The Punchestown Gold Cup is the centrepiece of the five-day extravaganza that brings down the curtain on the National Hunt season in Ireland. Galopin Des Champs may have lost his mantle at Cheltenham last month, but can he put behind him some painful Punchestown Festival losses to end the season on a high? Our Punchestown Gold Cup betting tips are below, and we have the latest odds and free bets offers as punters weigh up their options for peerless Punchestown.
🏆 Punchestown Gold Cup Prediction
Galopin Des Champs has struggled at the Punchestown Gold Cup, having been defeated by Fastorslow in the last two editions of this race. The two-time defending champ misses the race now with an injury, leaving Galopin Des Champs headlining the Punchestown Gold Cup favourites 2025 with the best betting sites as the countdown to this race intensifies.
This race often produces a shock winner. Galopin Des Champs has never quite looked at ease running at Punchestown in comparison to elsewhere, and Spillane's Tower could be the one to upset him now. Jimmy Mangan's star has skipped Cheltenham and Aintree and comes here as a fresh horse. He was ahead of the Galopin Des Champs in the John Durkan back in November. Our Punchestown Gold Cup prediction is for Spillane's Tower to repeat that dose now.
OUR PREDICTION: 🏆 SPILLANE'S TOWER TO WIN 🏆
🏇 Punchestown Gold Cup Betting Preview
Galopin Des Champs headlines the Punchestown Gold Cup runners once more, but he has tried and failed to win this race twice before. He surrendered his Gold Cup crown in Cheltenham last month. Perhaps his time as the best staying chaser in horse racing is coming to an end. For that reason, he is not featuring in our tips for the Punchestown Gold Cup. Before you bet on the Punchestown Festival, why not check out our extensive bookmaker reviews section. It is an excellent guide to finding the best value for your upcoming bets.
1️⃣ Spillane's Tower / Jimmy Mangan
Spillane's Tower would be a hugely popular Punchestown Gold Cup winner for veteran Cork-based trainer Jimmy Mangan. The JP McManus-owned runner won four times last season as a novice, including over this course and distance in the Champion Novice Chase at this meeting. Ground concerns prevented him from running at Aintree recently, but he should get some give underfoot now. He ran as well as might have been expected in the King George at Christmas, given how the race panned out. A repeat of November's John Durkan run will make him a big danger, and he's 3.50 at Paripesa, making his Punchestown Gold Cup odds an appealing proposition.
2️⃣ Monty's Star / Henry De Bromhead
Henry De Bromhead saw Monty's Star finish fourth in the Gold Cup at Cheltenham last month, and he'll hope he can better that effort now. He was beaten less than eight lengths in the Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown in February and perhaps didn't see out the extra distance at Cheltenham just as well as many had forecast. He was less than a length behind Spillane's Tower when they clashed here last season and returns with a puncher's chance of upsetting the Punchestown Gold Cup odds at 11.00 at William Hill.
3️⃣ Banbridge / Joseph O'Brien
Banbridge didn't appear to get home in the Gold Cup last time, and perhaps easing back in trip will aid the King George winner. He wouldn't be the first winner of that Kempton Grade 1 that failed to see out the extra quarter-of-a-mile in the Cotswolds. Banbridge is unbeaten in two starts at Punchestown previously, including winning the Champion Chase here last season. This race looks to be his main end-of-term target. He's best priced at 5.00 at William Hill and is a key player on paper.
