⚡ RYBO Handicap Hurdle Preview

Irish Grand National RYBO Handicap Hurdle Betting logo

I’m going to offer some RYBO Handicap Hurdle betting tips later in this guide, but first let’s take a look at the key runners in this years’ race. This should help to inform your outright bet selections, while you wait for the ante post odds to be published in full!

1️⃣ Magnor Glory

I’ll start with the impressive seven-year-old gelding Magnor Glory, who will represent the Terence O’Brien stable in the 2023 RYBO Handicap Hurdle. While this runner has one won four of the 14 hurdle races or steeplechases he has contested to date (and placed once), three have come in his last five outings dating back to April 2022. He won impressively at Ballinrobe and Killarney last year, for example, while also prevailing in his last outing at the Grade 2 Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle in September. Interestingly, he beat fellow RYBO Handicap contender Fils D’Oudairies by three lengths at Listowel, despite a starting price of 16/1. Make no mistake; he’s almost certain to start among the favourites at Fairyhouse and is a key frontrunner among the best betting sites.

2️⃣ Fils D’Oudairies

The eight-year-old gelding Fils D’Oudairies is trained by Gordon Elliott, while he will also enter the RYBO Handicap Hurdle in relatively good form. To put this into context, he won the Anton O'Toole Hurdle at Leopardstown in his last hurdle outing on March 5th, prevailing by more than three lengths from Saint Sam in a field of five. While this was just his second hurdle win in eight career outings to date, he also enjoyed a relatively competitive 2022, placing second at Listowel in September last year and fifth in a field of 20 in the Grade 2 BoyleSports Handicap Hurdle in July. His run at Galway saw him place well despite a starting price of 11/1, while confirming that he can compete over longer steeplechase distances and is a solid each-way bet.

3️⃣ Little Mixup

Little Mixup is another fascinating RYBO Handicap Hurdle runner, and one whose three National Hunt career wins have also come in his last five outings dating back to December 2022. This talented six-year-old gelding has certainly been busy of late, with trainer Denis Hogan having overseen impressive victories at Limerick, Punchestown at Naas since Christmas and watched his horse perform particularly well over two miles or longer. At the Spring Festival Trials at Naas Handicap Hurdle in February he won superbly, defying a starting price of 22/1 by ousting Wajaaha by five lengths from Wajaaha (who will also be in contention for the RYBO Handicap). At the very least, Little Mixup offers value as an each-way bet!

4️⃣ Captains Nephew

Last, but not least, I’ll come to Captains Nephew, with this Philip Rothwell-trainer runner expected to be competitively priced to win the RYBO Handicap Hurdle. After all, this six-year-old chestnut gelding has won just one of six hurdle races during his career, also placing third at Thurles back in December. Once again, however, his sole win came in his last outing in the Derrygrath Maiden Hurdle at Clonmel in February, when he prevailed by a whopping 18 lengths from ante post favourite Clodders Dream. Incredibly, he won despite being an outsider at 17/2, and overcame a competitive field to record his maiden career triumph. So, he’s a genuine contender for the RYBO Handicap Hurdle, and while carry a shorter price this time around, he’s still likely to offer value as an outright contender.

⭐ RYBO Handicap Hurdle Betting Tips

In truth, none of the RYBO Handicap runners are likely to be dominant or odds-on favourites to win, with this race likely to be one of the most keenly contested at Fairyhouse this Easter weekend. So, to help you make sense of the markets and place informed wagers, I’ve prepared some RYBO Handicap Hurdle tips for the 2023 race!

✔️ Take a Look at the Previous Winners

Form and historical performance plays a key role in informing your wagers, across all sports betting categories. So, in addition to appraising each RYBO Handicap Hurdle runner’s recent form over relevant distances and in similar going, I’d also recommend taking a peak at the race’s previous winners and contenders. This will highlight which horses have experience of the course and competing in a similar field, while also helping you to identify any RYBO Handicap Hurdle Winners who may be running again. Take Glan, for example, who won the race in 2022 and will be looking to defend his crown this time around despite his relatively patchy form of late.

✔️ Consider Betting Early On

While I’m still waiting for the ante post RYBO Handicap Hurdle odds to be published for 2023, it’s recommended that you bet as early as possible when looking to back outright winners and even each-way runners. The reason for this is simple; as the listed prices are likely to drift almost as soon as they’ve been published and sportsbooks begin to receive an influx of wagers on particular runners. So, if you’re interested in engaging in RYBO Handicap Hurdle betting, keep your eyes peeled for the ante post odds and place your bets as soon as possible. This should unlock the best value for money and optimise your potential returns if your selection (or selections) come in!

✔️ Place Bets on Multiple Races

While it’s easy to become preoccupied with RYBO Handicap Hurdle trends and the relevant form of the competing runners, you should remember that this is one of 23 high quality races to be contested at Fairyhouse over the three-day Easter festival. Other high-profile races include the coveted Irish Grand National and the Irish Grand National Gold Cup, both of which are popular and lucrative events that are run over similar distances and on different days of the meeting. So, in order to maximise the value of your bankroll and ensure that you identify the best value odds, be sure to take a look at the runners and riders in these races and their latest prices. Just remember that if youdo place multiple bets over the course of the Fairyhouse Easter Festival, it’s important to remain within the boundaries of your bankroll and avoid spending more than you can afford to lose!

🏆 RYBO Handicap Hurdle 2023 Favourites to Win

You’ll have to wait for the 2023 RYBO Handicap Hurdle results to come in before you can accurately identify the winner, and there’s no doubt that this is one of the most difficult races to call at this years’ RYBO Handicap Hurdle.

After all, there’s no dominant or obvious favourite, while a number of the horses are coming onto the race on the back of impressive victories. Interestingly, this number doesn’t include 2022 winner Glan, with Gordon Elliott’s eight-year-old pulling up last time out in September and in the midst of a winless run dating back to April last year.

Magnor Glory will certainly fancy his chances of success, however, with Terence O’Brien’s seven-year-old having prevailed in three of his last five National Hunt outings. This included a superb run at the Grade 2 Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle in Listowel last September, where he saw off a spirited challenge from fellow RYBO Hurdle runner Fils D’Oudairies. These two geldings may well resume this rivalry on Saturday, and I’m tempted to make Magnor Glory my ante post favourite.

As for Fils D’Oudairies, this Gordon Elliott-trained runner offers huge value as an each-way bet, as despite trailing behind Magnor Glory at Listowel, he has since rebounded to win the Anton O'Toole Hurdle at Leopardstown last month. Little Mixup is another solid each-way bet, as like Magnor Glory, he has prevailed in three of his last five chase outings and even managed to win the Spring Festival Trials at Naas Handicap Hurdle in February at an outside price of 22/1.

If you’re interested in placing nominal wagers on outside contenders, consider backing the durable Wajaaha or Captains Nephew. The latter doesn’t have huge pedigree over the hurdles, but his sole win the Derrygrath Maiden Hurdle in February came over a similar length to the RYBO Handicap Hurdle and in a genuinely competitive field. So, he’s more than capable of upsetting the odds this time around too!

🐎 My Prediction: Magnor Glory to Win!
