Serie A remains one of the world’s most iconic and romanticised football leagues, thanks largely to its halcyon period between the late 1980s and the turn of the century. Even today, Serie A is the second-most watched football league globally (behind the English Premier League), with an estimated 2.5 billion viewers tuning in worldwide every single season on average. Unsurprisingly, Serie A football betting is also incredibly popular, so here’s my complete football betting guide to the relevant wagering markets and latest odds!

🔝 Serie A Top Goal Scorer Odds

Napoli’s explosive striker Victor Osimhen topped the 2022/23 Serie A top scorers’ chart with 26 goals, as he fired Napoli to an historic Scudetto. He has started this season with a bang too, but which other players will compete for the Golden Boot in Serie A?

🔍 Serie A Football Betting Tips

While these markets are incredibly popular, it can be hard to identify genuine value and realise the potential of your stake amount. Fortunately, I’ve prepared some insightful Serie A betting tips to help you on your way!

Back Milan for the Title

The last three Serie A campaigns have produced three different champions, after Juventus’ run of nine consecutive Scudettos was brought to an end by Inter in 2020/21. Even though Napoli was largely dominant in winning their first Serie A title for 33 years, they’ve since been weakened by the loss of influential centre back Min-jae Kim, with Inter having been made as the narrow favourites to prevail in 2023/24. However, I’m tipping Milan to claim a 20th Scudetto this season at an average price of 4.33. Make no mistake; the Rossoneri have bought well during the summer (forwards Christian Pulisic and Samuel Chukwueze are particularly exciting signings), while retaining the services of talismanic winger Rafael Leao could prove seminal.

Back Martinez Each Way for the Golden Boot

While there are many Italy Serie A predictions and Serie A bets pertaining to the identity of the top scorer in Italy, this is another market that’s incredibly difficult to call. While last seasons’ winner Victor Osimhen is the short price favourite for 2023/24, there’s little value in backing the Nigerian striker, so I’d instead recommend backing Inter’s Lautaro Martinez each way at around 3.50. He already jointly tops the scoring charts with three goals in three games, while he has plundered 82 goals in 175 Serie A matches and was the second highest scorer last season.

Bet on Verona to be Relegated

Hellas Verona has started the 2023/24 campaign well, winning their first two games including an opening day victory at Empoli. However, this was only Verona’s third win on the road in 22 outings dating back to 2021/22, while they only salvaged their status as a Serie A side after beating Spezia 3-1 in a relegation playoff match. The side also ended last season with just two wins in eight games, but their positive start this time around has seen their odds of being relegated lengthen to a highly competitive 3.50 with LegendPlay. So, I’d recommend getting on this while you can, as Verona is still among the sides who will struggle over the course of the campaign.

💻 Best Serie A Betting Sites

Before you engage in Italian football betting, it’s crucial that you identify the best and most reputable betting sites. Here’s my take on the best Italian Serie A betting sites and what they have to offer!

BoyleSports is the Best Betting Site for Serie A Free Bets

BoyleSports-banner

I’ll start with BoyleSports, which is currently running an exceptional promotion across all Serie A and big five league games. More specifically, the site will payout match betting picks as winners if they build a two-goal lead at any point in the game, regardless of the final result. This offers significant value, especially when combined with the operator’s focus on guaranteed odds.

At BoyleSports, new customers can also access a free bet worth up to €50 when you stake €10 at odds of 2.00 or higher. Your free bets can be used on any qualifying Serie A betting market, while you can learn more about the site by reading this BoyleSports Review. You can also claim the welcome offer here.

LegendPlay is the Best Site for In-Play Serie A Wagering

legendplay-banner

LegendPlay is a relative newcomer to the Irish sports betting market, and it arguably lacks in terms of live streaming and its total range of betting markets. However, it compensates for the former by offering insightful virtual fields of play, while combining these with live stats and analysis for more informed in-play betting.

LegendPlay also looks to rewards new customers with a generous welcome offer, which comprises a 100% deposit match up to the value of €250. Just wager €10 at minimum odds of 1.50 to qualify, and read this detailed LegendPlay Review to learn the full T&Cs before claiming the offer here!

Betway is the Best Betting Site for Serie A Wagering Markets

betway-banner

Betway is a huge name in Ireland and Europe, and one that’s best known for offering in excess of 30,000 betting markets across its various sporting categories. These include football and Serie A, which are heavily represented at Betway and can be accessed using the site’s ‘Free Bet Club’ (which rewards you with two weekly €5 wagers when you bet €25 or more during the previous seven days).

Betway’s welcome bonus also takes the form of a generous cash back offer, up to the value of €50. Simply bet between €10 and €50 at odds of 1.50 or greater, and if your wager is unsuccessful, Betway will refund the equivalent amount to your free bet balance. Read this Betway Review to learn more, or click here to claim the offer directly.

William Hill is the Best Betting Site for Live Streaming Serie A Matches

william-hill-banner

William Hill is arguably the best all-round site for betting on Serie A, while it particularly excels in the field of live streaming. Incredibly, the sportsbook live streams up to 60,000 sports events every single year, including selected Serie A games. There’s even a William Hill radio station you can enjoy, which provides further insight and commentary to help inform your bets.

The full terms and conditions of the operator’s welcome offer are detailed in this William Hill review, but the bonus comprises three separate €10 free bets when you stake at least €10 at 1.50 or higher. The total value of the bonus here is €30, and you can click here to claim this directly.

PalmSlots Sports is the Best Betting Site for Ante Post Wagering on Serie A

palm-slots-banner

Because the 2023/24 Italy Serie A campaign is likely to be close and keenly contested, you’ll need all the data and information that you can to make informed bet selections. This is where PalmSlots Sports comes in, as it combines detailed form and head-to-head data with virtual fields of play to help you execute optimal ante post or in-play wagers.

Like LegendPlay, this operator is also offering a generous welcome offer that comprises a 100% first deposit match up to the value of €200. While wagering requirements of 16x the bonus value are applied (you can check the full T&Cs in this PalmSlots Sports review), this is a highly competitive offer that can be claimed here!

📈 Serie A Betting Markets

My earlier Serie A tips were based on the league’s most popular betting markets and wager types, so I’m going to break these down in more detail below.

Outright Winner

When betting on the outright Serie A winner, you’re backing the team who you think will top the table at the end of the season. This is the most popular type of outright betting, while similar, even money wagers exist in the form of relegation betting and backing particular teams to finish in the top four.

Totals: Over/Under bets

Over/under betting is a form of totals wagering, where sportsbooks set virtual thresholds in relation to a specific event, such as the number of goals that will be scored in a game. You’ll then have to decide whether the actual total will be over or under this threshold, creating another even money wager that offers particular value if you have knowledge of the competing sides.

If you bet weekly on Italian football league matches, you may also be interested in accumulator betting. This enables you to combine multiple match picks (between four and 20) in a single wager, in which the individual prices are multiplied together to create extended odds. All of your picks must be successful for the wager to come in, which is why you need to be selective when building accas and prioritise short price favourites where possible.

Match Winner

Accumulators are an extension of match betting, which requires you to pick the winner of selected Serie A games. This isn’t quite an even money market as the draw is always in play, with around 27% of all Serie A matches ending in ties each season. Once again, you can use knowledge and insight to navigate this market or use handicapping to create additional value in odds.

📄 Serie A Competition Format

Like all other Big Five European leagues, Serie A uses a round-robin format in which each competing team plays each other home and away during a nine-month season. In total, there are 20 competing sides who play 38 matches, with three points awarded for a win and one in instances where two teams draw.

The team that accumulates the most points will win the league. At the same time, the two sides with the lowest points tallies are relegated to the second tier of the Italian League (Serie B), while the side that finishes third bottom will enter into a relegation playoff with the third placed second division team.

🔄 Serie A Transfers

Back in the 1990s and early noughties, Italian football was the place to go for the world’s most talented footballers, while clubs like AC Milan and Inter would spend lavishly and regularly break the world transfer record. So, while the Italian transfer record remains Juventus’ €117 million signing of Cristiano Ronaldo in 2018, the halcyon days of Serie A spending are long gone.

Even this summer, Serie’s highest spenders are AC Milan, whose total outlay of €114 million is less than Premier League outfit Chelsea spent on the Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo alone. Defending champions Napoli are the only other side to spend more than €100 million (€104 million), while the respective net spend for each team is just €45 million and €41 million.

Elsewhere, ante post Serie A favourites Inter have invested just €64.25 million in new recruits while recouping €132.25 million through player sales. So, they’ve banked a profit of €68.00 million during the window, highlighting the dwindling purchasing power of Serie A clubs and the lure of alternative big five leagues like the big money EPL and La Liga.

Regardless, it’s important that you review the continual arrivals and departures between now and the cessation of the summer transfer window on September 1st (and during the upcoming winter window). These moves can have a key bearing on the outcome of matches and outright betting markets, so they should be factored into your picks.

⭐ Serie A Past Winners

The Italian top-flight started out life as the ‘Campionato Italiano di Football’, with Genoa winning five of the first six titles between 1898 and 1903. The division came to be known as Serie A ahead of the 1929/30 season, with the now defunct Ambrosiana-Inter emerging as the first Serie A winners and claiming their third title overall during the campaign.

Juventus lead the way in terms of Serie A titles, winning 36 in total since 1905. This included a sequence of nine successive titles between 2011 and 2020, while Inter and Milan have won 19 each. Then came Genoa with nine titles (the last of which came in 1924), while Napoli claimed their third Scudetto in 2022/23.
