The previous format of this competition would see the top four darts players in the PDC Order of Merit, once the World Darts Championship has been played, be joined by six players that received an invitation to participate. However, at the start of 2022, when the PDC told the darts world that they were going to be using a new format, then also said that the number of players participating this year would drop from ten to eight.

The eight participants in the 2022 Premier League of Darts was announced at the beginning of February, and the PDC said that the participants would be the top six players from the PDC Order of Merit as well as Jonny Clayton and Joe Cullen. So, from the above eight players, who do we believe will win the 2022 Premier league of Darts? Do we believe that the bookmakers are correct and that van Gerwen will pick up his sixth title, or do we feel that Clayton will manage to defend the title that he won in 2021?

Well, after 12 nights of action, Clayton sits at the top of the Premier League of Darts table with 29 points, while van Gerwen is on his tail with 25 points. Something strange would need to occur in order for both van Gerwen and Clayton to not make the Play-Offs, while we believe that the other two spots will be claimed by Wade and Wright. If the positions remain as they are, then we believe that the final will be between van Gerwen and Clayton, and we believe that the Dutchman would edge the final and claim his sixth title.
