Wimbledon is the biggest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world. It is one of the four Grand Slam titles played annually and every year, it attracts thousands through the gates of the historic All England Club, as well as millions worldwide who will watch the action unfold on their TVs. Wimbledon attracts a large following in Ireland because, for punters, there are a lot of tennis bets to place.

The 2024 edition of the tournament begins on July 1st with the final taking place on July 14th. In this guide to the 2024 Men’s singles, I will provide you with some tips on who I believe will be crowned champion at the end of the championship and answer some frequently asked questions about Wimbledon 2024.

🎾 2024 Wimbledon Men's Predictions & Odds

128 of the best players in the world will enter the first round at SW19, meaning the first round consists of sixty-four matches, giving punters plenty of betting opportunities.

Below, I am going to list the top four players who will be competing for the men’s title at Wimbledon 2024. For betting purposes, I will also include the betting odds of each of the four players with some of the best-known bookmakers offering odds on Wimbledon this year.

1️⃣Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic is a seven-time Wimbledon champion, but there are question marks surrounding the legendary Serbian this year as he had to withdraw from his French Open quarter-final and had knee surgery just five weeks ago. He will thrive on people writing him off as a potential winner. Even though he has had a lean 2024 so far, it would be no shock at all to see him lift the Wimbledon trophy on July 14th for the eighth time, which would mean a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title.

2️⃣ Carlos Alcaraz

Alcaraz will head into this year’s Wimbledon full of confidence after claiming his third Grand Slam title by the age of 21 at this year’s French Open at Roland Garros. He is the defending Wimbledon champion having defeated Djokovic in a monumental battle on Centre Court in 2023. His devastating groundstrokes and supreme movement and speed around the court mean he really is a complete player, and fans can look forward to him being a mainstay of Wimbledon for many years to come.

3️⃣ Jannik Sinner

The new world number 1 and the first player from Italy to achieve such a feat, Sinner has had a great 2024 so far. He won the Australian Open at the beginning of the year, defeating Daniil Medvedev from two sets down, and has added a further three titles since, including the Wimbledon warm-up event at Halle. After their meeting at the French Open, fans all over the tennis world would have been hoping Sinner and Alcaraz would have been drawn to meet in a Wimbledon final, which would have cemented their rivalry as the next big one in men’s tennis. Unfortunately, they have been put on the same side of the draw and are now due to meet in the semi-final, if they both get that far.

4️⃣ Alexander Zverev

Zverev has really looked back to his best over the last couple of months after fully recovering from that horrific injury he suffered at the French Open in 2022. He reached his second Grand Slam final, his first in four years, at the French Open last month, pushing Alcaraz all the way before losing in five sets. His record at Wimbledon is nothing to write home about (he’s never made it past the fourth round), but if he can become more aggressive with his forehand on the grass, he could trouble anyone. For one thing, his two-handed backhand is as good as they come and his serve is a serious weapon, especially on grass.

📊 Wimbledon Winners

Before you bet on the winner of this year’s Wimbledon, it might be important to know which players have been successful at the tournament in the past, either winning it or making it all the way through to the final. Some players are just known to play some of their best tennis at Wimbledon, such as Djokovic and Alcaraz, the defending champion. To find out some of the most recent players to have won the title and been runners-up, check out the table below which might help you decide who you think might play well at Wimbledon this year.

🏆 Wimbledon Prediction

The bookies may fancy the two new superstars of the men’s game, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, to emerge victorious after this year’s championship, but I can’t look past Novak Djokovic.

Sure, Djokovic just had surgery five weeks ago, but you would be a fool to write off the seven-time champion around the grass courts of Wimbledon. Before he had to pull out of the French Open, he was starting to look like he might go on and win a fourth Roland Garros title, so I’m backing the 24-time Grand Slam champion to pick up number 25 on July 14th.

My Wimbledon Prediction: Novak Djokovic to win.

⭐ Wimbledon Betting Tips

So, if Novak Djokovic doesn’t win Wimbledon, who else can cause an upset at this year’s championship? Below, I am going to give you some of my outside bets to do well at Wimbledon this year - players to keep in mind before placing your bet on this year’s tournament.

Remember to always gamble responsibly whenever you are betting on Wimbledon or any other sporting event.

Who is My Dark Horse?

There are undoubtedly players in this year’s draw that have the potential to upset any of the big three and take them out. Players such as Daniil Medvedev, Alex De Minaur, Alexander Zverev, and Cam Norrie are all capable of beating the likes of Djokovic, Alcaraz, and Sinner, should their paths cross at any stage during the tournament.

Top Tip 1: Medvedev is my dark horse: It’s strange to ever be called a player with the pedigree that Medvedev has in the game a dark horse for any tournament, but that is what he is at Wimbledon this year. With the bookies, he is viewed as an outsider to add to his solitary Grand Slam, the 2021 U.S. Open at Wimbledon. Such is the level of competition he might face if he takes on Sinner, Djokovic, or Alcaraz. I don’t think grass will ever be his favourite surface, but he did make the semi-finals in 2023, so he does have what it takes to make it through to the latter stages of the tournament.

Each-Way Betting

If you are unsure who to bet on for this year’s championships, or you think the player you like might have a deep run without quite getting over the line should he make it to the final, then an each-way bet might be your best option. With this bet type, you are effectively betting twice. You are betting on your player to win the tournament, but if he makes it through to the final and comes up against one of the well-fancied players, or has a difficult day at the office, you will still get a return on your each-way bet.

Top Tip 2: Zverev is a good each-way bet choice: The German has been in good form over the last couple of months, winning the Rome Masters event and reaching the French Open Final but losing to Carlos Alcaraz in five sets. His lack of form in Wimbledon should end someday, so why not this year? He has one of the best backhands on the men’s tour and when his serve is firing, it can be a potent weapon against anybody, especially on grass. If he can get his movement on the grass sorted and can start being more aggressive with his forehand, Zverev’s tag as being the best player on tour without a Slam may come to an end very soon.

Who to Avoid Having a Bet On

There is always that player, isn’t there? A player who attracts so much attention and has so many supporters who back him, but who never performs. For me, that player at Wimbledon is Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Top Tip 3: Avoid Stefanos Tsitsipas: The Greek is someone who flatters to deceive on a consistent basis. There is unquestionably talent there, as his French Open performance in 2021 and Australian Open Runner-Up performance in 2023 will suggest, but when it comes to Wimbledon, he has no record to speak of, only reaching the fourth round on two occasions. His form in 2024 has been patchy at best, winning the Monte Carlo Masters but not doing much else. My advice would be to leave the Greek player off any list you might have of potential bets at this year’s Wimbledon.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions About Wimbledon

What Are the Best Sites for Betting on Wimbledon 2024?

Even though Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are the coming forces in men’s tennis, I fancy Novak Djokovic to win this year’s championship.

Roger Federer is the most successful player in Wimbledon history, winning the title eight times. Of those players active on the tour today, Novak Djokovic has the most titles on the grass courts of SW19, winning the championships seven times.
