We are rushing into week four of the 2023 Six Nations championship, with Murrayfield treating us to this year's test for the Centenary Quaich on the 12th of March. Kick-off will be at 3 p.m. GMT.
I am expecting quite the brawl for this one. In their history of 139 matches, Scotland have claimed 66 wins; Ireland, 68 wins, and there have been five tied matches. You also have to consider that Scotland and Ireland are respectively this year's number-two and number-one teams in the tournament thus far. With the bonus of the Gaelic trophy all to play for, both sides will be giving it all they have to scratch another victory onto their scorecard. In previous weeks, I have chosen Ireland to win 100% of games, and they haven’t let me down, but anything could happen in the penultimate round of the Six Nations 2023.

Scotland did not have the best time last year, only managing to win two matches whilst losing three, and failing to finish in the top half of the standings. Based on last year's performances, it is hard to see Scotland putting up much of good fight in this year's test.

In week one against England, the travelling Scots were able to put the auld enemy to the sword, leaving the home side stunned at the 23-29 scoreboard at Twickenham. It was an excellent win and a lesson that the Men in White and Red will no time soon forget. The second week saw Scotland take on Wales. Welsh rugby fans were expecting the match to be a close encounter, but points-scoring seemed to be an alien concept as they succumbed to a hiding of 35-7. With two wins in the bag, confidence was running high, but the Scots tumbled back down to Earth against France, taking a 32-21 beating and having to accept their first loss of the tournament.
This has been a good Six Nations for Scotland, but are they able to make a good game out of their match against the Men in Green? Two strong victories say yes, but a defeat to France suggests that they are only human. We'll have to dig deeper into Ireland's recent form to see if they will grab the big W.

This is going to be one hell of a clash on Sunday, and both teams are going to need to field their best players if they have any hope of keeping things a close game. Ireland are on track for the Grand Slam, whilst Scotland have the chance of claiming the Triple Crown. Ireland are going to play this game tight, utilising their power in the set piece and through the rucks. Scotland will want to play free flowing rugby that lets loose the flamboyant Finn Russell. The two different styles of play will encourage a titanic struggle and a great physical contest. Potential yellow and red cards are going to be a main contributor to who is the eventual winner: the team that can compose themselves, stick to their game plan, and keep players on the pitch will win.
