

Most Maximums

The crowd love it when a player hits a 180, and you can cheer on every 180 even louder if you place a bet on how many will be scored in a particular match. The sportsbook that you have signed up with will provide you with a number such as 15.5, and then you have to decide if there will be 15 or fewer in the match (under) or 16 or more (over). Also, the majority of sportsbooks will allow you to bet on the number of 180s that one of the players will score in the game.

Nine-Dart Finish

In football a hat-trick is a huge deal. In snooker, fans hope to see a player hit a 147 break. When it comes to darts, there is one thing that the crowd always want to witness, and this a 9-dart finish. Nine darts are the fewest number that players can use to checkout, and it is a difficult feat to achieve. Its difficulty level is good news for us as it means that it is a market that always comes with high odds and a good profit, should you bet on one and it happens.

Handicap Betting

In a match of darts, just like with horse racing or in football or tennis, there will sometimes be a favourite with really short odds. This was something that would happen often when Phil Taylor was still on the circuit. Now, betting on an outcome with short odds is not really worth it because you will need to place a large wager in order to get any decent return. However, you can make the odds better by using the handicap option.

For instance, if Michael van Gerwen is playing against someone that he is very likely to beat, then you could decide to give him a three-leg disadvantage, which would mean that his opponent would have a theoretical three-leg head start. While this will lower the odds, you could still end up cashing in a win if they went on to lose the game.

European Championship of Darts Betting Tips

There are plenty of great tips that you can make use of whenever you are betting on darts events that can increase your chances of winning. Obviously, you are free to not use any tips if you like, but if you go down this route then you should not be too surprised if you start losing more wagers than you end up winning. Below we have provided you with some great betting tips that you should take on board when betting on the European Championship.

Select More Than One Player to Lift the Trophy

Backing one player to lift the trophy and then hoping that they go on to win is the traditional way of betting on a darts event. However, choosing a winner at the beginning of the event is a hard way to make any profit because just one bad game will see them eliminated from the competition, and you have to kiss goodbye to your wager. Thus, what we recommend is that you do some research and put your cash on two, three, or even four players to win the title - okay, if you win, you will land a smaller profit than if you just bet on one, but we believe that winning small amounts quite frequently is better than winning a big amount once in a blue moon.

Pay Attention to Head-to-Head

Bogey teams exist in football, and bogey players exist in darts. There will always be those players that one particular player always struggles against or always seems to beat, and by doing your research you can find out which players certain players always struggle against or beat and use it to your advantage. Throughout our website you will hear us talk about the importance of doing research, and we do not tell you this for the good of our own health.

There is Value in the 180s Betting Market

When it comes to prop bets, darts is a great sport. The common prop bets in darts include predicting the player with the highest checkout or guessing whether one of the players will land a 9-dart finish, but the prop bet, in our opinion, with the most value is predicting the player who will hit the most 180s in a game.

During a match, you will have two options for such a bet - Player A or Player B. The sportsbook that you have signed up with will usually favour the player that is deemed to be the favourite. However, the underdog can still come out on top in this market, even if they ultimately lose the match. Therefore, you should do some homework and look for those players that can score heavily, but often fail when under pressure to hit the double that will win them the leg.

Use the Accumulator Strategy

If you do not want to follow the whole tournament and just fancy a night of darts betting, then we recommend an accumulator strategy. With accumulators, also called accas, you need to try and guess the result of a number of games, and you will only win your bet if you get each selection right.

Sometimes, it will definitely not be worth your while to bet on one match because the odds that are on offer are too low. You really should not bet on a player to win a game if you need to place a big bet just to land a small profit. However, if you decide to bet on the winner of four matches, then all the odds will be multiplied together, and this can lead to some huge odds and big profits if your luck is in.

Top European Championship of Darts Free Bets Offers

When it comes to competitive industries, the world of sports betting is very competitive, and this is the reason why sports betting sites have to come up with various ways that make them more appealing to new gamblers than their rivals. If their rivals look more attractive, then obviously new punters will sign up with them instead. In such a competitive industry, it is vital that sportsbooks attract as many punters as possible.

One of the main ways that a sports betting site tries to outdo another is by offering bonuses that punters will not be able to turn down. In the following table, you will be able to find five bookmakers that offer what we believe are some of the best bonuses around at the moment.

n.b. With regards to bonuses and promotions, there is something that we feel is really important for us to stress and this is that sportsbooks change their bonuses quite frequently in order to stay a step ahead of the crowd. Thus, there is a chance that the offers we have just listed for you are not the ones available when you go to sign up. Also, with regard to bonuses, you need to take the time to read the T&Cs that apply since these will give you all of the important information that you need to know.

The Tournament Format

The top 32 ranked players on the European Tour Order of Merit qualify to take part in the PDC European Darts Championship. The rankings for the European Tour Order of Merit is based purely on prize money that was won by each player in the two other European tour events that take place during the season.

The players that qualify for the European Darts Championship are drawn into a fixed bracket according to where they are seeded. This means that the player that sits at the top of the rankings will take on the player that is 32nd in the list, while the second highest-ranked player will take on the 31st ranked player and so on. This is a pretty good way to do it in our opinion as it means that there is no need for a time-consuming draw.

The First Round

The first round is made up of 16 matches which are the best of 11 legs. This means that the first player to win six legs will win the match and advance to the next round. The loser is eliminated from the tournament.

Second Round and Quarter-Finals

The second round is made up of eight matches, and they are the best of 19 legs. This means that the player who reaches 10 legs first will advance to the quarter-finals, which are also the best of 19 legs.

Semi-Finals and Final

The semi-finals are the best of 21 legs, so the first player to win 11 legs will win the match and get to compete in the final for the chance to win the top prize of $120,000. The final is also the best of 21 legs.

Although we do not know the full list of players that will be playing in this tournament, there are some that we are pretty sure will be there, and we shall take a closer look at these now.

Joe Cullen

Joe Cullen sits at the top of the European Tour Order of Merit, and we do not think that he will drop down so much by October next year and miss out on competing at the 2022 edition. He has played in the PDC World Championship on nine occasions, and his best performance saw him get knocked out in the 4th round. He took part in the 2021 European Championship in 2021, and made it to the semi-finals, where he lost to Rob Cross, the eventual winner, 11-3. If he is playing at the 2022 edition, then he will be hoping to go at least one step further.

Gerwyn Price

Gerwyn Price started off his sports career as a rugby player before he decided to turn his attention to darts. Many thought that it was not a wise move, but he has since shown them. In 2021 he became the PDC World Darts Championship winner, making him the first player from Wales to claim this prestigious title. It also saw him jump to the top of the rankings. In 2021, he also made it to the semis of The Masters, UK Open, and the PDC World Cup of Darts.

Jose de Sousa

Jose de Sousa sits third on the European Tour Order of Merit, and we are pretty sure that he will be playing in the 2022 edition of the European Championship. He has played in the PDC World Championship tournament four times, with his best achievement being making it to the third round. In 2020, he got the win of his career when he won the Grand Slam of Darts. In the 2021 European Championship, he made it to the Quarter-Finals, where he was knocked out by Rob Cross. He will fancy his chances of making it to the at least the semi-finals next time around.

Previous Winners

We are now going to have a look at the previous winners of this tournament to see which players have had success in the past. If you happen to be a bit of a darts fan, then you will not be surprised to hear that Phil "The Power" Taylor has been one of the most successful players in this tournament. He has made it to the final four times and has picked up the trophy on four occasions. There is one player that can match him when it comes to titles won, and that is Michael van Gerwen as he has also picked up four trophies from five final appearances.

Rob Cross has won the title twice, while Simon Whitlock, Adrian Lewis, Peter Wright, and James Wade have all won it once. This means that England leads the way with eight titles, while the Netherlands has four and Australia and Scotland both have one.

By knowing which players who have had the most success in this competition, you can increase your chances of putting your money on a player that will have a decent chance of winning. You can find out more in the following table:
