There are many entertaining and huge darts events that are played across a calendar year, but there is one tournament that stands out from the rest when it comes to prestige and prize money, and this is the Premier League of Darts Betting. Just like the UEFA Champions League or the FIFA World Cup are two of the biggest and most prestigious trophies in the footballing world, the Premier League of Darts trophy is one that all the top players want to hold aloft at least once in their career. Not only is it a beautiful trophy, but the winner also earns himself a cheque for £275,000. We are now on Night 16 of the Premier League of Darts 2022, and below we are going to give you our predictions for the games as well as the overall winner.
💯 Odds for Overall Winner of the 2022 Premier League of Darts
Above we provided you with our opinion as to who we fee will win the Quarter-Final games on Night 16, and the player that we think will pick up a maximum of five points, so now we are going to have a look at who we think will go and lift the title on the 13th of June at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin.
⭐ Michael van Gerwen Odds
Michael van Gerwen had a really poor 2021, and he did not do as well as he would have liked in some of the competitions that have been played in 2022. This is the longest that he has been without a title, and he will be looking to put that right by winning the Premier League of Darts for the sixth time.
Despite his poor showings in other competitions, he has been doing quite well in the 2022 Premier League Darts, and has assured himself of a second place finish. This means that he will take on the player that finishes in third spot, which will be one of either Wade, Cullen, or Wright. At the time of writing, the sports betting sites have him as the favourite to win the title, and you can see the odds that they are offering in the table below:
2.63 | 2.60 | 2.62 | 2.75 | 2.62 | 2.60 |
⭐ Jonny Clayton Odds
While van Gerwen has had a previous 12 months or so to forget, we cannot say the same for Clayton since he picked up four titles in 2021. He managed to land wins in the The Masters, the World Series of Darts, and the World Grand Prix.
Heading into Night 16, Clayton sits at the top of the Premier League Darts table with 37 points to his name, and since van Gerwen has 31, there is no way he can be replaced at the top of the table. This means that he can play this final night with absolutely no pressure on him, and that he will take on the player that comes fourth in the table, which could be Wade, Cullen, or Wright.
Clayton won this title in 2021, beating Jose de Sousa in the final, and he will be quite confident that he can go on and win it once again. The bookmakers are giving him a really good chance of doing so as they have put him as the second favourite to win the title. In the table below, you can see the odds that the best bookies have on offer for him to retain his title.
3.25 | 3.35 | 3.25 | 3.10 | 3.25 | 2.60 |
⭐ James Wade Odds
James Wade lifted the UK Open last year, and he made it to the semis of the Grand Slam of Darts as well as the World Cup of Darts. Heading into Night 16, Wade has no pressure on his head as he has already booked himself a spot in the Play-Offs. If he wins his Quarter-Final match, then he will more than likely be playing van Gerwen in the Semi-Finals of the Play-Offs.
If you are tempted to bet on Wade to go on and win this title, then you can see the odds that the top bookies are offering in the following table.
5.50 | 5.50 | 5.50 | 5.50 | 5.50 | 5.50 |
⭐ Joe Cullen Odds
Joe Cullen had a really poor 2021, but he quickly put all of that behind him by lifting The Masters title at the start of 2022. Now that he has managed to get his first big title, he will be confident of adding more to his trophy cabinet, and will believe that he can get the results that are needed to qualify for the Premier League of Darts 2022 Play-Offs. It looked like he was down and out heading into Night 15, but he put in some stunning performances to and won to jump into the fourth and final Play-Off position. If he beats Peter Wright in the Quarter-Finals on Night 16, then he will qualify.
If you would like to bet on Cullen to win the 2022 Premier League Darts title, then what are the odds that are on offer for him to do so? Well, check out the table below to see for yourself:
10.00 | 9.75 | 9.00 | 9.00 | 10.00 | 9.00 |
⭐ Peter Wright Odds
Peter Wright is another player that can be very content with his performances over the last 12 months or so. In 2021, he lifted the trophy in the Players Championship Finals, the PDC World Cup of Darts, and the World Matchplay. Then he got his 2022 season of to a belter by winning the PDC World Championship trophy. Due to these wins, he is ranked as the best player in the world, although he has not yet won the Premier League Darts.
At this moment in time, he is sitting in the fifth spot in the table, and needs to beat Cullen in their Quarter-Final on Night 16 to book a spot in the Play-Offs. If he loses, then his competition will be over, and he will have to wait another year to try and win this title for the first time.
What type of odds are on offer for him to win? Well, check out the table below, and all will be revealed.
6.00 | 6.20 | 6.50 | 6.50 | 6.50 | 6.50 |
🎯 Night 16 Matches
Below we are going to take a look at the four Quarter-Final matches that are going to take place on Night 16 of the 2022 Premier League Darts. We are going to give you our opinion as to who will win each match, and pick up vital points on their quest to win this prestigious competition. Night 16 of this competition is going to be played at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle so, if you are going to be in the area and love watching live darts, be sure to try and pick up some tickets fora night of entertainment.
1️⃣ Jonny Clayton Vs Gary Anderson Prediction
The first match of Night 16 will see Jonny Clayton, who is sitting at the top of the table, will take on Gary Anderson, who has had a poor tournament and is sitting right at the foot of the table. If you check out the odds that are being offered by top sports betting sites, then you will see that they have Clayton as the firm favourite to go on and win this match. For instance, the likes of Ladbrokes, and William Hill have him at odds of 1.33 to win, while the same bookies have given Anderson odds of 3.50 and 3.30 to make it to the Semi-Finals.
So, what do we think will happen here? Do we think that this will be a walk in the park for Clayton and that he will seal his spot at the top of the table with a win? Or do we think that Anderson will defy the odds and get to end the tournament on some sort of high? Well, let us check the head-to-head record between the two players as this can help you to make a successful wager - sometimes one player will have some sort of psychological advantage over another and will always beat them.
In the last five years, they have played against each other on seven occasions, and the Welshman is leading the way with a score of 4-3. What has happened when these two players have met on previous nights of the 2022 Premier League Darts? Well, the two met on Night 6 and Anderson came out on top 6-5, but when they met again on Night 11, Clayton came out on top 6-2. They also met again on Night 13, and Clayton was the winner once more with a 6-4 scoreline.
With the above stats and previous results in mind, we think that the match will be closer than the bookies are imagining, but we would still back Clayton to come out on top and pick up another two points.
Our Jonny Clayton vs Gary Anderson match prediction: Jonny Clayton to win.
2️⃣ Joe Cullen Vs Peter Wright Prediction
The second match of the final Group Stage night sees Joe Cullen take on Peter Wright, and the bookies have Peter Wright as the favourite to win. This is actually a massive match because the winner will book himself a spot in the Play-Offs. Some of the top sports betting sites such as Unibet, William Hill, and Boyle Sports have Wright at odds of 1.73 to win the game, while the same bookies have given Cullen odds of 2.10 to win the match.
So, do we think that Wright will win this match and book his spot in the Play-Offs, or do we think that the Englishman will complete his comeback and book an unlikely spot in the final four? Well, let us first take a look at the head-to-head record that exists between this pair, shall we? Over the last five years, these two players have played each other on 13 occasions, and Wright has a score of 10 wins to 3. When it comes to results in this year's Premier League Darts, they have played each other three times, and Cullen has won two of them - they faced each other in the Semi-Final on Night 15, and Cullen won 6-1.
While the bookies might have Wright as the favourite to win the match, we actually think that the momentum is all with Cullen, and this is why we would put our money on him to win this all-important match.
Our Joe Cullen vs Peter Wright match prediction: Joe Cullen to win.
3️⃣ Michael van Gerwen Vs Michael Smith Prediction
The third match on Night 16 is the battle of the Michaels, with van Gerwen sitting in second place in the table and Smith sitting in 7th place, with no chance of making the Play-Offs. The bookies, quite unsurprisingly, have van Gerwen as the favourite to win this match. Top bookies such as Betway, and 888Sport have given the Dutchman odds of 1.44 to win, while the same bookies have given the Englishman odds of 2.75 to be victorious.
So, do we think that van Gerwen will make it through to the semis and live up to his billing as the favourite, or do we feel that Smith will cause some sort of upset. In the previous five years, these two players have taken on each other on 23 occasions, and van Gerwen has won 17 matches, while Smith has won six. When it comes to their head-to-head record in this year's Premier League of Darts, they have played each other on five occasions, and van Gerwen has won four of these games.
So, taking into account van Gerwen's dominance over Smith in recent years and in this competition this year, we would back the Dutchman to win the game and seal second spot for the Ply-Offs.
Our Michael van Gerwen vs Michael Smith match prediction: Michael van Gerwen to win.
4️⃣ James Wade Vs Gerwyn Price Prediction
The final Quarter-Final on Night 16 sees James Wade play Gerwyn Price, and since both of these players were knocked out in the first round on Night 15, neither can now qualify for the Play-Offs. In other words, both Wade and Price are now just playing for pride. The bookies make Price the favourite to win this match with bookies such as William Hill, BetFred, and Ladbrokes offering odds of 1.73 for him to win, while giving Wade odds of 2.20 to be victorious.
What is their head-to-head record like over the years? Well, in the last five years, they have met on 11 occasions and Wade has come out on top nine times. In this year's event, they have met five times, and Wade has won four of those matches. So, with all of the above in mind, we are not too sure why it is that the bookies have Price as the favourite to win the game. We are going to go against the bookies here, and put our money on Wade to make it through to the Semi-Finals.
Our James Wade vs Gerwyn Price match prediction: James Wade to win.
🏆 Overall Night 16 Winner
So, if our predictions above all turn out to be correct, then Jonny Clayton, Joe Cullen, Michael van Gerwen, and James Wade will be the four that will make it to the Semi-Finals on Night 16. If these assumptions of ours are correct, then the semis will see Clayton take on Cullen and van Gerwen take on Wade.
From such Semi-Final line-ups, who do we feel will go on and win and book a spot in the final on Night 16? Well, we feel that Clayton will beat Cullen and van Gerwen will beat Wade, which would mean that the final would be between the top two players in the table - Clayton and van Gerwen.
Such a final would not be an easy one to call but let us take a look at their head-to-head record over the last five years. Well, they have played each other 20 times in the last five years, and Clayton is leading the way with a score of 11 wins to 9. In this year's Premier League Darts, these two players have met on six occasions, and Clayton has won four of those matches.
It would be hard to predict a winner between these two, but we think that van Gerwen would show his class and would go on to win a hard-fought contest.
📑 Tournament Format
We are fully aware of the fact that there is a really good chance that there are some among us who are new to the world of darts betting, and this is the reason why we are now going to take a few minutes to speak about the 2022 Premier League of Darts format. Whenever you are betting on a sporting event, it is wise to check out the kind of format that is being used before you jump right in and start placing any kind of wagers. If you happen to be already familiar with the format that is being used in the Premier League of Darts 2022, then please do feel free to skip ahead to the following section.
At the beginning of 2022, the Professional Darts Corporation, also known as the PDC, told the darting world that the 2022 Premier League of Darts would be using a new format this year. Previous editions of this competition used to make use of a Round Robin format, but now it is played as a knockout format across 16 nights, with one night being played each week on a Thursday. Each of these nights is composed of seven matches which are the first to six legs.
For Nights 1 to 7, the players play against seven other players in what we can call Quarter-Finals. Then during Nights 9 to 15, they play these seven players once again. Nights 8 and 16 are different because the fixtures for these two nights will depend on where each player is sitting in the league table at that current moment in time.
What points are on offer for a win in this competition? Well, if a player manages to win their Quarter-Final game, then they will earn themselves two points. The player who finishes as the runner-up will pick themselves up three points, while the overall winner on the night will take home five points.
When all of the 16 nights have been played, the top four players in the table will go through to the Play-Offs, with the player that finishes first playing the player that finishes fourth, and the player that finishes second playing the one that comes third. Obviously, then, the two winners in these Semi-Final games will play against each other in the Final for the right to lift the amazing trophy and take home the huge cash prize.
🏅 The Competing Players in the 2022 Premier League of Darts
The previous editions of this tournament would see the top four darts players from the Professional Darts Corporation's Order of Merit, after the World Darts Championship has taken place, being joined by six other players who all received an invitation to play. However, at the start of this year, when the PDC told us that the tournament would be a knockout format, they also announced that there would only be eight players and not ten.
In February the eight players that would be playing in the 2022 Premier League of Darts was announced to the darts world, and the PDC declared that the Top Six from the PDC Order of Merit would be participating, and these six would be joined by two invitational players, and these were Joe Cullen and James Wade. In previous editions of this prestigious event, there was a relegation system and a Judgement Night, but these were removed from the 2022 edition of the event.
🎁 Bonus Offers to Use on Night 16

The sports betting world is a really competitive one, so sports betting sites try to out do each other by offering bonuses that catch the eye. All of the best betting sites will offer a variety of promos that you should make sure you keep a lookout for when betting on big events such as the 2022 Premier League of Darts. For example, we suggest that you keep a eye out for Odds Boosts because these give you the chance to win more money if you make a prediction and it comes true. Odds Boosts change daily and you can usually find them on the sportsbook's homepage, so make sure that you check them out every day. Additionally, when you are making accumulator bets, you need to check to see if there is Acca Insurance that you can claim - this means that if one selection loses your bet for you, you will receive your stake back in the form of a free bet.
When you are considering making use of bonuses and promos, always ensure that you read the T&Cs that apply. The terms and conditions are not the same from one bonus to the next, so it is vital that you read them closely so that you do not end up making a mistake that will see you forfeit your bonus.
Also, we must stress that bonuses change all the time as sportsbooks are always looking for new ways to ensure that things remain lovely and fresh, which means that there is the chance that if you opt to create an account with one of the bookmakers about that the Welcome Bonus has changed and is different to the one mentioned in the table. We do apologise if this happens to you, but we are pretty sure that whatever the new offer is that it will be as good, or even better. At the end of the day, a bookie is not going to replace a bonus with one that is worse as this would be pretty counterproductive.
🏁 Our Predicted Champion of the 2022 Premier League Darts
So, at this stage in the competition, there are five players that are still in with a chance of going on to win the title. There are three players who are already eliminated, and these are Price, Smith, and Anderson. The latter, if we are being honest, has been out of the running for a number of weeks now.
From the five players that can still go on to win, who do we think will lift the 2022 Premier League Darts title? Do we trust the bookmakers and feel that van Gerwen will win his sixth Premier League Darts trophy? Do we think that Clayton will defend the title that he won last year? Or do we believe that Cullen will defy all odds and win the title for the first time?
Well, we feel that the Semi-Final line-ups for the Play-Offs will see Clayton take on Cullen and van Gerwen take on Wade. From these potential line-ups in the semis, we believe that Clayton and van Gerwen would win, and we would then put our money on the Dutchman to win the final and lift the title for the sixth time.
Our outright winner: Michael van Gerwen.
