Leipzig have been relatively consistent this season, winning 13 and drawing just two of their 21 matches in all competitions in 2023/24. Overall, they’ve won 61.90% of their matches, while their 3-0 win over Bayern Munich back in August saw them claim the maiden trophy of the season in the form of the DFL-Supercup. I’ve already touched on attacking midfielder Xavi Simmons too, who’s key to Leipzig’s attacking output and contributed two assists and 6.32 shot-creating actions per 90 in the competition so far (in addition to his two goals).

Leipzig remain without centre back Willi Orban, who continues his recovery from a torn lateral knee ligament. Forward Dani Olmo will also miss out with aromioclavicular joint dislocation, while he’s not expected to return until December 21st. Timo Werner is also suffering from adductor pain and will face a late fitness test.

Young Boys currently sit top of the Swiss Super League, having won nine of their 16 league matches so far and recently moved two points clear of FC Zürich. However, they’ve only won one of their previous three league games, while their overall record in 2023/24 has yielded 14 wins in 26 matches (at a win rate of 53.85%), seven draws and five defeats. Interestingly, Raphaël Wicky’s men are much stronger at home than they are on the road, with their record of six wins in 13 away matches including three victories against lower league domestic opposition in the Swiss Cup.

The potential loss of Cedric Itten to injury could be a huge blow for Young Boys, with no date yet given for the striker’s return. 18-year-old right winger Malik Deme is also a huge doubt with an unknown injury, while left-sided midfielder Kastriot Imeri remains out with a torn lateral knee ligament.
