Below you will find our in-depth predictions for all of this weekend's Allianz National Hurling League encounters. In Division 1A Kilkenny host Limerick while in Division 1B Laois host Carlow in an all Leinster encounter. Elsewhere in Division 2 Meath host Down and in Division 3 Cavan host Armagh in an all Ulster clash.

Kilkenny vs Limerick Prediction - TG4, 3.30pm Saturday 15 March, Nowlan Park

Limerick travel to Kilkenny in the only Division 1A hurling encounter of the coming weekend. Limerick have played a game less than Kilkenny in this campaign so far but still find themselves ahead of the hosts in the standings. Kilkenny are currently in 6th place on 4 points while Limerick are in 5th place on 5 points. A win for either side would propel them into the race for the Division 1A title, while a defeat for either side could see them dragged into a relegation fight.

The sides met in the league semi final last season and it was Kilkenny who were the surprising victors on a scoreline of 3-17 to 1-15. Limerick look stronger than Kilkenny so far in this league campaign, picking up 2 wins and a draw in their opening four games with just one defeat, while Kilkenny have 2 wins and 3 defeats in their opening 5 games. Limerick also have a stronger score difference of +13 whereas Kilkenny’s is -5. We are predicting a Limerick win on Saturday in Nowlan Park.

Verdict: LIMERICK TO WIN.

Laois vs Carlow Prediction - 13:45pm Saturday 15 March , O’Moore Park

Carlow’s promotion chances were dealt a major blow last weekend when they were defeated by Dublin. Carlow will need to win their last two games and get help from elsewhere if they are to get promoted to Division 1A. It is highly unlikely that they will be in Division 1A next year but they will still give it all until the end including this match in Portlaoise on Saturday. If Carlow are defeated by Laois then they will be brought back into the relegation fight alongside Laois.

A win for Laois will put them on the same amount of points as Carlow, so this game is crucial for both sides. Carlow will be the more fancied team for this one even as the away side and should have too much for Laois. Carlow were victorious when the sides last met in the league last year, winning on a scoreline of 1-23 to 0-21 and we believe Carlow will once again be victorious this Saturday.

Verdict: Carlow to win.

Meath vs Down Predictions - 13:30pm Saturday 15 March, Trim

Down currently top Division 2 and a win over Meath on Saturday will guarantee promotion to Division 1B for next season. Down have 5 wins out of 5 in the Allianz National Hurling League this season with a score difference of +73. They have been the dominant force of Division 2 this year and look set to be promoted to Division 1B for next season. Meath have played a game less than Down, which is why Down’s promotion is not yet guaranteed. Meath have 2 wins and 2 defeats in their four games this season and have a less impressive score difference of +3.

Down will be eager to guarantee promotion this weekend as they will then be able to rest players in the final matchday before a potential League final. Down have shown great strength this season and we expect them to get the victory on Saturday.

Verdict: Down to win.

Cavan vs Armagh Predictions - 12:00pm Saturday 15 March, Breffni Park

The quality of teams in Division 3 of the Allianz National Hurling League would of course not be the same as those in the better divisions but the drama isn’t any less intriguing for this all Ulster hurling clash. Cavan come into this game with a slim chance of getting promoted to Division 2 for next season with them currently being on 4 points, 4 points behind 2nd place Mayo. They must also look over their shoulder because a defeat to Armagh will see them in the relegation battle.

Armagh currently sit in the bottom 2 that would see them relegated to Division 4. Armagh have 2 points and a win in Breffni Park would put them level on points with Cavan, although they would likely still stay in the bottom 2 because of their inferior score difference, with both Roscommon and Cavan ahead of them boasting a much stronger score difference. A defeat for Armagh would see them likely face the drop, making this match a very interesting and intriguing encounter.

Although the match will not have the quality of some of the others this weekend like Kilkenny versus Limerick, there is no shortage of drama in this one. We expect Cavan to have too much for Armagh and get the victory that keeps their promotion hopes just about alive.

Verdict: Armagh to win.
