🏆 My Irish Grand National Prediction

The ante post Irish Grand National odds make French runner Haiti Couleurs the current favourite at around 7.00. I'm also predicting that the eight-year-old gelding will prevail, particularly given his record of three wins in four steeplechase outings over three miles or more.

This included a superb victory in the Class 2 Princess Royal National Hunt Challenge Cup Novices' Handicap Chase at Cheltenham last time out, when he triumphed by four-and-a-half lengths from Rock My Way. He also raced prominently and led from three fences out here, and runners with an ability to lead from the front tend to fare particularly well at FairyHouse.

Of course, just three starting favourites have won the Irish Grand National in the previous 20 race renewals, so it's important to analyse the entire field before wagering your hard-earned cash.

1️⃣ Haiti Couleurs

Starting my tips for the Irish Grand National is Haiti Couleurs. Not only does Haiti Couleurs boast a 75% win-rate over three miles or more, but he has placed in the top three in nine of his 10 career hurdle and steeplechase outings to date. Three of his four steeplechase victories have been in good or good-to-soft going too, while he'll encounter similar conditions at Fairyhouse.

This Rebecca Curtis-trained runner is in outstanding form too, having placed in each of his previous seven races since February 2024. He has also recently achieved a peak OR of 135 after an excellent run at Newbury in February and offers obvious value as an outright or each-way pick at a price of around 7.00.

2️⃣ Better Days Ahead

Better Days Ahead is priced at a competitive 13.00 to be crowned the Irish Grand National winner this year. This bay gelding is definitely the right age to challenge at Fairyhouse, with five of the last 10 winners aged seven when they crossed the finishing line. He's also trained by Gordon Elliott, who has fielded one winner and an impressive nine placed finishers in the last 20 Irish Nationals.

Better Days Ahead has placed in the top three in each of his four career steeplechase outings. This sequence included a third-place run in the Grade 1 Brown Advisory Novices' Chase at Cheltenham in March, which saw him achieve a career-high OR of 152. Better Days Ahead is certainly a viable each-way pick, although its odds may shorten ahead of the event.

3️⃣ High Class Hero

High Class Hero is trained by Willie Mullins, who has been the most successful trainer across the previous 20 Irish Grand National iterations (recording two wins and 10 placed finishes during this time). Mullins has also recorded 139 victories from 539 outings at Fairyhouse since 2020, achieving an impressive win-rate of 26% in the process.

An eight-year-old gelding, High Class Hero placed second in the Grade 3 Pierce Molony Memorial Novice Chase at Thurles last time out. This followed a comfortable win at the QuinnBet Beginners Chase on February 20th, although it should be noted that the runner has only won once over three miles during his career. Still, he's in decent form and offers good value as a potential each-way pick ahead of the Irish National, or you can back him outright if you have any free bets available.
