West Ham’s stunning 2-0 victory at Arsenal on December 28th saw manager David Moyes earn his first ever away win against a ‘big four’ club, at the 73rd attempt too! However, completing a double over the Gunners may prove difficult, with Mikel Arteta’s men on a run of three consecutive Premier League wins and on a high after defeating Liverpool 3-1 last time out. While the Hammers are winless in four, however, they’ve only lost once in their last eight league games and remain enduringly tough to break down. But can they withstand Arsenal, or will the Gunners continue their assault on the Premier League summit?
🏆 West Ham vs Arsenal EPL Prediction
The Hammers are looking to complete their first league double over Arsenal since 2006-07, although it should be noted that they’ve already beaten the Gunners twice this season (including a 3-1 League Cup victory in November). Previously, West Ham had won just once in 16 matches against Arsenal in all competitions, since a 2-0 victory at the Emirates in August 2015.
Of course, West Ham’s success against Arsenal has been built on defensive strength, with only three teams winning more tackles than the Hammers’ tally of 266 this season. They also average just 41.4% possession per 90 minutes in the Premier League, and will be happy to let the Gunners have the ball while seeking out opportunities to hit them on the counterattack.
The issue is that this strategy could play into Arsenal’s hands. Even during West Ham’s 2-0 win at the Emirates in December, the Gunners recorded 30 shots on goal and an xG of 2.73, and it was only wasteful finishing that cost Arteta’s men over the 90 minutes. They’re unlikely to be as profligate this time around, especially having rediscovered their shooting boots and struck 10 goals in their last three matches.
Wingers Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka have also rediscovered their cutting edge in recent weeks, contributing five goals and one assist between them in Arsenal’s last three league games. With Gabriel Jesus also expected to return from a niggling knee injury, I’m tipping the Gunners to continue their good run of form and record a comfortable win in East London.
My Prediction: 🏆 West Ham 0 – 2 Arsenal ⚽

✔️ West Ham vs Arsenal - Betting Tips
The Gunners are the heavy betting favourites to defeat West Ham, so there’s little value in backing the away side to win outright. But what alternative markets offer value, and how can you navigate these successfully?
- Tip 1: Back Both Teams Not to Score: While West Ham have already scored five times in their two matches against Arsenal this season, the side looked desperately short of cutting edge in their recent 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford. In fact, they’ve only scored three goals in their last four EPL games, while they only average 20.65 shot-creating actions per 90 in this season’s Premier League. They’re sorely missing Michail Antonio and creative fulcrum Lucas Paquetá too, and may struggle to get hold of the ball against the Gunners. So, get on both teams not to score at a price of 2.09 with Betiton.
- Tip 2: Back Arsenal to Win with a Handicap of -1.5 Goals: While the Gunners have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five away games, they retain the joint-best defensive record in the league having conceded just 22 goals. They’re virtually at full strength defensively too, while the fact that both Martinelli and Saka are hitting top form will afford them a valuable cutting edge in the attacking third of the pitch. So, there may be some value in backing Arsenal to win with a small handicap of -1.5 goals at a price of 2.38 with LegendPlay Sports.
- Tip 3: Back Leandro Trossard as an Anytime Goalscorer: If you have one or more free bets on your account, you could consider backing Leandro Trossard as an anytime goalscorer. Despite not being a regular starter, he averages a goal or assist every 99 minutes for the Gunners in the EPL, contributing six goals and 11 assists in just 1,684 minutes. Only Thierry Henry and Robin Van Persie have bettered this in Premier League history, while the Belgian scored in the win over Liverpool last time out. You can get on Trossard to find the net here at a price of 3.60 with 1Bet Sports.
1️⃣ West Ham Update
The Hammers form has been somewhat mixed of late, as while they’ve lost just one of their last eight Premier League games, they’re also winless in their last four since defeating the Gunners at the Emirates on December 28th. They haven’t won in six games across all competitions, with this sequence including a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Championship side Bristol City in an FA Cup third round replay. They’ve only scored five goals in these six matches too, with this lack of end product coinciding with the absence of the brilliant Brazilian midfielder Paquetá. He’s not scheduled to return until March either.

Bristol City 1 West Ham 0 | 16.01.24 FA Cup |

The loss of Lucas Paquetá has served a huge blow to West Ham and their attacking output, while he’s not expected to recover from a calf injury until the first week in March. Michail Antonio remains a long-term absentee too, as he continues his own recovery from a serious knee injury. However, the Hammers recently welcomed back both Nayef Aguerd and Mohammed Kudus after their exploits at the African Cup of Nations, although neither was able to prevent a disappointing 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford last time out.

2️⃣ Arsenal Update
Arsenal were superb in their 3-1 win over Liverpool last time out, playing with intensity and aggression from the outset as they recorded a third successive EPL victory. Interestingly, the Gunners have lost three of their previous seven EPL away games, although they arrested a three-game winless streak on the road by defeating Nottingham Forest 2-1 on January 30th. As I’ve touched on, both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli have returned to goal scoring form since the turn of the year, while skipper Martin Ødegaard is averaging 6.09 shot-creating actions per 90 in the league. Only James Maddison (7.95) has produced more, and the Norwegian is continuing to have a huge impact in the attacking third.

Gabriel Jesus should be fit to return to the matchday squad this weekend, after missing the visit of Liverpool due to a recurring knee injury. Versatile defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is also in contention to start after returning from international duty in the AFC Asia Cup, although Oleksandr Zinchenko could miss out after a recurrence of his calf injury against Liverpool. Fabio Viera (groin surgery) and Thomas Partey (hamstring) remain unavailable, while Jurien Timber is out for a little longer as he completes his recovery from a cruciate ligament tear.
