The Group Stage of the 2022 Qatar World Cup has been and gone, and it is safe to say that some teams have really underperformed on the world stage such as Denmark, Germany, and Belgium. While a team could perform badly in one match of the Group Stage and still make it through, any further slip ups from now on in will result in a sad journey home. The fourth game of the Round of 16 sees Group B winners, England, take on Group A runners-up, Senegal, at the Al Bayt Stadium on the 4th of December. This match kicks off at 19:00 GMT so make sure that you take a not of this time and date so you can do some FIFA World Cup betting, if you wish. Below you can see my prediction on who will go on to win this match and book themselves a spot in the Quarter-Finals.
💯 England vs Senegal Betting Odds
If you want to watch all of the action, then you can do so by tuning into ITV 1. It is fair to say that England fans probably wanted this match to be shown on BBC 1 because, as Gary Lineker pointed out, England's performances while being shown on ITV 1 have been pretty sub-standard. Okay, obviously this should not make much of a difference, but I just thought that I would point this out to you - maybe you are a kind of superstitious person, too.

🏠 England Preview
England finished at the top of Group B courtesy of two wins and a draw from their three group matches. After thrashing Iran 6-2 in their opening match of the competition, they picked up a pretty dour draw thrashing Iran, which meant that they entered the final group game match safe in the knowledge that a draw against a pretty poor Welsh team would be enough to send them through, while a win would see them top the group. England went on to win the match 3-0 and never looked in any danger of losing, booking themselves a date with Senegal in the Round of 16.
England scored a total of 9 goals in the Group Stage, which is the most that they have ever managed to score at a World Cup in the Group Stage. What is unbelievable is the fact that Harry Kane has not found the back of the net once - if you had bet on England to score 9 goals in the Group Stage and Kane not to be one of the scorers, then you would have made a pretty penny, that is for sure.

Senegal, the African champions, finish in second place in Group B behind the Dutch. Their first game of the tournament was against the Netherlands, and although they battled really hard, two late goals due to some uncharacteristic errors from Mendy saw them lose the match. This meant that they had to win their second game to stay in contention at the tournament, and they put in a solid display to dispatch Qatar 3-1. Therefore, entering their final game of the competition, Senegal knew that anything other than a win against Ecuador would send them crashing out. They put in their best performance of the tournament to date, sending a young and talented Ecuador team home.

Tweets by FootballSenegal🟨 The Latest Injury News and Suspensions
For this Round of 16 game, Gareth Southgate, the England manager, does not have injuries or suspensions that he needs to contend with, which will be music to his ears. However, there has been a bit of debate as to whether Kane is fit enough to play because he has been sporting an ankle injury. Even if he does have a bit of an ankle injury, it is highly likely that Southgate will start him because he is one of England's better players. They have no players on yellow cards who are in danger of missing the Quarter-Final, should they pick up a booking in this Round of 16 game. To have played three group games and not have picked up a single yellow card is pretty impressive.
Senegal's manager, Aliou Cissé, on the other hand, will have to make one change to his starting XI for this game against England because Idrissa Gueye picked up two yellow cards in the group stage and is suspended for this match. Senegal also have N. Mendy, I Jakons, and B. Dia on a yellow card, so if these were to be booked against England, they would miss their quarter-final clash, should they go on to qualify. At least, with regard to injuries, Cissé does not have any of his key players missing for this clash.
🏆 Key Matchups
Each game has its key matchups that will determine the outcome and who progresses to the next round, and in this part of this prediction, we will look at some key matchups for the England vs Senegal game.
Harry Kane vs Kalidou Koulibaly
Kane, despite the fact that he seems to have a slight ankle issue, will play in this match, and Koulibaly will be the man tasked with keeping him quiet. Kane has not scored at this World Cup, but even when he is not finding the back of the net, he is setting up his teammates, as can be seen from the three assists that he has so far. Koulibaly, who is one of the best defenders that Senegal has ever produced, will know that Kane can score from just half an opportunity, so he will try to mark him out of the game. Whoever comes out on top in this battle will probably have a big say as to which team progresses to the Quarter-Finals.
Ismaïla Sarr vs Luke Shaw
Senegal has plenty of talent in their squad, and Watford's Sarr happens to be one of their most talented players. His pace, skill, and strength causes issues for even the best of defenders, so Manchester United's Luke Shaw will know that he is going to have his hands full this Sunday. If Shaw plays at the top of his game, then Sarr can be kept quiet, which will go a long way to deciding who wins this game. Sarr is not keen on doing his defensive duties, so there could be plenty of space for Shaw to run into and provide some pin-point crosses.
Jude Bellingham vs Nampalys Mendy
It is safe to say that Bellingham has a huge career ahead of him, and England will be looking towards his skills and competitiveness in the midfield to help them qualify for the quarter-finals on Sunday evening. When Bellingham plays at the top of his game, it is a great sight to watch. The man that will be tasked with stopping Bellingham from pulling the strings in the middle of the pitch is Leicester's Mendy, and we will be keeping a close eye on that battle to see whether the defensive midfielder or the attacking midfielder comes out on top.
🥇 England vs Senegal Prediction - Who Will Win?
When predicting a winner for this match, many will tell you that it should be a comfortable win for England. However, ask any English fan, and they will tell you that England do not do comfortable. This Senegal team is full of talent, and we do not think that the odds represent the probable outcome, since they suggest that it will be an easy win for England. If England do go on to win, it will only be by a solitary goal, but we do think they will do just enough to sneak over the line. However, do not be too surprised if Senegal march on to the Quarter-Finals.
