The Epsom Derby Festival takes place each year and there are two big races that Irish horse racing punters pay attention to when this festival rolls around. The one that I am going to be focusing on in this sports betting guide is the Epsom Oaks, which is scheduled to take place on the 31st of May at 16:30 GMT. Which horse will be victorious in this Group 1 race that takes place at Epsom Downs? Well, keep on reading, and the answer to this question, and more, will be revealed.

🏇 Epsom Oaks 2024 Betting Preview

The Oaks Stake is only open to fillies that are three years of age, meaning that it is not one of those races that horses can enter and win time and time again - it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to win. Like the Epsom Derby, it is a flat race, which means that there are no fences that the Epsom Oaks runners need to overcome when making their way to the finish line. This race is one of the five British Classics and is a total of 1 1/2 miles long, which means that it is over in a little over 2.5 minutes.

The first Epsom Oaks was raced in 1779, and it was won by Bridget who was ridden by Dick Goodisson. The 2023 edition of this race was won by Soul Sister, who was ridden by the legendary jockey, Frankie Dettori, and was trained by John and Thady Gosden. Below I am going to take a look at three horses that I feel have a really good shout of joining previous Epsom Oaks winners as well as provide you with the top Epsom Oaks odds that four quality bookies are currently offering.

Ylang Ylang

From her previous six starts, Ylang Ylang has won three of them and is the only filly in the line-up that has won a Group 1 race - she was successful in the Bet365 Fillies' Mile at Newmarket towards the end of last year. Despite being a bit impeded a furlong from the finish line, she brushed it off and went on to claim first place.

She finished fifth in the recent 1,000 Guineas, which was an eye-catching run as she managed to land some late gains from the back of the field. Horses that have been trained by Aidan O'Brien usually need some runs before they hit their peak, and Ylang Ylang is at this stage. She should be able to cope with the undulating Epsom track and is the one to beat.

Dermot Weld, the trainer of Ezeliya, definitely knows what it takes to land a British Classic, and his only representative in this race was really impressive when she beat Purple Lily in April at Navan. Although she would need to land a personal best in order to go on and win this race, I think she has what it takes to compete, especially when taking into consideration her strong finishes in her three previous starts.

She is a Group 1 filly winner in the making, and there is a lot to like about her current profile. She will have to up her game to beat Ylang Ylang, but this is definitely something that she has the ability to do. I am looking forward to watching her race on Friday afternoon.

Rubies Are Red

Rubies Are Red is Ylang Ylang's stable companion, and she has shown progress in each race that she has participated in - she has started in three races, and placed in all three of them. She finished third on her debut and in second place at Leopardstown and Lingfield, which was the Oaks Trial.

To be honest, she did race a little further back than was ideal, but she did well to make up the ground over the last couple of furlongs to lose by just half a length in the end. This is a huge step up in class though, and she does not have the same natural quality that previous winners have had. However, if the two horses above have an off day, there is every chance that she could pounce and pick up her first win.

N.B. If you would like to find out more about Unibet, BoyleSports, LeoVegas, and Spreadex Sports before you opt to sign up with them, then you can head over to our bookmaker review section and find all the information that you could possibly need.

📊 Epsom Oaks Winners

When you are putting down bets on big horse races, which the Epsom Oaks can definitely be classified as, you should always check out who has won it in previous years as past success and experience should never be willingly overlooked. Now, I know that fillies can only enter this race once as it is restricted to three-year-olds, but you can still check out which trainers and jockeys have had plenty of success. Thus, below you can find the last eight winners of the Epsom Oaks and their jockeys and trainers:

🏆 Epsom Oaks Prediction

This is another hard race to predict as there is plenty of quality on display - if one horse has a little bit of an off day, another will be there to swoop in and claim the huge first prize that is on offer. When you are making your Epsom Oaks predictions, you might be tempted to just slap your money on the favourite, but I think there is little value to be had in backing Ylang Ylang. For me, my 2024 Epsom Oaks winner is Ezeliya.

She can keep up with Aidan O'Brien's favourites, but the advantage that she has over them is her strong finishing kick, which should enter the equation when the race heats up towards the end. She was impressive in her previous two starts, and I can see her having another very good race on Friday afternoon.

My 2024 Epsom Derby Prediction: Ezeliya to win.

⭐ Epsom Oaks Betting Tips

Now that you know who I would back when it comes to a spot of Betfred Epsom Oaks betting, I am going to go ahead and provide you with some Epsom Oaks bet tips that you should keep firmly in mind if you decide to place a bet on this big race.

Form is Key

Before you go and make use of any Epsom Oaks betting odds, you should check out the kind of form that they are in. You would not put money on a tennis player or football team to win if they are out of form, so it stands to reason that you would not bet on a horse that has been running poorly. See how they have been running in recent events and whether they have performed poorly at the racecourse in the past. If you have any doubts about their form, put your money elsewhere.

The Jockey is Important Too

Check out who is going to be on the back of a horse in a big race as the jockey plays a big part in any success that a horse will have. A horse that is being ridden by an experienced and successful jockey is one that will have a better chance of success since the jockey understands what is needed to come out on top when the pressure is on. In recent years, Ryan Moore has been the jockey to look out for, winning three of the last eight editions.

Do Not Forget the Trainer

Always check out the trainer as well since a horse that has been trained by a top trainer will have a higher chance of landing some success when compared to a horse that is trained by someone of a lower pedigree. Aidan O'Brien is definitely the trainer to look out for when it comes to the Epsom Oaks as his horses have won five of the last eight editions of this big race.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions About the Epsom Oaks

What Are the Best Betting Sites for the 2024 Epsom Oaks?

Who Will Win the 2024 Epsom Oaks?

Ylang Ylang is the favourite to go on and win the 2024 Epsom Oaks, but I think she is a bit vulnerable at the moment and her odds of winning are too short. For me, I think Ezeliya is the value bet for this race.
