Kildare welcome Galway to St Conleth’s Park, Newbridge, for their Leinster Senior Hurling Championship Round 3 meeting on Saturday, May 9th, at 15:30 GMT. The away side will head to Newbridge looking to seal top spot in the table by claiming their third consecutive win of the championship. Kildare, meanwhile, will be hoping for their first win of the season with Brian Dowling’s team suffering defeats to Wexford and Dublin in Rounds 1 and 2.
In this preview to this Round 3 clash in the Leinster Hurling Championship we will give you some Kildare v Galway betting tips as well as our very own Kildare v Galway prediction as we look forward to the match on May 9th.
🏆 Kildare vs Galway
There really should be only one winner in this one, and that’s the travelling Galway side. Micheál Donoghue’s team have made an unbeaten start to the championship, and we fully expect that to continue in Kildare. With that in mind, our Kildare v Galway match prediction is for a comfortable Galway win to seal a third straight win in this year’s championship.
This Galway side has already accounted for Kilkenny and Offaly by 15 and 11 points, respectively, in their opening 2 rounds, hitting 5-51 in the process, and quite simply will have far too much firepower for a Kildare side battling to survive in this year’s Leinster Championship. They beat Offaly by 11 in Round 2 but will have come off the pitch in Galway a bit disappointed, given the fact that they missed a series of goal chances and fired 19 wides against the Faithful County. That has left Micheál Donoghue with work to do with his team ahead of this tie in terms of their efficiency, which, if they have put right, could be bad news for Kildare on May 9th.
Kildare reached the Leinster Championship this year after a 22-year wait and made a brave return against Wexford in Round 1, sticking with them until the closing quarter when Wexford pulled away. They were less competitive against Dublin in Round 2, with Dublin stamping their authority on that game midway through the first half.
Kildare face a battle to stay in the Leinster Championship, with their game against Offaly on May 24th now looking like their only chance of halting their immediate return to the Joe McDonagh Cup. They should give a good account of themselves again in front of their home fans but should be no match for a Galway side gunning for their first Leinster title since 2018.

- Tip 1: Galway to Win: After their fast start, Galway will be desperate to win Leinster for the first time in 8 years, and this should be just another step along the way towards a Leinster Final appearance on June 6th. They should have far too much for Kildare, with the Tribesmen hitting 5-51 already in their opening two games. They have also left plenty of scores behind them, so they have work to do ahead of their remaining games in this year’s Leinster Championship. A routine win looks on the cards for Galway, their third consecutive win this season.
To back Galway, you can currently get a price of 1.04 with BoyleSports.
- Tip 2: Rory Burke to score a goal anytime: Burke has had a fantastic start to his senior Galway career in this year’s Leinster Championship so far. Burke has already hit 3-4 in his two matches against Kilkenny and Offaly and should get plenty of chances to add to that tally in Newbridge.
- Tip 3: Galway HT/FT: We expect Galway to be in full control of this game from start to finish. As usual when a big team visits a smaller side, if they can get over the early onslaught by the smaller team, they should take control, and that is what we expect in this game from Galway. They should be able to cope with that possible early wave from Kildare and then stamp their authority on this game. Such is the difference between the teams, it would be a shock if Galway are not ahead at half-time and ready to see out the win in the 2nd period.
✔️ Kildare Squad Form
As we have said, Kildare returned to the Leinster Championship this year as a result of winning the 2025 Joe McDonagh Cup. An instant return to that competition looks on the cards for Brian Dowling’s team after defeats to Wexford and Dublin and an expected loss to Galway in this game on May 9th. That will leave them with matches against Kilkenny and Offaly to try and get the win that could secure their spot in Leinster next year.
📈 Galway Squad Form
Galway have begun the 2026 Leinster Championship with 2 commanding wins over Kilkenny and Offaly. If they win, as they are expected to do so in Kildare, they will have 6 points from 3 matches, with 2 games against Dublin and Wexford left to play to seal their spot in this year’s Leinster final.

✒️ Kildare vs Galway - H2H Stats
When we try and look for Kildare v Galway stats, they are hard to come by, as the sides have met so infrequently in championship hurling over the years. They did play in the 1980 All-Ireland quarter-final, which Galway won on their way to the All-Ireland Championship win that year. Galway joined the Leinster Championship in 2009, but this is the first year the two sides will play in the provincial championship since.
