Free Munster Hurling Betting Tips
The 2026 Munster Championship is expected to be as pulsating and competitive as ever, so it will therefore offer fans some of the most exciting betting opportunities of the summer. With that in mind, below, we have listed some of our best Munster hurling championship betting tips & predictions that might prove useful as the Championship progresses this year.
- Tip 1 – Limerick to win the 2026 Munster Championship
Limerick missed out on a 7 in a row of Munster Championships on penalties to Cork last year, so they will be desperate to right that wrong, in their eyes, this year. John Kiely has refreshed his starting line-up with some newer faces, and it looked like it was working during their league run, where they had 5 wins from their 6 Division 1A games. They are due to face Cork a few weeks out from their opening Munster hurling championship match in the league final, which might give us another clue as to where they are so far this year.
To bet on Limerick winning another Munster title, you can get a price of 3.25 with Lunubet.
- Tip 2 – Cork to be crowned the 2026 Munster champions
Cork won their first Munster hurling championship since 2018 when they beat Limerick last year, so they will be looking to defend their crown this year. 2017-2018 was also the last time they won back-to-back Munster championships, so Ben O’Connor will have his team locked in ahead of what should be a huge challenge to retain the Mick Mackey Cup.
If you think they can do it, you can back Cork at odds of 3.00 with Scored sports to win another Munster title.
- Tip 3 – Limerick to win the 2026 All-Ireland Championship
The manner of their exit in last year’s championship to Dublin shocked many people, given the domination Limerick had over the competition for the 5 or 6 years before that. That meant something of a refresh for John Kiely, with the likes of Aidan O’Connor, Cathal O’Neill and Shane O’Brien now even more important members of the starting 15 for Limerick.
To back Limerick to win back the All-Ireland this year, you can get a price of 3.00 with Scored sports.
- Tip 4 – Cork to win the All-Ireland.
Cork has failed to get the job done in the last 2 All-Ireland finals, losing to Clare in 2024 and Tipperary in 2025. Ben O’Connor, a former All-Ireland winner with Cork as a player, is now in charge with the aim of bringing Liam McCarthy back to Leeside for the first time since 2005.
If you think Cork can finally get over the line and win their 31st All-Ireland title, you can get a price of 3.00 with Lunubet.
- Tip 5 – Aidan O’Connor to be the 2026 Munster Championship top scorer
Aidan O’Connor has taken over the frees for 2026 from Aaron Gillane, which has meant he has been to the fore for Limerick in the scoring stakes during the league. Limerick are expected to go well in Munster this season, and if they do, expect O’Connor to be right up there as one of his county’s most important players. Keep an eye out for fun Munster hurling betting markets such as the top scorer market when the competition gets into full swing from the end of April.

Outright Betting
The outright winner market is an ever-popular bet among hurling fans every year. With this bet you are trying to predict which county you think will win the Munster Championship. For example, if you think Cork will win the 2026 Munster Championship and you bet on them doing so and they win it, your bet will have been successful.
Over/Under Market
The over/under markets for the 2026 Munster Hurling Championship can account for goals, points or the combined tallies for both. It can also mean that you can bet on whether the amount of cards issued by a referee during a game will be over or under a preset amount fixed by each individual betting site.
Odd/Even Final Points Total
This is another popular Munster hurling betting market because of its simplicity and how fun it is to do. With the odd/even points total bet, all you have to do is select whether you think the combined points tally of both teams at the end of a match is going to be an even number or an odd number. An example of this bet is if you gambled on the final points tally in a Limerick v Tipperary match being even, but the final score was 2-26 – 0-25, you would lose your bet because the final points tally is 57.
Handicap Betting
Handicap betting can be an extremely popular betting tool for fans of hurling betting. Handicap betting is theoretically supposed to balance out a match where there is a perceived gulf in quality between the two teams. This is done by awarding points head starts to the weaker team, and points deficits to the perceived stronger team. An example of this in Munster hurling would be a match between Waterford and Limerick. A handicap bet would seek to offer Waterford an advantage to make it a more interesting match to bet on for punters.
Total Points Over/Under
The over/under total points market gives bettors the opportunity to bet on whether they think the total combined points scored by both teams during a match will be either over or under the points threshold preset by the betting site. For example, if a bookmaker sets a points tally of 50.5 for a match between Cork and Limerick and you think more will be scored, you can bet on over 50.5 points being scored. If 51 points are scored, you will win your bet.

History of the Munster Hurling Championships
The Munster Senior Hurling Championship is an annual provincial hurling competition played out as part of the GAA All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. It has been played annually since 1888 and is organised by the Munster Council of the wider GAA organisation. Between 1888 and 2017, the competition had a straight knockout format before it changed to a round-robin league format in 2018. Cork has been the most successful county in the history of the competition, winning 55 titles and reaching the final on another 30 occasions. Recently, however, Limerick has become the dominant force in Munster, winning 6 of the last 7 titles, with Cork ending their run for 7 consecutive championships in 2025.
Munster Championship Format
Since 2018 the Munster Senior Hurling Championship has had a round-robin league-style format. In the Championship, the five counties taking part, Limerick, Cork, Clare, Waterford and Tipperary, play each other once. Two points are awarded for a match win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss. When all five teams have played one another, they are then ranked in a league table. The top two teams go on to compete in the Munster hurling final, while in a change to this year’s championship, the team in third place will now take on the Leinster Championship runners-up in a quarter-final tie, with the 3rd team in Leinster taking on the Munster runner-up.
Past Munster Championships Winners
Cork is the most successful county in Munster Championship history, winning 55 Munster titles, including the 2025 title. Tipperary are next with 42 titles, followed by Limerick with 25, then Waterford with 9, followed by Clare with 6, and Kerry, who play in the Christy Ring Cup, with a solitary win in 1891.
