Keep or Sell: Manchester United’s Summer Transfer Options

The 2024/25 season has been a disaster for Manchester United, with the prospect of winning the Europa League and qualifying for the 2025/26 Champions League the only potential saving grace. A summer of upheaval and change is needed at Old Trafford, so let’s look at the players United should either Sell or Keep ahead of next season.

Sell or Keep

  • Andre Onana – Sell

Unfortunately, there have been too many moments of instability and weakness for Onana to be the long-term no.1 for Manchester United.

  • Altay Bayindir – Sell

The former Fenerbahce goalKeeper has barely featured since joining in 2023, but he did save 2 penalties to knock Arsenal out of the FA Cup this season.

  • Diogo Dalot – Keep

Dalot was very good under ten Hag but has taken a while to produce for his fellow countryman, Amorim.

  • Noussair Mazraoui – Keep

Like Dalot, well worth Keeping for his solid debut Premier League season. Offers flexibility also with his ability to play as one of the 3 centre-halves.

  • Harry Maguire – Keep

Maguire would have been a Sell for much of the season, but the England international has shown his worth in the club’s Europa League run.

  • Leny Yoro – Keep

The young Frenchman, signed for big money from Lille in 2024, has really grown into his role in Amorim’s back 3 and looks set for a long future in United’s defence.

  • Matthijs de Ligt – Keep

The Dutch international has won titles in the Eredivisie, Serie A and the Bundesliga and has looked good in his first season at United.

  • Victor Lindelof – Sell

The Swede’s contract is up at the end of the season, so he may be bidding farewell after 8 years at the club.

  • Ayden Heaven – Keep

The defender joined from Arsenal mid-season and made 5 appearances. Heaven looks like a good prospect for the club.

  • Lisandro Martinez – Keep

Martinez is crucial to Amorim’s strategy for playing out from the back. He had found some form before his knee injury and will be important next season for United.

  • Luke Shaw – Keep

Another player at the club with serious injury issues. If United can get Shaw fit for a prolonged period, he can be a valuable squad member with his ability at wing back and as a left-sided centre half.

  • Tyrell Malacia – Sell

Malacia has never really looked likely to become a first-team regular at United and will probably be on his way back to the Eredivisie.

  • Patrick Dorgu – Keep

Signed in January from Lecce, the Danish international has made the left wing-back slot his own. United fans will hope he kicks on next season and becomes a real mainstay of the team in what is a crucial position in Ruben Amorim’s system.

  • Kobbie Mainoo – Keep

Mainoo has had an injury-interrupted 2024/25 season but surely remains a highly rated midfield prospect for Amorim.

The star of this United squad, Bruno has been one of the shining lights in what has been a dark season for United.

  • Casemiro – Sell

Another experienced player who has shown his worth as the club chases down the Europa League. Despite this, the club will surely look to offload the 5-time Champions League winner.

  • Manuel Ugarte – Keep

Ugarte has played for Amorim at Sporting but has so far only shown his undoubted ability in fleeting moments. Will need to vastly improve next season to be one of Amorim’s midfield 2.

  • Bruno Fernandes – Keep

The star of this United squad, Bruno has been one of the shining lights in what has been a dark season for United. He deserves to have better players around him, and if they win the Europa League, that might start happening.

  • Mason Mount – Keep

Another who has been beset by injuries since he joined. He has recently looked fit and ready to assume one of the No. 10 roles in Amorim’s system.

  • Christian Eriksen – Sell

The Danish international’s contract is up, and he is expected to leave for free after 106 appearances for the club.

  • Amad Diallo – Keep

Another star since Amorim took over, Amad looks tailor-made for the right-hand side of United’s attack for many years to come and seems to have the faith of the manager.

  • Alejandro Garnacho – Sell

The 20-year-old is just too inconsistent to be worthy of his place in a United side looking to develop under Ruben Amorim. He is an academy graduate, so Selling him may be an attractive proposition for the club, given their PSR issues.

  • Jadon Sancho – Sell

Sancho has proven to be a waste of money for the club since his £73 million move from Dortmund. He is on loan to Chelsea, with a £25 million obligation to buy, a conclusion that may suit all parties.

  • Antony – Sell

The Brazilian has made an impact for Betis since his loan move, hitting 8 goals and 5 assists. That form might see some interest in the summer as United look to raise funds.

  • Marcus Rashford – Sell

Another player who is almost certain to leave Old Trafford. Rashford has spent the 2nd half of the season on loan at Aston Villa, and it would certainly be the most logical outcome for the England international to look for pastures new in the summer.

  • Joshua Zirkzee – Keep

With United apparently after a couple of forwards in the window, one of Zirkzee or Hojlund will probably leave Old Trafford. Zirkzee offers more flexibility, so he gets the nod to remain.

  • Rasmus Hojlund – Sell

The Danish striker has failed to handle being United’s main No. 9 during his time at the club. He maintains interest from Serie A clubs, so he may end up back in Italy by the end of the summer window.
