Group B of the 2022 Qatar World Cup will draw to a potentially thrilling conclusion on November 29th, with the standout clash being the all-British match between Wales and England.
This will also be the 35th match of the Qatar World Cup, which will commence at 10pm local time at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan.
Wales’ devastating defeat to Iran last time out means that they’ll have to beat England to have any chance of qualifying (they’ll also need Iran and the USA to draw their match). As for England, a win will see them top the group, while they’re guaranteed to qualify unless Wales are able to beat them by four clear goals or more.
So, there’s all to play for here, and England must be wary of a wounded Welsh side that has nothing to lose in their first WC campaign for 64 years.
Trying to predict the outcome of this match can be tricky, regardless if you're new or experienced. Our team analysis will help guide your FIFA World Cup Betting predictions.

🏠 Wales World Cup Preview
We’ll start with Wales, with the home nation currently ranked 19th in the world by FIFA and classed as the 12th best team within UEFA’s jurisdiction.
While this is lower than the country’s highest ranking of 8th in October 2015 (which preceded their run to the semi-finals of Euro 2016), it shows just how Wales have established themselves as a consistently competitive international side in recent times.
However, that iconic Euro 2016 side featured both Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey in peak form, with these two players appearing to be shadows of their best selves so far in Qatar. While Bale scored a late penalty to secure a fortunate 1-1 draw with the USA in Wales’ opening game, both players were anonymous against an inspired and industrious Iran side that could have won by more in Al Rayyan.
These two big game players will have to come once to the fore against England, or an otherwise modest Wales team will see their WC adventure end at the group stage.
📰 Latest Team Wales World Cup News
Tweets by FAWales✈️ England World Cup Preview
While the Three Lions arrived in Qatar as FIFA’s fifth-ranked side (and the third best in Europe behind Belgium and France), there’s no doubt that they kicked off their World Cup campaign under something of a cloud.
Although they qualified for the World Cup with consummate ease, they subsequently since endured their worst run of form since 1992, while suffering the ignominy of being relegated from UEFA Nations League A after failing to win in six matches (with this run including a 4-0 thrashing by Hungary at Molineux).
Manager Gareth Southgate and his charges managed to dispel some of the doubts by thrashing Iran 6-2 in England’s opening World Cup game, with Jude Bellingham betraying his inexperience by starring in a box-to-box midfielder role.
However, the Three Lions once again flattered to deceive during their subsequent 0-0 draw with the USA, in which their opponents seemed fitter, better organised and more likely to break the deadlock throughout. As a result, England have won just once in their last eight competitive games, and nobody seems sure of what to expect from the team against the Welsh.

Tweets by England🟨 Cameroon vs Serbia: Latest Injury News and Suspensions
Wales will bring in Leicester City’s Danny Ward in goal, with Wayne Hennessy serving a one-match suspension after being sent off for a reckless challenge outside of his areas late on against Iran.
This is likely to be the only enforced changed by manager Rob Page, but the metronomic midfielder Joe Allen could come into an ailing midfield that has lacked structure and shape through the tournament (although the Swansea City man’s poor clearance was partially to blame for Rouzbeh Chesemi opening goal for Iran).
Daniel James and Brennan Johnson may also be drafted into a more attacking side given Wales’ dire need for points, although we expect both Bale and Ramsey to keep their places in the starting 11. Target man Kiefer Moore should also retain his place, as he affords the Welsh a crucial focal point in attack.
As for England, they have an almost fully fit squad to choose from, although the match may have come too soon for James Maddison (who’s recovering from a knee injury) while Ben White could miss out with illness.
Instead, the challenge for Southgate is how to react to the disappointing performance against an admittedly inspired USA side last time out. Certainly, Phil Foden is in contention to replace Mason Mount after the Chelsea struggled against the States, while Jack Grealish could also start in place of Raheem Sterling in a bid to introduce more creativity into the side.
Southgate may also be keen to afford Kyle Walker some minutes now that the Manchester City defender is back from injury, as his experience and versatility could prove crucial later in the tournament.
🔑 Key Matchups
Not only do Wales need to win here, but we shouldn’t overlook the fact that this a Home Nations derby.
This means high levels of intensity and fierce individual battles being wagered all over the pitch, each of which will be crucial to the final result. Here are three to keep your eyes on:
Nico Williams vs Bukayo Saka
Although Bukayo Saka struggled to impose himself against the USA, he was superb against Iran and even managed to score two goals on his World Cup finals’ debut.
He’s likely to start again against the Welsh too, especially with Rob Page preferring a 3-5-2 formation that leaves considerable space in the left and right channels. Saka will be keen to exploit this from the right, with the Nottingham Forest and former Liverpool defender Nico Williams likely to be in his way.
Of course, Williams is a mobile and capable player who likes to get forward from left wingback, and he’ll take every opportunity to attack and isolate Kieran Tripper at the other end of the pitch.
The key will ultimately lie with the effectiveness of Saka’s pacy runs and dribbling skills, as the ability of England’s wingers to drive Wales’ wingbacks towards their own goal will have a key bearing on the outcome of the game.
Joe Rodon vs Harry Kane
Joe Rodon will line up at the heart of Wales’ three-man defence, where he’ll be tasked with marking England’s captain and talisman Harry Kane.
However, Rodon will find this a unique challenge, and not only because of Kane’s record of 51 international goals in 77 appearances. In fact, Kane hasn’t actually scored a goal from open play in England in 2022 to date, although he already has two assists to his name in Qatar.
This betrays Kane’s increasing desire to drop deep into the midfield and link play, creating space for his inverted wingers and midfielder runners before delivering high quality balls and assists in the final third. So, the challenge for Rodon will be gauging how far to track Kane into midfield, while he’ll also be alert and tight to his man when the predatory Kane drifts into forward areas.
Make no mistake; Rodon will need to be focused and committed for the whole 90 minutes, while the Welsh midfield must also provide more defensive cover and support than they done during other tournament matches.
Kiefer Moore vs Harry McGuire
Manchester United fans must think that England’s Harry Maguire is a different player to the one on their books, as the defender becomes a towering and authoritative force of nature whenever he puts on the Three Lions’ shirt.
He was man of the match against the USA (from an admittedly underwhelming pool of candidates), while he’ll certainly have his hands full against Wales’ powerful striker Kiefer Moore in Al Rayyan.
The Welsh toiled against the USA without Moore in the first half, and while he was unable to score or help secure a result against Iran, his hold-up play, aerial threat and sheer presence mean that he’ll be a key weapon against the English.
Both players will look to dominate in the air, while Maguire will look to stay tight to Moore when the ball is played into the striker’s feet. However, the Wales forward will probably look to drift towards the shorter John Stones where he can, and Maguire must be watchful of this throughout the game.
⚡ Wales vs England – The Head-to-Head Statistics
While England and Wales have never met at the FIFA World Cup finals (although they have played each other in qualifiers), they played a staggering 103 games since January 18th, 1879.
However, there have been only six meeting between the two since the turn of the century, while the first clash of the noughties (a 2-0 win for England in FIFA WC qualifying) following a 20-year hiatus after the Home Nations Championship was abolished at the end of the 1983/84 season.
England have dominated these encounters overall, winning 68 and drawing 21 in total while losing just 14. England’s last competitive defeat to Wales came in the final British Home Championship clash in May 1984, so Rob Page’s men will also be fighting the weight of history on Tuesday.
The last competitive meeting between the two came in Euro 2016, when the two met in the second round of group stage games. Here, Gareth Bale fired the Welsh into a first-half lead, before Jamie Vardy equalised in the second half and then-Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge tucked home a late winner in the second minute of stoppage time.
🥇 Wales vs England Prediction - Who Will Win?
While the Three Lions may boast superior individual quality, every match contested between Wales and England is incredibly competitive, with the aforementioned group stage clash in Euro 2016 (which England won thanks to a late Daniel Sturridge goal) offering a relevant case in point.
What’s more, Wales’ pride has been hurt during a challenging WC campaign so far, while Rob Page’s men will kick-off knowing that nothing but a win will keep the nations’ slim hopes of qualifying for the round of 16 alive.
Don’t forget, Wales still possess star quality in the form of their talisman Gareth Bale, who can turn a game or score a world class goal in a matter of seconds if he’s afforded time and space.
So, although we ultimately see a strong England side edging this encounter by the odd goal, Wales will give their all and push their home nations rivals all the way!

🔍 Our Wales vs England Betting Tips?
While we expect an England win, the nature of this contest and the recent experience of the Wales side at the highest level should ensure a close encounter.
So, match betting may not offer a great deal of value given the real-time odds (unless you fancy an outside flutter on Wales at a price of 8.00 with BoyleSports), especially with handicap wagering not necessarily appropriate in the circumstances.
However, we do think there’s value in backing both sides to score in Qatar, particularly with players like Bale and Ramsey posing a potent goal threat for as long as they’re on the pitch.
As a result, you may also want to consider betting on there being over 2.5 goals scored in the match. You can get on this at a price of 2.00 with BetVictor, with this offering considerable value when you consider the forward players included in both squads and the keenly contested nature of the match.
Wales vs England Betting Tip 1: As a result, you may also want to consider betting on there being over 2.5 goals scored in the match. You can get on this at a price of 1.99 with TonyBet, with this offering considerable value when you consider the forward players included in both squads.
